Sometimes in our life, such incidents happen that we are left in awe for the rest of our lives. Something similar happened to me when I was giving my seventh grade exams. Even today, thinking about this incident, I am surprised that the power of faith and trust saved me from a huge loss of life and money.

It happened that our school's 7th class exams were going on. I was giving an English paper in the exam room. The seating arrangement in the exam room was such that the seventh and ninth grade students were sitting behind each other at intervals. As if in this sense, both the students sitting in front of me and behind me were of the ninth grade. This distance was kept so that the chances of cheating in the exam were kept to a minimum.

In our room, the supervisor of the examination process was made a teacher who had a very intimidating personality. In the seventh grade, he taught us the subject of computer science. He considered me among the most polite children in his class. I never misbehaved with them nor did I ever give them an opportunity to complain. All the junior and senior students were afraid of him because of his strange personality. Fearing his loud voice and his heavy hands, no one could even think of cheating in the exam. He was not less than the famous Bollywood actor Salman Khan even in terms of physical appearance. Cheating in his presence was like thumbing one's nose at authority, but there was one student who was trying to cheat despite all this. This cheating student was sitting in the seat behind me and kept cheating during the exam. I was well aware, but I acted blindly and did not inform the teacher. Finally, when the exam was about to end and the teacher became suspicious because of the suspicious behavior of the student, he immediately threw all his slips to the student of his class sitting in front of me and copied himself. Acquitted. When the teacher came and searched, the slips were found under the chair of the student sitting in front of me. The teacher grabbed him by the neck. I was very sad to see this. All the time the student sitting behind me continued cheating but I tolerated it, but when he wanted to trap an innocent student to save himself, my patience ran out. It was almost that the paper of this student would be cancelled, I got up from my seat. Without saying anything, I indicated to the teacher that the cheater student is not the next but the previous one. The student behind immediately realized that I had pointed at him. He panicked and said that I did not cheat. This kid is lying. The teacher turned towards him and hit his desk so forcefully that the supervising teacher in the adjacent exam room also came running to see if anything was broken. Then the teacher completed his sentence and said to this student: This student (i.e. me) never tells a lie. Hearing these words from his mouth, I felt great pride in myself. This sentence was no less than a great honor for me. Even today I remember his sentence as if he had just said it.

Well, This cheater student wanted to trap the innocent student and get his paper canceled, but now his own paper was being cancelled. The teacher immediately canceled the paper by marking a cross with a red pen without hearing anything from him.

قصہ کچھ یوں ہوا کہ ہمارے اسکول کے ساتویں جماعت کے امتحانات چل رہے تھے. میں کمرہ امتحان میں انگریزی کا پرچہ دے رہا تھا. کمرہ امتحان میں بیٹھنے کی ترتیب کچھ یوں تھی کہ ساتویں اور نویں جماعت کے طلبہ وقفے وقفے سے ایک دوسرے کے پیچھے بیٹھے تھے. گویا اس لحاظ سے میرے آگے اور پیچھے بیٹھے ہوئے دونوں طالب علم نویں جماعت کے تھے. یہ فاصلہ اس لیے رکھا جاتا تھا تاکہ امتحان میں نقل کے امکانات کم سے کم تر رہیں.

