It was a gruesome experience for her sitting there listening to these people she had no idea about speak in terms she never knew existed in the English vocabulary. It was a pharmaceutical seminar, featuring pharmacists from all over the country including her friend Didi. She was the reason Laura was here. It was a sort of repayment for an earlier Favour Didi had done for her. All her protestations fell on deaf ears as she attempted to make her friend see reasons it is not necessary for her to attend the seminar. Apart from the fact that her delivery job was time and energy sapping, her boss then choose that particular weekend to travel for his routine check up, leaving Laura to run both the administrative and delivery aspects of the job. Cursing her luck under her breath, she was brought back to the consciousness of her surroundings by the stern and objecting stares of those beside her. Sensing the disapproval, Laura could only flash a sheepish smile while nodding in both directions in a bid to douse the tension and prove to them that she's not bunkers. Her thoughts was then interrupted by the loud cheers of the audience at the introduction of the next speaker. Laura managed a jump at the sight of her friend, not because she was genuinely happy and enthusiastic about her presentation, but because she wanted her to see that she was there. At this display of excessive enthusiasm, she incurred another round of stern looks which had the message "she must be really bunkers" written all over it. Then the woman beside her asked the protocol for a change of seat. *"okay, so she thinks I could be of harm to her, cool"* she thought as she readjusted on her seat. She was already uncomfortable and couldn't wait for her friend to finish so she could just go home and rest. Her eyelids felt like they were carrying the weight of the world and it was a stress already keeping them open. Turning around she could notice an opulent man just a few seats away dozing and almost snoring. *"thought I was the only one getting bored to death"* she thought feeling triumphant. Few minutes later her friend finished her presentation and she jumped up to leave. That was when her body started reacting to all the rigors of her job. Her legs were wobbly, her head felt like she was carrying a ten ton crown on her head, while the rumble in her stomach would have made a dj proud. Not even the sight of perfectly foiled small chops - which is one of her favorites - being shared by the ushers could satiate her thirst for her bed. She managed each step carefully to leave the hall and board a taxi home. She stepped down from the taxi with shoes in hand, her bag hanging loosely, and staggered through the narrow walkway to her apartment. Her head foggy and her mind clouded by the weekend's workload, she did not notice that her sitting room window was open. As she barged into the house, she could faintly hear a few ruffles in the little passage that leads to her room. ***"Reya"*** she called out as she strolled down towards the room, suspecting that it was her cat making the ruffle. As she entered, Reya ran out from beside the bed and jumped on her an curled up in her arms. ***"awwn, so you missed me, don't worry I'm back now and I missed you too"*** she said with eyes half closed. She could notice faintly with eyes half closed that her window was open, but she was too tired to really care as she fell like a pack of cards and dozed off. Unknowingly, she had foiled a burglary attempt at her house as the burglar had decided to go for safety at the sound of her arrival.
