 [Chris K](https://www.pexels.com/photo/light-bulb-turned-on-during-nighttime-8854158/) HALLOWEEN. To me, Halloween was like a war; thrilling to talk about and horrid if you're in it. Nobody was talking about anything lately other than Madam Wong's Halloween-themed party. Three days before Halloween, Madam Wong invited my mom and other top decorators. In her croaky voice, she had said: "This is going to be the best to ever be recorded in this town... It has been dry for a while now." It's going to be a thing that would bomb the air making everyone feel the impact of Halloween. She was right. Bloomville never had such delight or any enthusiastic event for about four years. Civilization they had said was gradually erasing the fun things we had taken as a culture. The culture is now turning into what we do not understand, making everyone grow in the realm of a dullard. Mom had made me a zombie queen dress- a tattered big t-shirt that said "PICK MY BRAIN!" and a pair of baggy trousers she made from some cheap cloth in her small shop. From Theresa Charity's work, she had gotten me a tiara with pink pearls all around it. It looks just like a Jung but yet was lovely. By night, my gang had gathered at my place for a Halloween dinner- strawberry pudding and Coca-Cola. My mum had carved pumpkins and made smiley faces on them. After we had dinner, she drove us down to Madam Wong's coffee place, where the Halloween party was taking place. My gang- me, Asher, and Mabel had kissed my mom goodbye and she drove off, promising to be back in two hours. We waved off the smoke from the bad exhaust of my mom's car and headed for the door. We were driving with the jalopy car bursting out a lot of smoke from the exhaust. "I hope this party turns out to be good," Asher grunted before we pushed the door open. Like her, we expected it to be the most thrilling and interesting it will ever be. Mabel found it kind of hard to get in because of her doughnut costume. With not too much effort, we dragged her in. "Seriously? Is this what we came here for?" Mabel nodded her head in disappointment. The room was empty...void of a Halloween vibe. There was not a single pumpkin! Before we could utter a word, the lights went off. It went just too sudden and unexpectedly. "Oh my God, I hate the dark." I started to panic after we waited for a while. We were all scared of the dark "Boo!" A thunder-like voice filled the whole room and we flinched. Mabel muttered something about wetting herself but we didn't laugh. There was no joke in the dark. We didn't wait for one more second before we broke into heels, heading back to the door "it's stuck." I shrilled, my hands trembling as I struggled with the handle of the door. We were very much afraid after hearing the thunderous voice coming from nowhere. Immediately the lights went on and we found Madam Wong and nearly all the people in town laughing hard. The laugh was so annoying. "Scared little children." Mabel's dress was wet from pee already and my face was reddened with fear. "Hope you got them on video?" Someone said from behind. For them, it was one of the best HALLOWEEN ever but to me, it wasn't.

Really well done, @cool08. The story is all the more effective because the children got what they were looking for: a real Halloween. However, they realized there can be too much Halloween. An interesting aspect of your story is a subtle commentary on practical jokes. Everyone has fun but the targets. And, is that really funny? Your descriptions are fantastic, down to the doughnut costume that gets stuck in the door. Boo! works perfectly here. Thank you for sharing this story with us.