ہمارے کمرہ میں امتحانی عمل کا نگران ایسے استاذ کو بنایا گیا جو کافی رعب دار شخصیت کے مالک تھے. ساتویں جماعت میں انہوں نے ہمیں کمپیوٹر سائنس کا مضمون پڑھایا تھا. وہ اپنی کلاس میں مجھے سب سے شریف بچوں میں شمار کرتے تھے. میں نے کبھی ان سے بدتمیزی نہیں کی نہ ہی انہیں کبھی کسی بھی شکایت کا موقع دیا. ان کی بارعب شخصیت کج وجہ سے سبھی چھوٹے بڑے طلبہ ان سے خائف رہتے تھے. ان کی کڑک دار آواز اور ان کے بھاری بھرکم ہاتھوں کے ڈر سے کسی کی مجال نہ ہوئی کہ وہ امتحان میں نقل کا خیال بھی دل میں لا سکے. جسمانی ڈیل ڈول کے حساب سے بھی کسی طرح وہ بالی ووڈ کے مشہور اداکار سلمان خان سے کم نہ تھے. ان کی موجودگی میں نقل کرنا جوئے شِیر لانے کے مترادف تھا، مگر ایک طالب علم ایسا بھی تھا جو اس سب کے باوجود بھی نقل کی کوشش کر رہا تھا. یہ نقل کرنے والا طالب علم مجھ سے پچھلی نشست پر براجمان تھا اور امتحان کے دورانیہ میں برابر نقل کرتا رہا. مجھے بخوبی ادراک تھا مگر میں نے چشم پوشی سے کام لیا اور استاذ کو اطلاع نہ کی. آخرکار جب امتحان اختتام پذیر ہونے کے قریب تھا اور اس طالب علم کی مشکوک حرکات کی وجہ سے استاذ کو اس پر شک ہوا تو اس نے فوراً ہی اپنی تمام پرچیاں مجھ سے آگے بیٹھے اپنی کلاس کے طالب علم کی طرف پھینک دیں اور خود نقل سے بری الذمہ ہو گیا. استاذ نے جب آ کر تلاشی لی تو مجھ سے آگے بیٹھے طالب علم کی کرسی کے نیچے سے پرچیاں برآمد ہوئیں. استاذ نے اسے گردن سے پکڑ لیا. مجھے یہ دیکھ کر بہت دکھ ہوا. سارا وقت مجھ سے پیچھے بیٹھا طالب علم نقل کرتا رہا مگر میں نے برداشت کیا، لیکن جب اس نے خود کو بچانے کے لیے ایک معصوم طالب علم کو پھنسانا چاہا تو میرے صبر کا پیمانہ لبریز ہو گیا. قریب تھا کہ اس طالب علم کا پرچہ کینسل کر دیا جاتا، میں اپنی نشست سے اٹھ کھڑا ہوا. میں نے بغیر کچھ کہے استاذ کو اشارے سے بتایا کہ نقل کرنے والا طالب علم اگلا نہیں بلکہ پچھلا ہے. پیچھے طالب علم نے فوراً بھانپ لیا کہ میں نے اس کی طرف اشارہ کیا ہے. وہ گھبرا کر کہنے لگا کہ میں نے نقل نہیں کی. یہ بچہ جھوٹ بول رہا ہے. استاذ اس کی جانب متوجہ ہوئے اور اس کی میز پر اس قدر زوردار انداز میں ہاتھ مارا کہ ساتھ والے کمرہ امتحان میں موجود نگران ٹیچر بھی دوڑتی ہوئی آ گئیں کہ کہیں کچھ ٹوٹ تو نہیں گیا. پھر استاذ نے اپنا جملہ مکمل کرتے ہوئے اس طالب علم سے کہا: یہ طالب علم (یعنی کہ میں) کبھی بھی جھوٹ نہیں بولتا. ان کی زبانی یہ الفاظ سن کر مجھے اپنے آپ میں بڑا فخر محسوس ہوا. یہ جملہ میرے لیے کسی بڑے اعزاز سے کم نہیں تھا. آج بھی ان کا جملہ مجھے ایسے یاد ہے گویا انہوں نے ابھی ابھی کہا ہو.

خیر. اس نقل کرنے والے طالب علم نے جس معصوم طالب علم کو پھنسا کر اس کا پرچہ کینسل کروانا چاہا تھا، اس کے بجائے اب اس کا اپنا پرچہ کینسل ہو رہا تھا. استاذ نے اس کی کوئی بات سنے بغیر ہی فوراً اس کے پرچے پر سرخ قلم سے کراس کا نشان لگا کر پرچہ کینسل کر دیا.

