Indian Telcos Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Bharati Airtel, and BSNL are moving swiftly to complete deployments of a blockchain based solution in the telecom space which will provide respite to subscribers from spammers and pesky callers. 

Nearly a billion subscribers are said to be impacted by this deployment going into effect in the days to follow. They are rolling out this tech in partnership with Tanla Solutions and Tech Mahindra respectively according to a reports in [ET](https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/how-vodafone-idea-jio-airtel-bsnl-executing-worlds-largest-blockchain-use-case-to-curb-pesky-calls-sms/69506143)

The deployment is being done as per the guidelines issues by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) who has set the regulations to enforce this by end of the month. It will protect users from unsolicited commercial phone calls, SMS and other spam calls.

According to TRAI's data Vodafone Idea have about 395 million users, while Airtel has about 325 million users and Jio has about 307 million. If you include BSNL's numbers it's likely to be well over a billion easily.

>Vodafone Idea has signed a multi-year contract with Tanla Solutions to deploy the technology, along with a regulatory sandbox and production platform. “The deployment is underway and it will help in arresting spam and fraud-related commercial communications for Vodafone Idea subscribers,” a Tanla spokesperson told ET. 

It is also known now that Tanla has been helping Airtel for the implementation of this network. However, at this point in time IBM remains the bigger vendor for the technology in India.

>The SLT or Blockchain based fabric will enable telcos to have a clear and transparent information related to ecosystem players like soliciting entities, message aggregators, subscriber consent data and lifecycle event dates among others. Any complaints and messages received can be resolved in a very short time as compared to a very cumbersome and largely opaque current state process.

This is a fantastic move from the telcos in India to improve the experience of their subscribers pan-India. Despite activating DND (Do Not Disturb) everyone including myself have to deal with spam calls on a regular basis.
