Moving Beyond Thoughts and Prayers

We all woke up this morning to the news of yet another unbelievable act of violence against innocent people. This makes two mass shootings in two days. To say gun violence is out of control is an understatement. In fact, there have been [more mass shootings here in the United States than days in 2019](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/there-have-been-more-mass-shootings-than-days-in-2019/), let that sink in for a moment.  

**Will it get worse before it gets better?**

I ask myself a single question nearly every day. As an American, for the first time in my life, I find myself thinking about the very real possibility of myself or a member of my family becoming a random shooting victim at large public gatherings like a State fair, festival, concert, or sporting event. This is one of the many reasons I’ve been seriously considering becoming an Expat for the past few years. Hope has always prevented me from acting upon that consideration. 

Recent headlines will insure that gun control will be a hot campaign issue in the months leading to the 2020 US Presidential election. It’s important to research and understand each candidates’ plans for getting this (and many other) problem(s) under control. Equally as important is drilling down to the root cause of why these heinous acts of violence keep occurring in numbers that dwarf any other country in the developed world.

At this point we need much more than thoughts and prayers and fits of outrage on social media. We need action. Social media has become a very dangerous safety release valve that allows us to expend our emotional outrage before it becomes fuel to spark any kind of real action. Each American needs to do their due diligence, vote for candidates whose promises align with their values, and then hold those politicians accountable for delivering on their promises.

Like everywhere I’ve traveled in the world I still believe a majority of Americans are decent people. If we’re guilty of anything it's this...we’re guilty of allowing ourselves to become distracted, manipulated, and misled. We’ve fallen asleep at the wheel and woken up in a ditch. 2020 presents us with another opportunity to take a different path. We very much need to work to make sure our elected officials reflect the decency of the majority. 

Will it get worse before it gets better? I guess the better question is how much violence, greed, corruption, and lawlessness will it take before Americans are willing to demand and fight for change?

This post is exactly why nothing can be done.

To be held accountable, one needs some authority.

The problem here is that authority has been stripped.
A person, knowing there is a bad person out there, killing people, cannot legally do anything about it.

It doesn't matter that we still have the 2nd amendment, our rights to defend ourselves have been stripped.

Such as, it appears, and we will see as more evidence is brought to light, that these two shootings were done by the same group of people.  A group of people that fly around in a C-130.

So, what can we do?  Nothing, we are fucked.
Unless you want to hold a black budget portion of the govern-cement accountable.

And, how would you hold it accountable?
If you stir up enough fuss, they will drag someone in front of congress who will just lie through their teeth.

So, how would you hold it accountable?

You want to shut down this group of pedos.

What do you need?

Answer: A small army.

What you will find is a lot of tunnels with mercenaries ordered to kill at all choke points.  You will find tunnels wired to blow.  You will meet resistance at every turn.

These "people" aren't playing around.

So, what do you do?  Go onto social media and keep pointing out pedo related news.  Until people like Hitlery get such a bad name that he can't show his face anywhere.

I always appreciate your perspective. As a writer, the best I can do is use my platform to start a dialogue that hopefully provides a spark that ignites people to examine things more deeply and maybe take some action. I don't feel it's my job to suggest solutions. People need to come up with their own versions of how to correct our course. We already have way too many entities trying to tell us what and how to think. 

I realize the inaction of the citizens here in the US isn't all due to apathy. A large part of it is people feel as if the system is so broken that nothing they do can make a difference, especially after the farce of the 2016 Presidential election that revealed the depth of corruption on both sides of the aisle. I suspect many now wonder, even if it's subconsciously...Do we have a shred of a Democracy left?

That said, the depth of darkness and evil in the version of the world you describe is not one I'm prepared to believe just yet. Maybe it's true but I hope it's not. Disinformation has infiltrated the world to such a degree that it's nearly impossible to sort out the truth from the lies these days. For each and every point there's an equally believable counterpoint. 

This is an incredibly precarious place to be. All it takes is someone with enough charisma to convince people to do whatever they wish. 

Rebuilding society from the ground up in a decentralized manner is the only way out I can envision.

The answer is pretty clear, the trick is getting the majority of Americans to ignore the minority and just get on with some sensible gun laws.

Unfortunately many Americans view gun control as the start of some diabolical conspiracy.

Plus are we all going to ignore the Trump-like rhetoric of the El Paso shooter? Trump is inspiring these lunatics with his divisive and at times overtly racist language and insinuation.

Right, in every country where there are more guns there is more violence. The global stats show an undeniable correlation.  

Sensible gun laws would be a good first step as @gikitiki mentioned:

Trump, and many other extremist politicians, are playing a dangerous game. They're inciting fear and hatred to garner votes. They're giving this younger generation who, honestly, don't have much chance of having anywhere near as good of a life as their parents lived something to rally behind. It's sad on so many levels.

Hi Eric, just like you I am also very opposed to every form of terror in our lives. Mass shootings are usually carried out by people whose souls are unstable. I have also often heard that in your country mass shootings occur. in my opinion the cause is because of the ease of getting firearms in the US. The government should tighten possession of weapons in your country. Have a nice day, Sir.

I think a lot of us early adopters realize the potential of distributed ledger technology but we face the issue of educating the public about this. Every one of us are helping to educate those around us on some level. A  vast majority still know nothing about it beyond Bitcoin. It's frustrating how slowly it's seeping into the public's consciousness. I think the problems we face are so dire that we must try to facilitate change from the inside out within the current constructs first. This will buy us time to build a transparent decentralized framework to replace a system that is clearly not working for a majority of us and also to get it on the public's radar. It's very exciting to see how quickly the tech is progressing but I'm afraid it's going to be a marathon. This will be the seed our generation plants so that future generations will enjoy the fruit. I hope I live long enough to see it in action.

A relatively easy step is limit the number of rounds in a clip/magazine to 10 (for civilians).  When the assailant reloads (Pros can reload in <2 seconds 🙁)  It gives others a chance for fight/flight. 

This still allows for 9 extra rounds in the weapon than was possible when the amendment was signed.   So “everybody” wins 🤔

One thing I understand about people is that there's a lot of talking and no serious actions really. In my perspective mass Killing is something we are sometimes too afraid to address and because of this it thrive, in my country mass killing is rampant but well the possession of weapon is something we haven't even really targeted. It's a huge Shame