Now, The boy whose paper was canceled on my indication was a bit of a mischievous boy. The next day, there was no paper for the ninth graders, but mine was for Islamiat. I got busy preparing for it as usual and I did not take any special effect of this incident. The subject of Islamiat has always been dear to me. I got 75 out of 75 marks in this subject in class 10th. In Islamic studies, we are taught Quranic verses, hadiths of the Prophet, Islamic events, end of Prophethood, and other beliefs.

I did not care that that mischievous student might have hatched a conspiracy against me, prepared as usual and went to the entrance of the school to take the exam. There was still some time left for the gate to open, so I started repeating my lesson as usual while walking in the ground adjacent to School. While on the other side, some boys at the end of the street were waiting for me with hockey sticks, bats and other weapons. Suddenly a boy came to me and he told me that some boys are calling you there. Now the situation was such that I neither wanted to fight nor wanted to show cowardice by running away. I had an open chance to enter the school gate and save my life. But how long? How long would I hide from them and then live in fear all the time? So I decided that it would be better for me to face this problem with a smile on my face. So, I started going in the direction of these guys. Ayat-ul-Kursi was being recited on my tongue and I was fully confident that Allah will protect me. When I reached these boys, I saw that the boy who was caught cheating yesterday was also present among these boys. On my arrival, an elderly boy beckoned me towards him. I went to this elderly and said very politely: Yes, brother. you called me.

As soon as he heard these words from my mouth, he asked me to go back with a hand gesture. I don't know if it was my style or what he was thinking that allowed me to go back without saying anything. While coming, I was afraid that all of them would beat me together and make me bleed. But now the story had completely changed. I was allowed to return. So I turned back. While going back, I started hearing noises from behind. It was felt as if they had fought each other. But I did not pay attention to them again and continued to walk towards the school. Since that day, the student who copied have never bothered me. Because he was threatened by this elderly boy saying that he is my younger brother. If he makes the mistake of touching him, he won't let it go. Although I did not know this elderly boy, I had never even met him before that day, but within a moment he made me his brother.

اب جس لڑکے کا پرچہ میری ایماء پر کینسل ہوا تھا وہ تھوڑا بدمعاش قسم کا لڑکا تھا. اگلے دن نویں جماعت والوں کا پرچہ نہیں تھا مگر میرا اسلامیات کا پرچہ تھا. میں معمول کے مطابق اس کی تیاری میں مصروف ہو گیا اور اس واقعے کا میں نے کوئی خاص اثر نہیں لیا. اسلامیات کا مضمون ہمیشہ سے مجھے ہردلعزیز رہا ہے. دسویں جماعت میں اس مضمون میں میرے 75 میں سے 75 نمبر آئے تھے. اسلامیات میں ہمیں آیات قرآنی، احادیث رسول، اسلامی واقعات، ختم نبوت اور دیگر عقائد سے متعلق باتیں پڑھائی جاتی ہیں.

