Think of something like steempeak for feed visuals, but where authors get to decide how their posts are seen instead of everyone else. - Is your blog appropriately formated for photographs? Previews should always include huge thumbnails. - Do you only post simple thoughts or one-liners to communicate, not caring about upvotes? Previews should always be very compact. But it's not just about the formatting. As an author, you should be able to select users whose comments should never show up to anyone. You know, like this guy who keeps spamming religious crap:

Who wants to make serious content but still be forced to expose shit like this in their comment section? Noone, that's who. --- It's embarassing when we try to share our posts with non-steem people like friends and family because there are a lot of comments unrelated to the content itself, such as bot spam, angry trolls and even curation group messages. These types of comments are always very confusing to those who are unware of how our blockchain works. As a crypto earner, it is important to us. To the mass public? It is a huge negative. There are already plenty of steem gateways where content is never censored. Data can still be looked up in the chain's history, so there is never an actual transparency problem. The closest we have to any of this is @engrave, but it lacks many of the control features mentioned above. --- Even if steemit was originally designed as a very diverse posting platform, people in power always made the shittiest decisions. Our posts become mandatorily extensive. Not only because we want upvotes and most big curation groups simply obeyed these unwritten rules, but because we can get downvoted to oblivion if we don't follow such rules. We are disencouraged from posting whatever we want because reading greyed out posts is terribly annoying. Why would we post at all, then? It's not like these unsaid instructions ever worked. Without the freedom of being able to post whatever original contentt we want (even if it's just one-liners), steem becomes unattractive unless, coincidentally, we actually already wanted to post in the way power people want us to do. As a result to all of this (lack of control for the author and overpowered governance taking crappy decisions), we have people who won't bother posting on steem, we have authors who don't want to share their content with people who aren't already on steem and we have shit presentation for outsiders.

Steemit's ratio of content creators to content readers is too high. There was something about successful social networks having a ratio of 1:4 or something like that.

I totally agree and that's the reason why I'm working on a "blocked commenters" feature at Engrave. It should be available soon. What more would you like to see at Engrave?

Blog author tools such as easily filtering which individual posts should or should not appear on the blog, instead of picking whole categories. Well, ideally we should get both options. And we should be able to change them on the fly later on if we change our mind about it. Do not enforce "blocked accounts from commenting" to all blocked users on steem. I would not like to see comments on the engrave blog from, say, opgaming (because it wouldn't make sense to non-steemians), but I would hate to block them on steem as a whole. So make that feature entirely separated from blocked users on steem. Optional integration with some form of cryptopayment and paypal donation / sponsor where we can input custom text to tell the person what their money is for. Kind of like a patreon box. Maybe a patron embed, yeah. Display comments from steem, guests and other sign-in platforms like facebook and instagram... But without any apparent separation to the blog visitor. Make an option to hide things related to steem payouts. If hiding them is not enabled, include a "?" icon visitors can mouse hover. A tooltip shows up telling them how that post or comment is earning because that person is a steem user. Offer steem registration unrelated to steemit.com and a free 20 SP delegation to new users.
