###### <center>Sin embargo, la ciencia ha señalado la ayuda que puede implicar tener mascotas en hogares donde hay niños con ***Trastornos del Espectro Autista***.</center>

### <center>El contacto con animales inteligentes</center>

El ser humano siempre se ha beneficiado del contacto con estos animales inteligentes que desarrollan sensibilidad y afecto hacia el hombre.

Los animales de compañía son maravillosos aliados, porque ofrecen una sensibilidad elevada y una fidelidad necesaria para fomentar relaciones afectivas profundas y fuertes.

*¿Han visto la alegría de un niño cuando recién se les regala o llega una mascota al hogar?*

Las mascotas pueden lograr establecer vínculos emocionales con los niños en forma más rápida que con cualquier otra situación, e incluso, con cualquier otro ser humano.

Y los niños con trastornos de espectro autista, que [según la OMS es uno de cada 100 niños en el mundo](https://www.who.int/es/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/autism-spectrum-disorders), no están exentos de vivir situaciones afectivas con ellas.

La ciencia ha demostrado que la conexión con el ser humano y los animales inteligentes propician entornos de disfrute y de desarrollo de habilidades cognitivas; de allí que existan terapias con caballos, con perros de asistencia y con delfines, que han sido altamente estudiadas.

### <center>Cientos de beneficios</center>

Hoy conocemos las llamadas [**Intervenciones Asistidas con Animales o IAA**](https://gemca.org/wordpress/intervenciones-asistidas-por-animales-una-herramienta-efectiva/), que son acciones con fines educativos, terapéuticos y lúdicos; y que tienen de base la interacción de estos animales inteligentes con el ser humano.

*El objetivo es obtener beneficio para los que necesitan beneficiarse de esto, porque sabemos que la salud y el bienestar animal, así como el del medio ambiente, están intrínsecamente relacionados.*

Estas intervenciones asistidas con animales mejoran la salud, la educación y la socialización, involucrando colectivos de profesionales como terapeutas, educadores y otros.

*Pero no necesariamente necesitamos para nuestros niños con TEA, de animales entrenados y de la asistencia terapéutica.*

El simple hecho de [tener una mascota](https://www.etapainfantil.com/mascotas-ninos-autismo) en el entorno mejora la relación del niño a nivel social; y se ha visto como las mascotas se convierten en compañeros incondicionales y fieles, capaces de vivir cualquier tipo de experiencia que el niño experimente.

Igualmente, hay aumento de la autoestima junto con la socialización, promoviendo independencia y seguridad en el niño.

Así, adiestrando al niño y a la mascota para una buena interacción de responsabilidad y cuidado, se mejorarán las capacidades y las habilidades de ambos y habrá una comprensión de pautas de comportamiento, así como una comunicación mucho más efectiva en ambos, mascotas y niños.

Para nuestros hijos, la reducción de los niveles de estrés no tiene precio, gracias a la disminución de la ansiedad; y las pautas de conducta adquiridas hacia el cuidado y la protección, tampoco.

Recuerda que las mascotas buscan ser acariciadas, tocadas; lo que ayudará al niño a ir formando en él las habilidades de hacerlo y se tranquilizará.

### <center>¿Elegimos la mascota ideal?</center>

Quiero dejar abierta la puerta al interés de considerarlo, plantearlo al médico o al terapeuta, discutirlo en familia y elegir cuál debe ser la mascota que mejor se llevaría con tu hijo.

Por supuesto que, los investigadores han señalado a los perros y [los gatos](https://www.lavanguardia.com/vivo/mascotas/20200926/483650389722/ninos-autismo.html) como los idóneos en eso de la compañía y el amor incondicional; pero ese puente que crea el animal entre los niños con autismo y el entorno, debe ayudar a proporcionar emociones positivas.

Sabemos que el niño es sensible a ruidos, movimientos rápidos y bruscos; y existen razas de perros, por ejemplo, que al ladrar pueden alterar la percepción.

Elegir una mascota depende de la sensibilidad, la sensación del tacto, la baja tolerancia al ruido y a los estímulos; por lo que, puede que no funcione para todos los niños.

### <center>El médico propone...</center>

Al final, nos vamos a dejar llevar por [los estudios](https://psicologiaymente.com/clinica/efectos-mascotas-ninos-autismo); y entender que es una buena decisión discutir la posibilidad de una mascota en casa.

Los beneficios psicomotores, como la mejoría de las destrezas motrices, la coordinación, la fuerza muscular y las habilidades de motricidad fina, no tienen comparación.

Pero también hay beneficios educativos, como reducción de conductas no deseadas, mejorar el contacto visual y, aumentar la comprensión y el seguimiento de instrucciones.

*Entonces, es una buena decisión.*

***Pero yo sugiero que incluyamos en esa decisión a los niños.***

Sugiero conjuntamente, que evaluemos el nivel de sensibilidad y la posibilidad de sobrecargas sensoriales; que la mascota tenga una actividad psicomotriz parecida a la del niño que la va a cuidar.

Y hay que ser realista, una mascota conlleva, como dije al principio, responsabilidades, gasto económico, cuidado y educación.

These animal-assisted interventions improve health, education and socialization, involving collectives of professionals such as therapists, educators and others.

Saludos @emiliorios gracias por traernos este tema tan relevante. He escuchado sobre los beneficios que traen los caballos para las personas con condiciones especiales, quizás no sea una mascota que la mayoría pueda tener en su casa pero la interaccion con ellos resulta muy favorable, a tal punto que se ha convertido en una terapia.

Saludos amigo,  definitivamente las mascotas son de gran ayuda para los niños y adultos también; dejar que el niño participe en la elección de su futura mascota es muy importante, pues le permite interactuar con ella y no será un agente extraño en casa.

Hace algún tiempo vi la película After Thomás,  la trama se centra en como un tierno y lindo perro ayudó al niño a socializar y convertirse en científico brillante.

Lo certifico, las mascotas causan un efecto terapéutico único y lo recomiendo a las familias que tienen hijos con autismo, pues aún con todos los gastos que puede implicar tener una mascota en casa, sigue siendo más económico que sesiones de equinoterapia o delfinoterapia. 

Estoy fascinada con esta edición de tu columna @emiliorios. Gracias, gracias. ¡Que belleza!

Si, amigo. Bueno una vez, solo una vez pude darle un regalo muy especial a mi hijo mayor, quien en ese entonces todavía era hijo único. El regalo fue una sesión de nado con delfines. Te imaginaras por qué solo fue un regalo de un día... 💵 💲 👀 

Pero su carita de felicidad valió el esfuerzo para ese regalo. Igualmente las mascotas no han faltado en casa y los chicos autistas que ya por naturaleza son nobles, pues más sentimientos bellos desarrollan, como por ejemplo la empatía.  Y como ya sabes, todos los demás beneficios que ellas dan.

Hola, @emiliorios. Siempre me ha llamado la atención este tema. Tuve hace tiempo a un niño autista que amaba a los animales, a todos...pero sólo podía estar con aquellos que eran silenciosos, únicamente. Le conocí tortugas y peces, ... recuerdo que cuando cumplió los 12 años admitió un gato.