میں اس بات سے بے پرواہ ہو کر کہ وہ بدمعاش طالب علم میرے خلاف کوئی سازش رچائے بیٹھا ہوگا، اپنے معمول کے مطابق تیاری کرکے امتحان دینے اسکول کے دروازے پر جا پہنچا. ابھی گیٹ کھلنے میں کچھ وقت باقی تھا تو میں حسن معمول اسکول سے متصل ہی گراؤنڈ میں چلتے چلتے اپنے سبق کی دہرائی کرنے لگا. جبکہ دوسری جانب گلی کے اختتام پر موجود کچھ لڑکے ہاکی، بیٹ اور دیگر ہتھیار نما چیزیں لیے میرا انتظار کر رہے تھے. مجھے اپنے ہم جماعت ساتھی نے آکر خبردار کیا کہ جس لڑکے کی تم نے کل شکایت لگائی تھی، آج وہ تمہیں تشدد کا نشانہ بنائیں گے. میں حالانکہ ان لڑکوں کو مسلح دیکھ چکا تھا مگر میں انہیں نظر انداز کرتے ہوئے اپنا سبق دہراتا رہا، مگر دل ہی دل میں کھٹکا سا پیدا ہو گیا. سو اس اندیشے کو رفع کرنے کے لیے میں نے آیۃ الکرسی کا ورد کرنا شروع کر دیا. اس وقت مجھے صرف اتنا معلوم تھا کہ اللہ پاک آیۃ الکرسی پڑھنے سے اپنے فرشتوں کو ہماری مدد کے لیے بھیجتا ہے. لیکن کیا میں ان سب سے لڑنے کی سکت رکھ پاؤں گا؟ وہ تعداد میں بھی زیادہ تھے اور ان کے پاس ہتھیار بھی تھے. جبکہ میں تن تنہا تھا، ان کے مقابلہ میں بے دست و پا بس امتحان کی تیاری میں مگن تھا. اسی اثناء میں اسکول کا دروازہ کھل گیا اور طلبہ ایک ایک کرکے اندر جانے لگے. اچانک میرے پاس ایک لڑکا آیا اور اس نے مجھے بتایا کہ کچھ لڑکے آپ کو وہاں بلا رہے ہیں. اب صورتحال ایسی تھی کہ نہ میں لڑنا چاہتا تھا اور نہ ہی بھاگ کر بزدلی دکھانا چاہتا تھا. میرے پاس کھلا موقع تھا کہ میں اسکول کے دروازے سے اندر داخل ہو کر اپنی جان بچا لیتا. لیکن آخر کب تک؟ آخر کب تک میں ان سے چھپتا پھرتا اور پھر ہمہ وقت خوف کے ساتھ زندگی گزارتا؟ سو میں نے یہی فیصلہ کیا کہ اس پریشانی کا خندہ پیشانی سے سامنا کرنا ہی میرے لیے بہتر ہوگا. سو، میں ان لڑکوں کی سمت جانے لگا. میری زبان پر آیت الکرسی کا ورد جاری تھا اور مجھے اس بات پر پورا یقین تھا کہ اللہ پاک میری ضرور حفاظت فرمائے گا. جب میں ان لڑکوں کے پاس پہنچا تو دیکھا کہ انہی لڑکوں میں وہ لڑکا بھی موجود تھا جو کل نقل کرتے ہوئے پکڑا گیا تھا. میرے پہنچنے پر ایک بڑی عمر کے لڑکے نے اشارے سے مجھے اپنی طرف بلایا. میں اس بڑی عمر کے لڑکے کے پاس گیا تو میں نے انتہائی شائستگی کے ساتھ کہا: جی بھائی. آپ نے مجھے بلایا؟

میرے منہ سے یہ الفاظ سنتے ہی اس نے مجھے ہاتھ سے اشارے سے واپس جانے کا کہہ دیا. میں نہیں جانتا کہ میرے انداز میں ایسی تاثیر تھی یا اس نے کیا سوچ کر مجھے بغیر کچھ کہے واپس جانے کی اجازت دے دی. مجھے آتے ہوئے اس بات کا خوف تھا کہ یہ سب مل کر میری پٹائی کریں گے اور مجھے لہولہان کر دیں گے. مگر اب ماجرا ہی بالکل بدل چکا تھا. مجھے واپسی کی اجازت مل چکی تھی. سو میں واپس پلٹ گیا. واپس جاتے وقت پیچھے سے مجھے شور کی آوازیں آنے لگیں. ایسا محسوس ہو رہا تھا گویا وہ آپس میں لڑ پڑے ہیں. مگر میں نے ان کی جانب دوبارہ التفات نہیں کیا اور اسکول کی جانب قدم بڑھاتا چلا گیا. اس دن کے بعد سے نقل کرنے والے طالب علم نے مجھے کبھی تنگ نہیں کیا. کیونکہ اسے اس بڑی عمر والے لڑکے نے یہ کہہ کر دھمکایا تھا کہ یہ میرا چھوٹا بھائی ہے. اگر اسے ہاتھ لگانے کی بھی غلطی کی تو وہ اسے نہیں چھوڑے گا. حالانکہ میں اس بڑی عمر والے لڑکے کو نہیں جانتا تھا حتیٰ کہ میری اس دن سے پہلے کبھی اس سے ملاقات بھی نہیں ہوئی تھی مگر لمحہ بھر میں ہی اس نے مجھے اپنا بھائی بنا لیا.

