Muy buenas (espero que noches), gente de Hive. No soy partidario de la idea de que "ya no se hace buen cine de horror" y que todo lo bueno está en lo clásico. No estoy para nada de acuerdo, pero por esta vez, fingiré que sí. Por eso hoy quiero recomendarles tres de mis películas de horror preferidas, que espero puedan satisfacer a esas personas que buscan un estilo de horror más "profundo". Sal del mundo del *jumpscare* con estas tres películas que, con suerte, no te dejarán dormir bien esta noche.

La primera película de esta pequeña lista es probablemente la menos conocida de las tres. Su primicia va de un veterano de guerra quien está sufriendo de un desorden postraumático mientras intenta con todas sus fuerzas recuperar la normalidad en su vida. Aterrado y acosado por constantes alucinaciones e ideas conspiranóicas, el protagonista toma un camino tortuoso en busca de su sanidad mental.

Esta película es de los referentes más grandes del horror psicológico. El desarrollo de la misma, la forma en la que se desenvuelven los sucesos, la ambientación y el aura extraña que hay alrededor de los personajes, generan una ansiedad y confusión en el protagonista que se te va a contagiar y vas a encontrarte en la misma paranoia y desorientación del protagonista.

Una de las cosas más impactantes de esta película, es su estética. Jacob's Ladder es probablemente de las primeras películas que fundaron la estética del cine de horror relacionado con la locura y la psiquiatría. Ojo, muchas películas ya habían tratado el horror psicológico antes, lo que hace diferente a Jacob's Ladder es la forma de utilizar la ambientación y los escenarios claustrofóbicos, esos mismos que solemos ver en las típicas escenas de personajes siendo llevados por manicomios llenos de personas extrañas y cosas inquietantes.

Possession es una película francesa muy densa y psicológica que sigue la trama de una pareja que comienza a venirse abajo, cuando el marido llega de viajes de trabajo y encuentra a su mujer actuando de manera extraña y huidiza. El hombre comenzará a sospechar de una infidelidad, adoptando una actitud agresiva, investigará esta posible infidelidad, pero lo que le espera será algo mucho peor. Su mujer comenzará a actuar de manera cada vez más extraña y psicótica y descubrirá que detrás de todo esto, hay fuerzas siniestras más allá de la comprensión humana.

Estrenada en 1997, dirigida por [David Lynch](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lynch), protagonizada por [Bill Pullman](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Pullman), [Patricia Arquette](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patricia_Arquette) y [Balthazar Getty](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balthazar_Getty) y distribuida por [October Films](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_Films). Lost Highway es probablemente la película más difícil de seguir de esta lista, no es muy de extrañar, conociendo al director, quien es popular por crear películas surreales, con tramas fragmentadas y no-lineales que pueden dejar al espectador muy confundido. La historia es un poco complicada de explicar, pero esta sigue Fred Madison, un saxofonista que comienza a recibir extraños mensajes en el teléfono de su casa, cassettes de vídeo que llegan de la nada a la puerta de su casa y otros eventos extraños, como el encuentro con un misterioso hombre de rostro pálido. Al llegar a su casa un día, encuentra un cassette que contiene una grabación sin sentido de sí mismo asesinando a su esposa, Fred será arrestado y sentenciado a muerte. Lost Highway is probably the hardest film to follow on this list, not too surprising, knowing the director, who is popular for creating surreal films, with fragmented and non-linear plots that can leave the viewer very confused. The story is a bit complicated to explain, but it follows Fred Madison, a saxophonist who begins to receive strange messages on his home phone, video cassettes arriving out of nowhere at his front door, and other strange events, such as an encounter with a mysterious pale-faced man. Arriving home one day to find a cassette containing a bizarre recording of himself murdering his wife, Fred will be arrested and sentenced to death. While locked up, he will begin to have strong nightmares and hallucinations, but nothing is what it seems.

Aún con su compleja y extraña narrativa, Lost Highway sabe crear un ambiente increíblemente tenso a través del uso de situaciones incómodas y silencios que dan potencia a la sensación de suspenso generada por los constantes sucesos extraños y comportamientos erráticos de los personajes. Aunque es probable que viendo esta película te sientas perdido, Lost Highway funciona de la misma manera que una pesadilla, a simple vista son más bien pocas las cosas que tienen sentido, pero esto contribuye mucho a la confusión constante de esta película y es esto lo que lo hace tan terrorífico. Déjate llevar por el surrealismo de esta película y tal vez luego tengas que revisitarla si quieres *entenderla* (buena suerte, ni yo mismo estoy seguro de entenderla).

> Even with its complex and strange narrative, Lost Highway manages to create an incredibly tense atmosphere through the use of awkward situations and silences that enhance the sense of suspense generated by the constant strange occurrences and erratic behavior of the characters. Although it is likely that watching this film you will feel lost, Lost Highway works in the same way as a nightmare, in the first watch there are rather few things that make sense, but this contributes a lot to the constant confusion of this film and this is what makes it so terrifying. Loose yourself to the surrealism of this film and you may have to revisit it later if you want to *understand* it (good luck, I'm not sure I understand it myself).
