<div class="text-justify">For me, music soothes the soul and you are proof that without speaking the same language, we can connect with the lyrics or melodies we listen to.</div><br>

<div class="text-justify">Today I want to talk about three songs that I used to sing when I was a child without any kind of malice or double meaning but today I say wao! how much content is exposed. Without further ado, here are my top 3 songs that have implicit social content.</div><br>

Para mí, la música alivia el alma y ustedes son muestra que sin hablar el mismo idioma, podemos conectar con las letras o melodías que escuchamos.
Hoy quiero hablar de tres canciones que cantaba de pequeña sin ningún tipo de malicia o doble sentido pero que hoy digo ¡Wao! cuanto contenido expuesto. Sin más rodeos, aquí esta mi top 3 de canciones que tienen contenido social implicito.</div><br>

**Blanca- Vico C f&t Josie Esteban**

Inicio con esta canción porque cuando estaba en colegio, tenía grupos de todos los estilos: rockeros, salseros, románticos, y música de mi región por nombrar algunos. Existían unos grupos que escuchaban rap, pero era mal visto por sus letras, sin embargo, esta canción era con un ritmo de merengue y fue bien aceptado.

Jamás alguien me explicó que significaba o lo que envolvía cada letra de la canción, solo que en las fiestas la evitaban cuando había niños o no la cantaban como otras canciones que estaban también de moda en ese momento.

Hoy por hoy, puedo entender que era un tema tabú como la droga. Blanca, yo pensaba que como toda historia, era una chica que Vico C se enamoró y le pagó mal _" Blanca tu eres mala y nuestro amor tendrá que terminar"_ ¿Cómo una niña entendería de drogas? de repente otros sí, pero yo no.

Lidiar con el tema de las adicciones es muy complejo, pero el rapero ya había pasado por eso y estaba describiendo las etapas de su enfermedad: primero la negación, luego el arrepentimiento (a veces muy tarde) y luego la recuperación. Hablan dos hombres, uno desde la experiencia y otro pensando que tiene todo controlado con "su amor por Blanca".

Es una canción reflexiva, quizás que podríamos evitar desde la prevención, hablando con nuestros niños y jóvenes de los peligros de las drogas. Realizar actividades de esparcimiento, enseñar valores en casa y estar atentos sobre cambios en el comportamiento, son algunas de las medidas que podemos tomar para ayudar a nuestros jóvenes cuando estan en una época de querer conocer y porbar todo, ayudemos a que prueben ¡TODO LO BUENO!

I start with this song because when I was in school, I had bands of all styles: rock, salsa, romantic, and music from my region to name a few. There were some groups that listened to rap, but it was frowned upon because of their lyrics, however, this song was with a merengue rhythm and it was well accepted.

No one ever explained to me what it meant or what was involved in the lyrics of the song, only that at parties they avoided it when there were children or did not sing it like other songs that were also fashionable at that time.

Today, I can understand that it was a taboo subject like drugs. Blanca, I thought that like any other story, it was a girl that Vico C fell in love with and paid her badly _" Blanca you are bad and our love will have to end"_ How could a girl understand drugs, maybe others do, but not me.

Dealing with the issue of addiction is very complex, but the rapper had already been through it and was describing the stages of his illness: first denial, then regret (sometimes too late) and then recovery. Two men speak, one from experience and the other thinking he has it all under control with "his love for Blanca".

It is a reflective song, perhaps one that we could avoid through prevention, talking to our children and young people about the dangers of drugs. Leisure activities, teaching values at home and being aware of changes in behaviour are some of the measures we can take to help our young people when they are in a time of wanting to know and try everything, let's help them try EVERYTHING GOOD!

**Celoso- La chicas del Can**

En mi infancia también estaba de moda una agrupación de chicas. Ellas eran dominicanas y hasta el presente siguen cantando sus éxitos. Había una canción que se llamaba "Juana la cubana" y que resaltaba el sabor y soltura que destacaba en las caderas caribeñas (envidias de muchas tratando de imitarlas hasta hoy).

Por eso, era normal tener un disco en casa que trajera sus canciones, y era normal escuchar Celoso. 

Cuando estaba escuchando decía: "_Un día me llevó a la discoteca y celoso me dio 3 galleta´"_ Si le dio tres galletas, ¿Por qué se fue? 

La violencia de género es algo que sigue vigente y poco hablado. Los hombres violentos o "celosos" los romantizamos detrás del " me cela porque me quiere", "es verdad, debes respetarlo haciendo lo que él te diga", o peor aún: "aguanto por los niños". Nada mas alejado de la realidad cuando actualmente somos mujeres que hemos ganado tanto terreno en lo laboral, económico, político, social, etc.

