Just used Windows (10) for the first time in years... And I STILL HATE IT! FOSS FTW!!!
After being strong armed into upgrading a relatives Windows machine I was confronted with all the reasons why I hate windows.

# 1) Insanely slow boot time
For a brand new computer with an i5 and 8GB of ram it sure took more than 15 minutes to get fully booted the first time. Only to lead me to #2...

# 2) Updates are forced on you, at the WORST time!
The moment you get in and start doing something it forces all the upgrades on you, which I get are important for security, but still can't they be done in the background like in mac and linux? NO, they are forced to take over the computer, hog your network and basically make the entire experience miserable!

# 3) Finally getting through upgrades only to be stuck watching Windows reboot up to 12 times to install the updates
Now after finally getting all the updates/upgrades downloaded, because of the TERRIBLE design of windows, it requires you to be locked out of your desktop AGAIN for potentially hours while it installs and installs update after update!

Purchase a brand new computer and for the first 2 hours it basically is unusable. Then EVERY time it updates you are fearing that when you need to do something you are locked out in an update cycle you can't even bypass!

# Why Linux rules!
Well linux you can literally update everything as you are running the system. The only time you need to do a system reboot (and you can even avoid this if you really must) is to upgrade your kernel! The updates are fast, easy and mostly in the background, and NEVER applied while you are booting the computer.

Think about it, if you turn your computer on, didn't you want to use it? WHY does windows make THAT the time to apply updates and lock you out? Well it is simply by design of their crappy kernel and system!


# Nerd rant
It is directly related to their very design. In linux login as root and delete the operating system. It WILL let you! This means it can UPDATE the operating system while the files are still running in main memory (ram). When you reload the system the new files are used, it appears seamless to the user and boot times are not effected.

Windows go try and delete a core file even as the "admin". You can't! The kernel refuses to allow itself to be updated on your hard drive even though it is already running in main memory! The current version of the software is already sitting and running in main memory!

To simplify what I said: When you run a program, it is copied first from the hard drive to main memory (ram) and then executed in main memory. You could have a copy of the software running in main memory and update the file(s) on the hard drive for the future runs of that software. THIS is why all linux, mac, android, etc operating systems are SO much faster and better to use!

I understand you some much bro, forced update and no way to stop it, its the stupid thing I have never see, Its just like MS rapeing your pc. I have a fuck machine with windows 10 in my job and its fail updating once and once again, no way to update it or stop that shit and the forced downloading.

Im a Debian user since 2009, on my desktop and laptop, I love gnome 3. I like Linux kernel, but I realy wait for a full stable version of HURD. I think this will be the future of the SO.

I've been waiting and suffering 8.1 for some time now dreading what they did with 10. I've heard a few good things about 10 but I'm still skeptical. I am at the point where I finally can use this crappy version semi efficiently (damn I  miss Windows WP and office 2003, maybe I'm just old). My company is still on Windows 7 and refuses to even consider 8 because...well most folks already know the story so I'll spare the rant.

Thanks for the info. 

And thanks Microsoft for making worse and worse products year after year for the past decade or so.

Man that skynet stuff is no joke and it could come faster than we could ever imagine. Idk how to protect myself from the hardware like killer robots gone off the reservation, AI that becomes a god like entity, etc.

The diagrams are hilarious. I only used Win10 for a short amount of time before I left my previous job, but it was *better* than any other Windows I've used, but that's the thing right, if that's their *better*, then there is at the least long time to go for good. I agree 100% with you, the whole updating situation - that right there is the worst thing about Windows and as much as they claim it got better version to version, the core issues with them persist.

Oh wow, thank you for such an easy to understand explanation, it makes perfect sense and definitely on a user level I enjoy working with OSX, *nix and Android OSes. Microsoft tries, I do think they are much better than they were years ago, but yea, perhaps they are in too deep with their kernel that no matter how much they try to change things up and improve, a complete rewrite is not viable at this point.

I hate Windows 10 with a passion it’s the least user friendly part of technology I’ve ever had to deal wih. I definitely prefer Mac. It’s so user friendly that anyone can figure it out. My fave.

I am kinda less excited about anything Apple nowadays than I was say 10 years ago, but I'd also be a hypocrite hating on it, as I have been using OSX for all of my work and music stuff for years and it's smooth as butter for that.

Linux upgrades usually make my existing hardware run more efficiently. To upgrade a windows system,  I need to throw out half my perfectly good hardware. It only seems legit to anyone who has never used Linux and of course, to the companies manufacturing computers and clumsy operating systems. Don't even start on the security hassles, virus software required and so on.
