Custom works are usually more appreciated because they add extra value to what is created, firstly they allow to establish differences between two designs that perform the same function opening the possibility of having unique and original designs, secondly they allow the creator to add something of its own essence in the work, or in case of being for a client to offer exactly what the customer wants.

LabView among other things is a program to create user interfaces, for this we have palettes that we can use on the front panel (front that we sell to customers) but these are standard, ie, if designers rely solely on these controls and indicators we will always see panels with the same images and that can be boring to use a mild word.

It's just a few hours to fathers day and while I was preparing things to offer you a special edition customized article I remembered that I haven't taught you how to do it, so this article is for us to learn how to create original front panels with images customized to our tastes or those of a client.

>Los trabajos personalizados suelen ser mas apreciados porque añaden un valor extra a lo creado, en primer lugar permiten establecer diferencias entre dos diseños que realizan la misma función abriendo la posibilidad de tener diseños únicos y originales, en segundo lugar permiten que el creador pueda añadir algo de su propia esencia en la obra, o en caso de ser para un cliente ofrecerle exactamente lo que el cliente quiere.

>LabView entre otras cosas es un programa para crear interfaces de usuario, para ello tenemos paletas que podemos usar en el panel frontal (fachada que vendemos a los clientes) pero estos son estándares, es decir, si los diseñadores se basan únicamente en estos controles e indicadores siempre veremos paneles con las mismas imagenes y eso puede resultar aburrido por usar una palabra suave.

For purposes of the front panel what is customized are the controls and indicators, when we place any of these from the standard palette actually what we are using are images that change appearance according to the state of a signal.

What we do when we customize is to replace those images by the ones we want, if for example we are going to replace an LED this has two images, one for when it is on and another for when it is off, so we will need an image for each case and a change of state in the LED what it does is that it changes between an image and another one.

To create these custom controls and indicators is very simple and we do it with the same LabView, for it we have to create a Blank Project, not a VI but a Project and then navigate to find the option to create controls as the following image shows

>Para efectos del panel frontal lo que se personaliza son los controles e indicadores, cuando colocamos alguno de estos de la paleta estándar realmente lo que estamos usando son imágenes que cambian de apariencia segun el estado de una señal.

>Lo que hacemos al personalizar es reemplazar esas imágenes por las que nosotros queramos, si por ejemplo vamos a reemplazar un LED este tiene dos imágenes, una para cuando esta encendido y otra para cuando esta apagado, así que necesitaremos una imagen para cada caso y un cambio de estado en el LED lo que hace es que se cambie entre una imagen y otra.

>Crear estos controles e indicadores personalizados es muy sencillo y lo hacemos con el mismo LabView, para ello tenemos que crear un Blank Projec, no un VI sino un Project y luego navegar hasta encontrar la opción de crear controles como muestra la siguiente imagen

When we click on new, another window opens in which we must look for and select the option "Custom Control" and press ok to open the work window in which we are going to create our element.

>Al darle en new se nos abre otra ventana en la cual debemos buscar y seleccionar la opción "Custom Control" y presionar ok para que se abra la ventana de trabajo en la que vamos a crear nuestro elemento.

Having the pre-designed images what we do is drag it to the window, then we place the type of control or indicator that we want to modify and enable the edit option, we copy to the clipboard the image that we are going to replace and then selecting the element to modify we give paste, this will make the replacement. After we have modified the element we delete the images we dragged to modify it and leave only the customized element, then we save it in any folder with any name so that we can use it in any project we want.

>Luego de haber modificado el elemento borramos las imágenes que arrastramos para modificarlo y dejamos solo el elemento personalizado, entonces lo guardamos en cualquier carpeta con cualquier nombre de manera que podamos usarlo en cualquier proyecto que deseemos.

When we want to use it we only have to drag it to the front panel of any project in which we are working and it will be added automatically, also its corresponding block for the block diagram.

Below we can see how I have placed my DAY image that corresponds to the article I'm preparing for the FATHERS DAY, this behaves like a conventional LED only that instead of looking at the circle changing color we see the custom image.

>Cuando queramos usarlo solo tenemos que arrastrarlo al panel frontal de cualquier proyecto en el que estemos trabajando y se añadira automaticamente, tambien su bloque correspondiente para el diagrama de bloques.

>A continuación podemos ver como he colocado mi imagen DAY que corresponde al artículo que estoy preparando para el FATHERS DAY, este se comporta como un LED convencional solo que en lugar de mirar el circulo cambiando de color vemos la imagen personalizada.

Customization is essential for a clean and original front panel, for example if I want to represent two states of a valve using the standard palettes I would have to use circular or square LEDs, but if instead of using LEDs I can add the image of a valve and make it change color for each state the interface becomes more pleasant and representative.
