Exactly one year ago now was probably one of the darkest nights in my life. My dear dog, who had been sick for a long time before, had to leave us forever after 13 years together. It was the weekend, the middle of the night and no one was available to help her pass away. So we had nothing left but to be by her side until she finally fell asleep in our arms forever. And she was so brave until her last breath.

And so I lit a candle this evening in memory of her. Although a whole year has passed, she is still very much missed. We have two other dogs here in the house, but that is still something different than having your own four-legged soul mate by your side.

I had actually planned for a long time to post a memory post with all the great photos from our time together, but it hasn't felt coherent yet. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow, or sometime, or never. I don't know.

But that's life, I don't need to tell you anything new. The most important just is to simply enjoy and appreciate the time you have together. Not to lose yourself in everyday quarrels, but to look at the essentials. Family, friends, pets, nature and the gift of life.

They say time heals all wounds and yes, that may be true. But sometimes scars remain, don't they? I have already "lost" many people and animals ... to death or to life with all its changes. The question of whether they are really gone or still there in some form will probably never be able to finally clarify. Personally, however, I like the idea of a friendly universe in which nothing is ever lost but only continues to exist in another form very well.

And as if to prove my theory, the camera produced an interesting result when photographing the candle:

Genau jetzt vor einem Jahr war wohl eine der dunkelsten Nächte in meinem Leben. Meine liebe Hündin, die vorher schon lange krank war, musste uns nach 13 gemeinsamen Jahren für immer verlassen. Es war Wochenende, mitten in der Nacht und niemand erreichbar, um sie zu erlösen. Also blieb uns nichts weiter, als an ihrer Seite zu sein, bis sie schließlich in unseren Armen für immer eingeschlafen ist. Und sie war so tapfer und so unglaublich brav bis zu ihrem letzten Atemzug.

Und so habe ich vorhin in Gedenken an sie eine Kerze angezündet. Obwohl schon ein ganzes Jahr vergangen ist fehlt sie immer noch sehr. Wir haben noch zwei andere Hunde hier im Haus, aber das ist immer noch was anderes, als einen eigenen vierbeinigen Seelengefährten an der Seite zu haben.

Eigentlich hatte ich schon lange geplant, einmal einen Erinnerungs Post mit all den tollen Fotos aus unserer gemeinsamen Zeit zu posten, aber es hat sich bisher nicht stimmig angefühlt. Vielleicht mache ich das morgen noch, oder irgendwann, oder nie. Ich weiß es nicht.

Aber so ist das Leben eben, da brauche ich euch nichts Neues zu erzählen. Umso wichtiger ist es doch, die Zeit, die man gemeinsam hat einfach zu genießen und wertzuschätzen. Sich nicht in alltäglichen Streitereien zu verlieren, sondern auf das Wesentliche zu schauen. Familie, Freunde, Haustiere, die Natur und das Geschenk des Lebens.

Man sagt die Zeit heilt alle Wunden und ja, das mag stimmen. Aber manchmal bleiben auch Narben zurück, nicht wahr? Ich habe schon viele Menschen und Tiere "verloren" .. an den Tod oder an das Leben mit all seinen Veränderungen eben. Die Frage, ob sie wirklich weg oder noch in irgendeiner Form da sind werden wohl nie endgültig klären können. Mir persönlich gefällt aber die Idee von einem freundlichen Universum, in dem niemals etwas verloren geht sondern nur in anderer Form weiter existiert sehr gut.

Und wie um meine Theorie zu beweisen, hat die Kamera beim Fotografieren der Kerze ein interessantes Ergebnis hervorgebracht:
