On my last post I received a comment from @hivebuzz informing me that I joined this pokey little blockchain thing a year ago:  Crikey! One whole year! There's a saying: *Time flies when you are having fun* And I have always thought that is utter nonsense. In my experience; time flies, whether you are having fun or not, so it is important that I (and you) make sure we are having as much fun as possible. Or at the very least that our time is spent productively on things that are useful.  *cropped screenshot from [hivebuzz.me](https://hivebuzz.me/@dannewton)* So, the question is... what have I gained from being here for one year? Well I guess the obvious answer is a better understanding of cryptocurrency. Before I joined Hive I was a sceptical non-believer of this weird and magical digital money. Honestly I couldn't see the point of it. And when I signed up, it was on the premise of earning rewards for posting interesting content, and it took me several months to realise that Hive itself was a form of cryptocurrency. Not only was I earning it, but I was suddenly exposed to a thousand posts all talking about the price of Hive, and Bitcoin and all the other alts. I enjoyed being able to earn Hive, but I also started to see it as a worthwhile investment (to the point where I started buying it myself), and that then escalated to investing Bitcoin too. And I am grateful I found this community *before* I started buying crypto. All the knowledge I gained from other people sharing their views/experiences, has enabled me to make informed choices on what to buy, how to make it work for me and most importantly not to panic when the price drops. π <center></center> Other than that, I enjoy the process of writing for its own sake. I have dreams of writing my own book at some point (something to do with insects obviously) and a lot of these posts are a chance for me to practise and improve my writing skills. There is also a staggering variety of subjects to read about from other bloggers from biology to economics, and music to travel, every time I log on I am guaranteed to find something interesting to read about. I hesitate to talk about 'making friends' as I don't feel random messages to strangers on the other side of the world constitutes friendship. But I certainly have connected to a lot of different people, all of whom have their own unique views and experiences, and I do enjoy those connections. I suppose that leads me onto the final point. Those connections and messages I get here on Hive are easily more interesting, more stimulating and more engaging than anything I have got via facebook and/or instagram. And that reason alone makes it worth it for me to continue writing and reading and connecting with others (the fact I get rewarded is just a bonus lol) In conclusion, I think the time spent here is worthwhile, so lets see where this next year takes us... <center></center> <center>Thank you for reading, I hope you found it interesting. <br> If you have any thoughts or opinions on this article then I'd love to see your comments. > Well I guess the obvious answer is a better understanding of cryptocurrency. i think there is no better way to start learning and using crypto then Hive. The option to learn about wallets, transactions, how it all works and not really risking anything is a nice option.
