The rain was pouring heavily outside a large and neatly arranged office. A young man, sitting on an office chair where his suit jacket was draped over the back, was busy with some work on his laptop when the door was suddenly opened by another young man who wore a broad smile as he stepped into the office.
"Afternoon, Kelvin," said the young man who just entered the office as he sat himself on one of the two chairs opposite Kelvin.
"Afternoon, bro. What's up with the happiness, Jason?" Said Kelvin, who couldn't help but also smile as he noticed the happiness on his friend's face.
"I just came across something online, and it really interested me," said Jason. "You know, from our recent discussion on investment in stock markets, I decided to research some platforms, and I came across one today." He announced, still smiling broadly.
"What's it about?" Kelvin asked, now pushing aside his laptop so as to pay full attention to his friend.
"They're offering to pay seventy-five percent of your investment in just two weeks as profits" Said Jason, now bringing out his phone from his pocket.
"Take a look at this." They both sat down there watching videos and reading messages of people's success stories.

When Kelvin got home that day, he explained to his wife about the investment platform he and his friend had just discovered during their dinner.
"This is clearly a fraud!" Yelled his wife after he finished his explanation.
"What are you saying?" Said Kelvin, who was bewildered by his wife's lack of support.
"Have you ever heard of such an investment before? Their return on the investment is too high." He said his wife was still yelling.
"The success stories from other investors show they're legit. I don't know what's making you think this way. This is an opportunity of a lifetime!" He said with annoyance in his voice. His wife hissed.
"You're blinded by greed. Please open your eyes!" His wife shouted at him, covering her face with her palms.
"It's my fault for telling you in the first place," he said and walked out on her.

"My wife didn't approve of me investing in this platform," he told Jason the next day when he got to work.
"Forget about her. It'd come as a surprise when we both hit it. The devil's just trying to use her to make you miss this opportunity." Jason told him, squeezing his face.
Later that day, they called the representative of the investment platform, who was very charismatic. He managed to convince them to invest a large amount of money so as to receive large returns, which they both did.
As days went by, Kelvin and Jason both watched their investment grow on the platform. They were filled with happiness.
However, on a Saturday morning, when the two weeks were over, Kelvin, completely overjoyed, tried withdrawing his funds, but to his surprise, he couldn't. He started sweating profusely. He quickly ran outside to his balcony to call his friend over the phone.
"Jason, I can't withdraw my funds," he whispered, not wanting his wife to hear.
"I'm experiencing the same issue here," said Jason. "Maybe we should call their representative," he suggested.
Immediately after he dropped Jason's call, he called the representative.
"Why can't I withdraw my money!" He shouted over the phone.
"Calm down, sir," said the calm voice of the representative. "The money you invested was low compared to other investors. You need to invest more to collect your returns." At this, Kelvin went berserk. He started shouting and hurling insults at the representative, who later hung up. It was then he realized he had been scammed.

He just stood on his balcony, feeling as though a veil had been removed from his face. His heart was racing very fast as he wished all these had been a nightmare. He had invested almost all his savings on the platform his wife warned him about. 
He wished he had the power of hindsight to know his wife was telling the truth
