In my 60+ years on this planet, I have met a lot of people with Big Plans, and Big Dreams.

Which — I suppose — is *nice,* if you have some kind of plan. But it seems like many people end up overwhelmed by the enomity of they are trying to accomplish, and there *so many* pieces that have to fall into place.

I suppose that if you have a big dream, by all means pursue it!

The older I get, the more I realize that my life has primarily been about the pursuit of very *small* goals. Could be that I just have a *"weak mind,"* and don't like being disappointed... and don't like grind culture. 

Hmmm... actually, I *detest* grind culture...

I *say* that, but for much of my life what has set me apart from my ostensible *"colleagues"* has been a willingness to *stik to* things, long after everyone else has give up.

Strange contradiction. no?

The thing about large goals is that while I have *had* some and sincerely tried to *reach* them, they invariably felt like a *"prison"* of sorts... like being *locked into* a specific lifepath, with no allowance for deviation whenever something potantially more interesting would show up.

Setting myself *"micro goals"* has often been the only thing that has helped me navigate life in a forwards direction. It's often how I manage to get through the day... I know there's something specific I want to get done by the time I head for bed, and I *go for it.*

Doesn't work so well when the goal is *"for the rest of the year."* So I have taught myself to just focus on the micro goal of *today* and trust that when I eventually add all those micro goals together, they will be enough to take care of those *larger ambitions.*

When I look back at my *investment opportunities,* pretty much the only ones that got even *close* to going anywhere were the ones where I focused on adding a few cents or even a couple of dollars a day.

For example, I am trying to scrape together an HBD balance here on Hive by staking any amount of liquid rewards beyond whole dollar amounts. So — for example — if I get 1.43 HBD in liquid rewards, I will always put the $0.43 into HBD savings. Eventually, it'll add up to something!

It's a bit like throwing your loose coins in a big jar every day. It doesn't *seem* like much of anything, but eventually you can end up with a pretty substantial amount... if you just *stick to it* and don't make exceptions and deviate.

For me, it is often the *only* way I can save because our life mostly costs more than we make... so having a *real* rainy day fund is all but impossible.

But you have to do *something* to reduce the risk of being completely hosed if some unfortunate event happens...

Sadly, I was never able to build any kind of *"investment portfolio."* Typically, all those tiny amounts I'd keep setting aside would end up sudden;y having to fund some unexpected and costly disaster that would blow through our lives. And then I'd be back to zero...

Micro goals have generally served me pretty well... in part because they *"dance well"* with my ADHD-ish tendencies. And they can end up working as an effective form of Dollar Cost Averaging, if you keep going for long enough.

For the least few years, I've been pursuing Hive, just a tiny little bit at a time. And I plan to continue doing so!
