Most of our childhood dreams were influenced by the movies we watched and probably the people we saw around us. We wanted to be many things, and most of them weren't from passion but the desire to be something relevant.  I grew up loving engineering, I had this passion to create things out of nothing and that's what gave me the desire to want to pursue engineering as a lifetime profession. As a child, along with my peers we built toy cars, fans, helicopters, caricature engines, light bulbs and set them into motion. I loved the idea of making things move, power up light, etc. just something that I created with my hands.

But that dream was cut short the day I announced my desire to learn mechanics. Everyone thought it was a bad idea because society trivialized the mechanic job. One of my family friends even ridiculed me the day I went to tell him about it, describing how I'd become a slave to others if that was the path I wanted. I decided to quit being a mechanic and that's where my confusion in choosing a career started. People believed being a Doctor was a profession for the brilliant ones, thus suggesting I go for medicine or any reputable profession.

I finally went for a medical-related course, a profession I didn't like and never loved. But I went through it for 5 years. I wish I knew what I know now, I wish I had the willpower to persist in the dream I wanted, I wish I had to sacrifice comfort for that dream, because I am not happy where I ended up in, not because I didn't go for my childhood dream-profession but because it wasn't just the children random wishes, but a passion that would have pave way for me.

Now I'm not an engineer nor do I love the profession I ended up with. 10 years ago would have been the best time to pursue my dream, Now is the second best time.  I may not go into mechanical engineering again, but I'll find a course where creating is their pride-something I've always wanted to do.
