Light is a form of electromagnetic energy that travels through space in the form of waves. These waves have different wavelengths, which makes them appear in different colors. The electromagnetic spectrum is a way of organizing these light waves according to their wavelength.

An example of how light and the electromagnetic spectrum are related is how bees use light to find flowers. Bees see best in the ultraviolet spectrum of light, which allows them to see flower patterns that are invisible to us.
