@berniesanders, what do you think of the current Steem flagging system? I mentioned that I have used it like the downvote button on Reddit, but it seems on Steemit that perhaps flagging is a core issue. 

Do you think the system would work better if it was an upvote only model, or do you feel flagging helps with curation? I know there's some unhappiness regarding reward allocation, but is it possible that removing flagging altogether would eventually resolve this situation?

@tuck-fheman and @themarkymark I'd love to get your opinions on the same.  I'm really not familiar with the background of all this, but since I've been downvoted into oblivion as a result of it, I'm at least curious about it now.

I agree. So wouldn't eliminating flags be a possible resolution to this then?

If not, is there some other change to the platform you believe would rectify this issue, or do you believe it is up to the users to self-police? I also don't know if new users even understand that flagging uses voting power... Or if they even understand that voting power exists...

This is my first week actually using Steem and I sure as hell don't understand plenty.

Flagging should be referred to as downvoting, and in fact is a change that is being made.  

The main reasons given as examples for flagging are:

It was never meant as a tool for disagreement, it is there because this is a decentralized platform with no police or "moderator.  We are responsible for our own cleanup.

There are two major issues:

1) People can't handle flags, they get pissed thinking you stole their money (aka *potential rewards*)
2) Many flag out of spite and hate and not to combat spam/abuse

Well put. Humans have a strong aversion to loss, and I can definitely see people viewing loss of Steem rewards as theft.

Is the change to downvoting you're referring to mentioned on Github or somewhere else that I can read about it? As a relative noob, I'm not really sure where the best place to get updates on the platform itself is.

I have only looked a little into the war, but I have seen no proof that @haejin does make actually bad market predictions. 

If you just want to downvote his content for being poorly written, repetetive and overvalued, I think most in trending would deserve a downvote.
