Hive dApps Share | Hive Posting Frontends Share And There Evolution | May 2021
Unlike the traditional media the Hive blockchain has many frontends. Some of them are niche specific, other more general. 
What is the usage of each of them? How many posts are posted from the individual frontends? What is the trend? Are some getting more traction then others?

We all know blogging dApps are not the only ones build on Hive. Games are taking advantage of the Hive blockchain and we are already seeing more of them build each day. Splinterlands opened the gate for games on Hive, and now we have many more.

Here we will only be looking only into the blogging apps:
-	Hive.blog
-	Peakd
-	Ecency
-	LeoFinance
-	dBuzz
-	Actifit
-	Others

**The period that will be analyzed is January 1 to May 24, 2021**.

We will also rank the top 10 fontedns by number of posts for January 2021.


# Top 10 Hive Frontends 

Here is the chart for the overall number of posts from the top Hive frontends in the last 30 days.

*Note these are posts only, comments are not included.*

**Peakd** is the most used Hive frontend now. It has surpassed the Hive.Blog frontend. A 38k to 32k posts in the period. Its not even that close. 

PeakD has been in the lead for the top frontend for Hive for a while now, almost since the start of the blockchain. It is being constantly developed and introduced with new features that makes it a great experience for Hive.

Hive.Blog, the default frontend is on the second place. Next is Ecency, then the short form apps dBuzz and Actifit. Leofinance, 3Speak also in the top.

Proofofbrain is the new kid on the block. In a short period of existence it has climbed to the top 10 Hive frontends. 

Next lets take a look at the individual forntends trend.

# Peakd
The chart for Peakd in 2021.

Since the start of the year, we can see an increase of the numbers of posts, from under 1k per day to 1400 per day. In the last period we a small decline in the number of posts. This chart follows the price chart quite a lot. 

# Hive.Blog
The generic Hive frontend. Its open source as well. Here is the chart.

A very similar chart as PeakD. An increase from the start of the year to 1200 posts per day and then a small decline. 




# Ecency
Ecency has been around for a long time as well. The old name was esteem. Here is the chart.

More volatility here even than the previous two. An increase, then a small drop. Ecency seems to be growing more than PeakD or Hive.Blog, but it is still smaller then those two. 


# LeoFinance
The chart for LeoFInance.

Unlike the previous, LeoFinance has seen a drop in the numbers of posts. This is mainly due to the price of the LEO token. It is interesting to see the different dynamics, when there is more than one reward pool. 



# Number of daily posts from all Hive frontends

Here is the chart for all the Hive frontends posts per day combined.

We can see that Peakd and Hive.Blog are dominant in the number of posts. 
But the trend seems to be in more diversification of the frontends. Even slightly but it seems that more posts are starting to come from different frontends. Hive.Blog has lost most of its dominance.

Ever since joining HIVE I have been using Peakd and it works great, I love the features, the dark mode on the platform is just like no other on the other frontends. The design philosophy of Peakd is just on a level of its own. I also tried Ecency. Not so intuitive but still a great option plus the points one gets from different activities are a great initiative. Next, I think I will try LeoFinance, and probably earn some Leo. 

Great analytics. For a person who likes to experiment with everything being offered this is much appreciated.

It interesting that LEO finance dropped the most when the markets dropped too, whereas the others held up? I guess because LEO finance is very crypto focused, and presumably people are less motivated to post about crypto after having just lost a bucket of cash.

Lets hope crypto recovers and we see an upward trend back on LEO finance.

That would be interesting. I am not a new user, but nowadays I mostly use Ecency mobile (Android). I think that it is pretty good. I would happily recommend it to any user. Of course the desktop version is more convenient and more pleasant to use. But this is probably true for every (or almost every) application.

Its cool to see that Peakd has grown over Hive Blog in the market share of use as a frontend, personally I have always thought that it is both one of the easiest to use from a UX perspective and the UI is super intuitive. I think it also feels like it is more general purpose rather than being tailored to being too niche community specific. 

Though I am not surprised that Hiveblog and Ecency of course eclipse it in use, I am fairly surprised that both Actifit and dBuzz eclipse leo in use. Personally, I think that leo offers some of the most useful tools available natively on the frontend, such as the leodex and hivestats, of which even peakd and hiveblog don't have any sort of similar tooling offering. However, I think one of leos biggest downsides is the frontend being seemingly too tailored towards content related to just finance, even though it is often used as a general purpose frontend just like hiveblog or peakd. I know that was kind of the original point of leo and its community persay, but I think the utility has shifted over time and that they could position themselves better for growth by not seeming too content specific, which has the side effect of pushing a good portion of hive users away from using its fantastic frontend interface.
