Consuming Resources
Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to appreciate continuing to consume through the supplies at home!

# Consuming Resources

Consuming through the things in the house continues!

![IMG_6657.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/cmplxty/23z77V19xJJpqQhodAAddofdxazerokDsBD8Ma7wEG2fPBousKgfwYuVqrtZAwvN8nPZt.JPG)

I've written a few times lately about how I am trying to figure out what to do to consume through the stuff that we've got in the house. A lot of it is food related things, but certainly not all of it! I've been making some good progress lately which is great, because that means less things wasted!

I know that one of the things that we are used to these days is trying to stock up on things. I know that the economy is shit for the most part, and certainly for a lot of people out there. One of the big challenges is that when we stock up on things, sometimes we end up forgetting about them and they go bad, which then wastes some money! That's not good!

In light of that, one of the conscious choices I made last year was to make sure that I was consuming through all of the things in the house. Be it vitamins, essential oils or preserved food, I have been trying to get through as much of it as I can. This has been a successful endeavor that's for sure! I've gotten rid of, via consumption, so many things in the house it's good. We are gaining some space back and really taking advantage of the money we spent before.

Sure it's not the best to be buying preserved things for food, but at the same time we have to be practical. Buying cooked and canned beans is a great alternative for having dried beans and needing to soak them and prepare them. I know that sounds incredibly lazy, which in some ways it is, but at the same time it is a good balance between oldschool ways and garbage fastfood new ways.

![IMG_0492.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/cmplxty/EpCAKXET1PkGivpWeRx3p9SmFADgP2yL28xP2P9e3r6KSESE2JTSahEXtKhhxkJJFq4.jpeg)

I've made a considerable amount of progress in the vitamin department! I have been taking a lot of the things that we've piled up over the years, which in relative terms of course means normal things like curcumin and others, that we bought for one reason or another but never ended up using or finishing. Well that shit gets finished with me that's for sure LOL

I try to take it easy in a way, in that I cut the dose down to stretch it out. I know it's likely not the best to be taking many different supplements but these aren't specific ones that are for one intense thing like bladder infections or something like that. I know that's not good to be taking routinely so I leave those alone but the traditional vitamins and herbs, for the most part those things are good as gone!

This has been an interesting and good journey for me in a lot of ways. It reminds me that it's important to buy things but it's also incredibly important to use up what you bought so that you don't end up wasting things. Lifecycle is an important concept to understand and appreciate!

![IMG_3567.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/cmplxty/23xAW4qpmJntbK2vvAGZWTkfLoZhAb1S1Tryv4sLQwU78JmG6RFPsGutFVAiJSJos3LSU.jpg)

What about you, are you trying to make some progress on the things you have stocked in your house in the past? Let me know in the comments!

Hahah yeah I hear you man. We were like that as well but slowly and surely it gets consumed! I just started switching one of the meals to that and just chopped through.

Do you have a lot of frozen things you can make a soup or stew? One of my absolute favorite gadgets when I went into an office was my micro crock pot! It was big enough for one sizable serving and you plug it in an hour from when you want to eat and it’s piping hot and delicious! I made soups or stews the day before or few days and would bring in a crock pot to work every day.

That is cool. We have a lot of meat that we will probably be grilling more often as the weather gets better. We also have a lot of vegetables. I would imagine we will burn through it all by the end of the summer.

Hehe I used to have this issue when I first moved in a new place.. I stocked up on a lot of stuff. It's been a few years now and I think I have a better sense of "my utilisation rate" of various items in the house, and I have reduced some of my purchases as a result. :)

If the item has a long lifecycle, I usually leave it there as a backup of sorts in case it becomes unavailable to purchase in the future. Short lifecycle items like food are put into the priority category in order I could finish them early. Heard somewhere that the fresher the food, the more nutritious it is.

BTW, really amazing angle shot on the first photo :)

Yeah as the food sits there on the counter or on the fridge the nutrients dissipate slowly. It makes sense but thankfully we have good refrigeration these days to slow down the process!

Thanks on the photo :D, was it the cover one or the one in the body? I love the "down the barrel" style shots!
