>Daniel Larimer, former chief technology officer of Block.one and a co-founder of Block.one and Steemit, has revealed his next project, called Clarion.

>The project is meant to become a mobile-first decentralized social media platform, supporting all types of social features like personal messaging via text and video, publishing content to followers or having Discord-like voice chat rooms.

>Larimer’s idea of a better network draws more from RetroShare and Zeronet, two platforms based on peer-to-peer messaging, with the latter based on BitTorrent. He also cited file sharing protocols like IPFS as good examples of decentralized networks. These present usability challenges though, especially on mobile devices.

>Clarion’s blockchain-related aspects are somewhat less clear, as Larimer described it as not needing to reach consensus on the order of user actions, thus making it a “layer 0” platform. WebAssembly plugins will still allow building applications on top of the “Clarion OS.” Larimer clarified that there will be no tokens associated with the project’s base functionality.

#### Awesome.
Short of making something directly on Hive, this is the best thing we could have hoped for really. @dan is creating something for everyone, as is showcased by the lack of an underlying token.  Very smart move: takes all the questions of greed and skepticism right out of the equation. 

The key to crypto obviously lies in the original peer-to-peer technology: Torrents.  I'm glad to see this is being incorporated here.  Very exciting developments.

#### Again, spot on!
This is something I've thought about at length.  Say if I create a gambling dapp and try to launch it on the Play Store.  That's obviously going to be removed before many people can download it.  Distribution has to be decentralized. Anyone will be able to use a system like this to distribute the tech in a decentralized manner with torrents.  This is valuable to the entire cryptoverse. 

### Double Trouble 
I now feel like Hive has two entities on its side working in parallel to create open source tech.  Project Clarion has a lot of promise.  Koinos is also working on open source modular tech that Hive can use.  Both of these entities have extensive knowledge of the Hive ecosystem and may find themselves catering to our network. I couldn't ask for more.

I'm sure he has plenty of time to think about it. 

Also if there's an airdrop that means the open-source protocol could be cloned and we could just do an airdrop on Hive ourselves if the code was valuable enough and we had a team developing it out.

Glad to see him working on something new. It is a pity to see all the haters giving out about the price of EOS like that is his responsibility. From what I see everything he helps create seems to be still chugging away and made better by the community like Hive is.
I am also glad he is going down the open-source route and forgoing the token. I'll be following with interest.

I would be excited, if he made it here on Hive. I think he needs to rethink this habit of making the next bigger and better blockchain. He obviously can contribute that way, but Why? 

He could really make an impact and a name for himself by creating that App here on Hive. Now that would have been Historic. A Community with your style blockchain. I am sure. @theycallmedan would be happy to give him a million SP to come here.

I don't see the core function of Hive being blogging. 
That was just the easiest way to lower the bar of development and value creation to everyone. 

I think there is a far greater chance that RCs become worth so much that blogging on Hive isn't profitable anymore except for the OG core bloggers. 

IMO Hive's core function will be gaming. 
Maybe some DeFi for good measure.

Gaming? Although most of the JSON transactions currently come from Splinterlands, gaming I would not see as core, rather social web portal, tribes (plus their 2nd layer tokens), Defi and micro-transactions

Hive needs to expand to smart contracts working with Main token ( Hive). Like a fork from BSC with main Token Hive.

I think it will end up like projects from the past.

He builds something hype and leaves it ( and dump tokens? :D).

Hive needs real smart contracts ( compare with ETH) and then we rock everything.

And we all know it's some kind of race. Some will end up as Myspace other like Facebook Twitter and co.

In the end game, it Will be a social Blockchain connect with everything you need with super simple Tasks. That can be Hive.

We don't need him, but he gets more attention for sure as Hive.

Marketing will show up a good system is already here and becomes better from day to day.
