*Rosalba, la hija menor de Flor Marina, llegó al pueblo justo cuando sus hermanos, con pasos lentos y acompasados, llevaban en hombro el féretro de su madre para darle su último adiós. La única que no pudo estar presente fue Rosalba, ella se había ido de casa molesta con sus hermanos por toda la carga de responsabilidades delegadas sobre su madre. El dolor de Rosalba fue mayor, ella sabía que su madre no tendría un final feliz si seguia sometida a esa tortura con sus hermanos. Solo desde la lejanía despidió con profundo dolor Rosalba a su adorada madre.*

Flor Marina era una mujer humilde, llena de valentía, echada pa'lante como se dice en criollo. Formó una familia y tuvo tres hijos a quienes les dió todo lo que pudo, el amor para sus muchachos nunca faltó. El matrimonio de Flor Marina fue estable, la muerte la separó de su esposo cuando sus hiijos estaban grandes cada uno con hogar propio a excepción de Rosalba quien preferiría esperar, estudiar era lo primero.

Al fallecer don Sebastian, esposo de Flor Marina, ésta quedó triste y abatida. No podía estar sola en casa, prefería estar al lado de sus nietos y para ello debía quedarse en casa de Pablo o de Mery sus hijos mayores pero, no pasó mucho tiempo para comenzar con los problemas. Ya Flor Marina no llegaba a casa de sus hijos a pasar un rato y disfrutar con sus nietos, ya eran días o semanas interna cuidando y atendiendo a los pequeños. Obviamente, por mucha fortaleza de aquella mujer, el cansancio ya la vencía. Lavar, cocinar, llevar a los niños a la escuela, atenderlos en sus necesidades, no era nada fácil para ella.

La tristeza comenzó a apoderarse de Flor Marina y Rosalba lo notaba. Al parecer era la única sesata y se mostraba en desacuerdo con las actitudes de sus hermanos. Rosalba, con lágrimas en los ojos manifestaba dolor porque si tomaba la decisión de seguir cuidando a los niños, seguramente no podría verlos más. Ante este pensamiento Rosalba prefirió quedarse callada. 

Ante la negativa de la madre, Rosalba decide hablar con sus hermanos pero no fue sorpresa para ella conocer las respuestas que parecían estudiadas y muy bien coordinadas. Ambos hermanos sostenían que su madre podía atender a los niños minestras ellos trabajaban. La situación se agravó cuando ya no solo Flor Marina cuidaba a los niños de lunes a viernes, ahora habían decido que fuese también fines de semana porque las faenas de trabajo agotaban a los hermanos y necesitaban distracción.

La última gota derramó el vaso. Rosaura ante tanta injusticia decide irse de casa para no ver derrotada a su madre. Sintió culpa por no haber podido hacer más por ella, la misma Flor obstaculizaba las conversaciones y posibles soluciones. Dos años estuvo Rosalba fuera de casa, dos años fueron suficientes para que el estrés a raíz del excesivo trabajo, más la tristeza, más la pérdida de su esposo, más la partida de su hija menor, más su silencio, acabaran con la vida de su humilde madre.

Rosalba, al enterarse de la noticia quedó devastada, su culpa rasgó su alma, su impotencia le hizo sentir asco de ella misma, la crueldad de sus hermanos llegó al límite. Tanto fue su dolor que Rosalba no quiso compartir ni siquiera la sala donde se realizaba el velatorio de su madre. No quiso ser participe del show de sus hermanos, no quiso escuchar el llanto hipócrita de dos seres a quienes por desgracia le tocó llamar hermanos.

Eran las dos de la tarde cuando las rodillas de Rosalba se desplomaron y golpearon el suelo árido y seco del cementerio. Eran las dos de la tarde cuando sus hermanos, con pasos lentos y acompasados, llevaban en hombro el féretro de su madre para darle su último adiós.

Rosalba, Flor Marina's youngest daughter, arrived in town just as her siblings, with slow and rhythmic steps, were carrying their mother's coffin on their shoulders to say their last goodbye. The only one who could not be present was Rosalba, she had left home upset with her siblings for all the burden of responsibilities delegated on her mother. Rosalba's pain was greater, she knew that her mother would not have a happy ending if she continued to be subjected to this torture with her siblings. Only from a distance did Rosalba say goodbye to her beloved mother with deep sorrow.

Flor Marina was a humble woman, full of courage, "echada pa'lante" as they say in Creole. She raised a family and had three children to whom she gave everything she could, love for her boys was never lacking. Flor Marina's marriage was stable, death separated her from her husband when her children were grown up, each with their own home, except for Rosalba who preferred to wait, studying came first.

When Don Sebastian, Flor Marina's husband, died, she was sad and depressed. She could not be alone at home, she preferred to be with her grandchildren and for that she had to stay with Pablo or Mery, her older children, but it was not long before the problems began. Flor Marina did not come to her children's house to spend some time and enjoy with her grandchildren, it was already days or weeks as a boarder in one of the houses taking care of the little ones. Obviously, no matter how strong that woman was, she was getting tired. Washing, cooking, taking the children to school, taking care of their needs, was not easy for her.

Sadness began to take over Flor Marina and Rosalba noticed it. It seemed that she was the only one who was the only one in the family and she disagreed with the attitudes of her siblings. Rosalba, with tears in her eyes, expressed pain because if she made the decision to continue taking care of the children, she would surely not be able to see them anymore. At this thought Rosalba preferred to remain silent. 

Faced with her mother's refusal, Rosalba decided to talk to her siblings, but it was not surprising for her to learn the answers, which seemed to be well studied and very well coordinated. Both brothers maintained that their mother could take care of the children while they worked. The situation worsened when not only Flor Marina took care of the children from Monday to Friday, but now they had decided that it would also be weekends because the work tasks exhausted the siblings and they needed distraction.

The last straw broke the camel's back. Rosaura, faced with so much injustice, decides to leave home so as not to see her mother defeated. She felt guilt for not having been able to do more for her, Flor herself hindered the conversations and possible solutions. Two years Rosalba was away from home, two years were enough for the stress of too much work, plus the sadness, plus the loss of her husband, plus the departure of her youngest daughter, plus her silence, to put an end to the life of her humble mother.

Rosalba, upon hearing the news, was devastated, her guilt increased, her impotence made her feel disgusted with herself, the cruelty of her siblings reached its limit. Such was her pain that Rosalba did not even want to share the room where her mother's wake was being held. She did not want to be part of her brothers' show, she did not want to listen to the hypocritical crying of two beings whom unfortunately she had to call brothers.


It was two o'clock in the afternoon when Rosalba's knees collapsed and hit the dry, arid ground of the cemetery. It was two o'clock in the afternoon when her siblings, with slow and rhythmic steps, carried their mother's coffin on their shoulders to say their last goodbye.