Tenemos derecho a equivocarnos, porque la misma canción dice cuando se conocieron fue muy lindo, amable y la trataba como una reina y eso nos gusta. El problema esta, cuando comienza a tener conductas de control, limitación y vulnerar lo que somos, nos comportamos o relacionamos al punto de cambiar nuestra cotidianidad, grupos sociales e incluso contacto con el exterior.

Es una canción que mantengo vigente de lo que ´JAMÁS permitiría en mi relación de pareja y saldría de inmediato al ver algún tipo de acción que vaya en contra de mis principios y lo que soy.

**Jealous - The Can Girls**

In my childhood there was also a girl group in fashion. They were Dominican and to this day they still sing their hits. There was a song called "Juana la cubana" which highlighted the flavour and ease that stood out in the Caribbean hips (envy of many trying to imitate them to this day).

So it was normal to have a record at home with her songs on it, and it was normal to listen to Celoso. 

When he was listening he would say: "_One day he took me to the disco and Jealous gave me 3 biscuits'"_ If he gave him three biscuits, why did he leave? 

Gender-based violence is something that is still very much alive and little talked about. Violent or "jealous" men are romanticised behind the "he's jealous because he loves me", "it's true, you must respect him by doing what he tells you", or even worse: "he supports you". Nothing could be further from the truth when we are now women who have gained so much ground in the labour, economic, political, social and other fields.

We have the right to be wrong, because the same song says that when they met he was very nice, kind and treated her like a queen and we like that. The problem is when they start to control and limit our behaviour, limiting and violating what we are, how we behave and how we relate to each other, to the point of changing our daily lives, social groups and even our contact with the outside world.

It is a song that I keep in force of what I would 'NEVER allow in my relationship and I would leave immediately when I see some kind of action that goes against my principles and who I am.

**Que canten los niños- Bonny Cepeda**

Otra canción que me gusta y que entendí su significado mucho tiempo después, fue esta de los niños. Es una canción que tocó mi fibra y aún se me aguan los ojos, al escuchar que niños como yo que no entienden de guerras, de conflictos, de diferencias, solo dedicados a jugar y ser felices, entonces tengan que estar pidiendo "no más guerras, no más drogas, no más hambre, no más muertes" ¿Qué nos pasa como adultos? nosotros debemos ser los protectores de su unión, amor, crecimiento y felicidad en  bienestar.

En la canción, había un espacio en blanco sobre los niños de Cuba ¡Y yo no sabía quién era Fidel! A esa edad, tuve que preguntar e indagar que estaba haciendo con ellos. Aún recuerdo mis lágrimas cuando me enteré que eran niños que no sabían que era un teléfono o una televisión por cable (tan normal en nuestros países), simplemente me partía el corazón.

Además, darse cuenta que todos los niños ¡Clamaban! por los mismo: más escuelas, más trabajo, más amor y más unión ¿Que tan difícil puede ser? Sin duda el contenido social de la canción llegó al punto de ser suspendida en algunos sitios porque a los gobiernos no les interesa que les digan las verdades.

**Let the children sing - Bonny Cepeda**

Another song that I like and that I understood its meaning a long time later, was this one about the children. It is a song that touched my heartstrings and my eyes still water when I hear that children like me who do not understand wars, conflicts, differences, only dedicated to play and be happy, then have to be asking for "no more wars, no more drugs, no more hunger, no more deaths". What happens to us as adults? We should be the protectors of their union, love, growth and happiness in wellbeing.

In the song, there was a blank space about the children of Cuba and I didn't know who Fidel was! At that age, I had to ask and find out what he was doing with them. I still remember my tears when I found out that they were children who didn't know what a telephone or cable TV was (so normal in our countries), it just broke my heart.

Also, to realise that all the children were crying out for the same things: more schools, more work, more love and more togetherness - how hard can it be? No doubt the social content of the song reached the point of being suspended in some places because governments are not interested in being told the truth.

# <center>Conclusion</center>

<div class="text-justify">I don't like to compare whether the previous era was better or whether the ltras had content, I just like to know that for some time now, issues have been named and worked on through music and its lyrics in order to reflect and take action.</div><br>

<div class="text-justify">I am a believer that we cannot ignore our realities and through rhythms we can reach more people with messages of solidarity, union, sharing experiences and changing lives.</div><br>

A mí no me gusta comparar si la época anterior era mejor o si las letras tenían contenido, solo me gusta saber que desde hace tiempo, se vienen nombrando y trabajando temas a través de la música y sus letras para reflexionar y tomar acciones.
Yo soy creyente que no podemos obviar nuestras realidades y mediante los ritmos podemos llegar a mas personas con mensajes de solidaridad, unión, de compartir experiencias y cambiar vidas. 
Gracias siempre por el espacio y que no mueran los creadores de música con propósito, creanme que a alguien ayuda y despierta de la realidad.</div><br>
