"Leave me alone." Desmond said to his father, Jonathan. "And why will I? You've turned yourself into something that we can't understand. Look at your hair. You now smoke hard substances, drink too much alcohol, move with bad friends. This wasn't how I raised you up. Where did I go wrong?" 

Desmond replied, "You did everything wrong dad. You never told me that it was tough to make money. You sugar coated life for me. You made it seem like - go to school, get good grades, and you'll be rich. But that's nonsense dad. I had to find my own path." The tears rolling down grandma Agnes's face did not make Desmond stop shouting back at his father.

Grandma Agnes said, "My boy, now you've become rich, but you have no soul." Desmond replied, "Who needs a soul anyway? How much money did I make by having a soul? Having a soul did not stop the cold hands of death from stealing my mother from us, did it?" Just the thought of his late mother got Desmond angrier.

He picked up his glass, filled with whiskey, and threw it at the television. It smashed the TV screen. Grandma Agnes and Jonathan, were left with their mouths opened. Desmond picked up his car key, with a red face - and stormed out of the living room. He got into his Benz, and drove away.

Desmond drove to the hotel where he and his friends used to hangout. He went straight to the bar. "Give me Vodka," he said to the bartender. He carried a packet of cigarette everywhere he went. He lit up a cigarette, and dragged heavily. After one too many shots of vodka, the bartender Juliet, who was his ex girlfriend begged Desmond to stop drinking, and asked him what was bothering him.

 Desmond paused for a few seconds, then he said, "When I had no money and was useless to my family, they said I had a beautiful soul. Now I've gone through so much pain to make money, they said that I've lost my soul. What do they want from me?" Desmond gnashed his teeth, and shook his head in agony. Juliet immediately left what she was doing, came around, and hugged Desmond softly from his back. 

Desmond closed his eyes, and remembered how his mom would hug him so tight, and kissed him on his forehead. It hurt him that she died because there wasn't enough money for her treatment. 

Juliet hugged him tighter and kissed the back of his head. His temper dropped. He felt the peace he used to feel only in his mother's embrace.

It struck him that even though he left Juliet heart broken, six years ago when he left for the city to go make a life for himself, she's still the one comforting him. He turned, looked into her blue eyes, and he kissed her. He asked her to take an excuse from work, that he needed to take her somewhere.

On the way, he stopped at a shopping complex, and bought a brand new television. He took Juliet back home to grandma Agnes and his dad. He went to grandma Agnes, he knelt down and said, "I'm sorry grandma. That I have become this angry person without a soul. I had to. In order to make money in the city. Over the past seven months you've been admitted into the hospital twice, with an expensive bill. Who paid the bill? It was me."

And Desmond continued, "Grandma, it's not easy for me. I had to become this man, so that I can provide for this family." With a misty eye, grandma Agnes replied, "I understand my boy. I only wished you were happier." Desmond nodded. He turned to his dad, stood up, and walked to him, and said, "I'm sorry dad." Jonathan replied, "It's okay son." 

Jonathan dragged Desmond to a corner, and said, "You know this family loves Juliet. We've known her a long time. She's a nice girl. And she loves you. Why don't you get married to her?" Desmond turned and looked at how Juliet and grandma Agnes were playing, and grandma was laughing and rubbing Juliet's hair. Desmond replied, "I will father. I'll be a fool if I don't."