I often tell this story to my friends and they are also very surprised. I combine this story with another incident when Mirza Ghalib (who is a famous poet of Urdu language) was taken to Colonel Brown by English soldiers on charges of treason. 

When he appeared before the colonel, he asked Mirza Ghalib, "Are you a Muslim?"

So Mirza Ghalib expressed prominently: I am half a Muslim.

The colonel wondered how he could do it.

Then Mirza Ghalib said: I drink wine but do not eat pork, so it is as if I have become a half Muslim. 

Colonel Brown was very happy to hear this and sent Mirza Ghalib back with honor.

I remember Ghalib's story with my story because Ghalib got rid of the English colonel through his eloquence and magic language and By the grace of my own tongue and mannerisms, I also managed to protect myself from the mischief of those bad boys and safely reached my home.

From this story, I have concluded that if you want to achieve a goal and there is no doubt or doubt of failure in your mind, then you are definitely successful in your goal.

At the same time, I also wonder what would have happened. What if this story didn't end like this? What if those boys had said something to me that day? What if they torture me? Should I have risked my life by interfering in someone else's affairs? Or do I remain silent when I see injustice being done to an innocent?

میں اکثر یہ کہانی اپنے دوستوں کو سناتا ہوں تو وہ بھی بہت حیران ہوتے ہیں. اس کہانی کو میں ایک اور واقعہ کے ساتھ ملاتا ہوں جب مرزا غالب (جو اردو زبان کے مشہور شاعر ہیں) کو غدر کے الزام میں انگریزی سپاہی کرنل براؤن کے پاس لے گئے.

 جب یہ کرنل کے سامنے پیش ہوئے تو اس نے مرزا غالب سے پوچھا کیا تم مسلمان ہو؟

تو مرزا غالب برجستہ گویا ہوئے: آدھا مسلمان ہوں.

کرنل نے تعجب سے پوچھا کہ وہ کیسے؟

تو مرزا غالب کہنے لگے: شراب تو پیتا ہوں مگر سؤر نہیں کھاتا تو گویا آدھا مسلمان ہوا.

یہ سن کر کرنل براؤن بہت محظوظ ہوا اور مرزا غالب کو اعزاز و اکرام کے ساتھ واپس رخصت کردیا.

مجھے غالب کی کہانی اس لیے اپنی کہانی کے ساتھ یاد آتی ہے کہ غالب نے بھی  اپنی قوت گویائی اور جادوئی زبان کے ذریعے انگریزی کرنل سے خلاصی پائی اور میں نے بھی اپنے لب و لہجہ کی بدولت ان بدمعاش لڑکوں کے شر سے بچ کر بحفاظت اپنے گھر کو پہنچا.

اس کہانی سے میں نے یہ نتیجہ اخذ کیا ہے کہ اگر آپ کسی مقصد کو حاصل کرنا چاہتے ہیں اور آپ کے ذہن میں ہلکا سا بھی شک یا ناکامی کا شائبہ نہ ہو تو آپ یقیناً اپنے مقصد میں ضرور بضرور کامیاب ہو کر رہتے ہیں.

اس کے ساتھ ساتھ، میں یہ بھی سوچتا ہوں کہ کیا ہوتا؟ اگر اس کہانی کا اختتام یوں نہ ہوتا؟ کیا ہوتا اگر اس دن وہ لڑکے مجھے کچھ کہہ دیتے تو؟ کیا ہوتا اگر وہ مجھ پر تشدد کر ڈالتے تو؟ کیا مجھے کسی اور کے معاملے میں دخل اندازی کرکے اپنی جان جوکھوں میں ڈالنی چاہیے تھی؟ یا پھر میں کسی معصوم پر ظلم ہوتے دیکھ کر خاموش رہتا؟
