Writing has always been something near and dear to my heart. Well, not always. It started when I was in High School and progressed from there. The funny thing is that I never enjoyed writing in High School - in fact, I hated it with every fiber of my being.

My love for writing began when I started reading. To me, reading is at the heart of being a good writer. When you read, something changes in your brain. I recall hearing that there have been studies - I'm writing this without citing sources, so take this with a grain of salt - that reading books actually changes your brain chemistry. 

There is something about words - and it doesn't matter if they're physically written on a page or even digitally presented to you - that changes the way your brain thinks. 

I've found reading and writing to making me a clearer thinker, a better speaker and a better business operator. 

## How to Become a Better Writer: Get Through the Bad Writing

There are 2 major pieces of advice I would give to anyone who wanted to become a better writer: 
1. I would start reading more books
2. Get through the bad writing

The 1st is a bit easier. It's the simple discipline of sitting down with a book and reading. Just find something that is interesting to you. It doesn't have to be nonfiction... It can even be a fiction book. Like I said, the act of reading words on a page is enough to change your brain's chemistry. After you read, I bet you 100 HIVE that you'll be a better writer without even trying!

The second piece of advice is one I heard from Seth Godin. If you want to write more and write more good things, then you need to write bad things.

He calls it "getting through the bad writing".

Think of it like a basketball player. Does a basketball player hit their shot 100% of the time?

No!

They may hit 80% of the time - and that would be absolutely incredible. BUT that means that they had to shoot 20 bad shots to hit 80 good shots.

Why do we think of writing any differently? **You need to shoot 20 bad shots to hit 80 good shots**. Focus on writing more - no matter the quality output - and you will become a better writer. I guarantee that if you write 10 articles, at least 1 of them will stick out from the others.
