Not Wanted – Drop in the Ocean -- Abandoned

https://i.imgur.com/lb69k5t.jpg

Not Wanted

Have you ever abandoned something? How about someone? How about an idea, or a particular stance on some subject that you used to care about? Some goal you once were determined to conquer and then conveniently “forgot” about?

Have you abandoned your “bad” self or some undesirable trait within you that you finally got hold of and eliminated? Have you abandoned hope for a better world, or that a Starbucks will open less than a block away from you?

There are probably very few of us who could honestly say we have never abandoned *anything.* Our world is full of abandoned buildings, machinery, factories, cars, buses, oil rigs, playgrounds, *relationships* - and just about anything else we can think of.

https://steemitimages.com/DQmW54RCQuaGYPCXZ437SEHE9p8R96VH55zUNmRw2xsdUcr/8.png

https://i.imgur.com/NAw65B4.jpg

It seems to be inherent in some of us to just abandon things where they sit, whenever we don’t want them anymore. Some of us feel that if we don’t want that old clunker that hasn’t run for years, abandoning it in the backyard and letting it rust away is the way to handle it, (and cheaper too). Abandonment is sort of an unofficial, money-saving “entitlement” that we all can make use of.

https://i.imgur.com/gReo2Dc.jpg

Corporations must also have access to enjoy this entitlement, since a corporation is just another “citizen.” And boy, do they use and abuse it! When they abandon something, they always leave a big mess that no one can afford to get rid of, so it just sits there, getting worse, as it assumes the status of slowly deteriorating eyesore.

Why, we even have bridges and sections of highway that were only partly built and then abandoned for some unknown reason.

https://steemitimages.com/DQmW54RCQuaGYPCXZ437SEHE9p8R96VH55zUNmRw2xsdUcr/8.png

Engaging in abandonment may be one of our favorite actions as humans. It’s so easy! And cost effective! Those losers who claim to have some sort of inner voice that says abandonment isn’t right, have abandoned their right to speak out in judgment of those of us who make use of the right to abandon things, so we should ~~bully~~ urge their friends to unfollow, and possibly even doxx them on social media!

Maybe the mockery above goes a bit overboard in describing reactions to a slightly overlooked and greatly ignored problem which no one seems to ever talk about, unless you live in a subdivision ruled by an HOA, a Home Owners Association.

The HOAs of the world actually seem to be the only ones around anymore, who are strongly against people abandoning things in their neighborhoods. They can be a real pain and will fine you over and over for abandoning stuff outside, until you get rid of it. The HOA will also fine you for lots of other “infractions” too.

https://i.imgur.com/ZaSvUBy.jpg

This type of community (HOA governed) is generally full of people who think that just abandoning things is wrong, so they deserve credit for being concerned about the problem. Believe me; a serial abandoner would not stand a chance living in an HOA managed community, if they are unable to refrain from satisfying their abandoning fetish.

But since the number of homeowners controlled by HOAs represents a very small minority overall, (compared to the number of communities that ignore open abandonment), there isn’t much hope for getting control over the act of abandoning things.

https://steemitimages.com/DQmW54RCQuaGYPCXZ437SEHE9p8R96VH55zUNmRw2xsdUcr/8.png

Of course there are worse types of abandonment than abandoning things. There are those who abandon their dog or cat because they don’t want it anymore, and it’s too much trouble to take care of. But what’s really sad is that there are those among us who abandon their own children, sometimes because the kids are simply a “drag” on their lifestyle of continuous partying.

If you’re a person, being abandoned is not a good thing. It means you were not worth keeping. It means someone has dropped you off, and then continued on their way with everyone except you. The word, abandoned, has a negative connotation in most cases.

The only time “abandoned” implies a positive outcome, is when we’ve abandoned something that’s had a negative influence on us and our growth as a person. Then it’s describing something very positive.

O this is something I just cannot understand = how people can abandon animals or people. I have two cats that just pitched up because somebody just left them behind....... I honestly do not understand how these people can live with themselves. Very good post - resteeming.

Thanks! I agree with you on this. I even have to change the channel when they have the PSAs on TV where the animals that are treated so badly, left outside in the freezing cold with no protection, hungry... it's heartbreaking to see. People that do this must have no empathy whatsoever.

Oh what a great topic here my friend.
We work at the coal face of abandonment at our charity.
None care abandonment that is. A mother with 5 small kids and the father has just disappeared.
I can quote hundreds of abandonment stories here but not enough space.
Then there is also such a thing as forced abandonment.
Bankruptcy in the business sector, worked out mines, partnership breakups, divorces, illnesses and many more reasons.
However, planning must always include restitution. Maybe governments can enforce a law to set funds aside for restoration purposes?
As far as the poor animals are concerned, there are many sick people in societies that do not care a hoot for their animals.
Blessings!

Does your charity aide children only, or also separated mothers? It has to be rough to be so close to the broken, who are in need of help when they'd have nowhere to turn if it weren't for your charity.

People in governments worldwide are corrupt, so there's been little chance any funds set aside would go anywhere but in their pockets. There could be some hope, but I don't know. We'll have to see how fed up the people have gotten.

Blessings to you, and thanks for stopping by!

Thank you and we have been fighting for survival for 18 years now my friend, since I founded The Papillon Foundation in 2002.
I don't know if you are on Facebook, as we have a charity page on there.
We also have a website and if you are interested I can send you the links.
Have a good Friday my friend.

Hope you cut your grass this week or the HOA will fine you. I may had the wrong word but they work so well together so I am abandoning the regret for having written about despondency instead.

Fair point though on the buildings and things I think it is a cool idea to have corporations who can't find buyers for their factories etc then dismantle them and restore the area as close to original state as possible.

There's actually a city official where I live, that comes out to warn people for un-mowed lawns, but I forget what their department is called. Exactly. You can discuss your use of despondent, so I don't really see any reason for regret anyway. :) Thanks for the tip!

I can understand abandoning bad habits but not your animals. It is each person responsibility to make sure their animals are cared for, not left to fend for themselves by being dumped in unfamiliar territory.
The nearby town is quite strict on junk like old cars being left around personal property and the by-law officer will pay a visit to get the yard cleaned up.

I've always loved Joni's songs and her voice, which is so perfect! Of course, after reading your comment, I had to pull her up and listen to this and a couple other of her songs. :)

Great read. I'm glad it wasn't focused solely on an abandoned animal. I see enough of strays running my neighborhood.

Abandoning is a serious thing when I think about it. Walking away after a level of investment is probably a good skill to get right whether you are in a poker game of business.

Neat line of thinking and view into HOAs

Haha! It makes me think back to some winning poker hands I've abandoned over a bluff, and I'm ashamed to say that I also still own shares in a couple of stocks I should have abandoned long ago!

The HOA bit proves there's some good in everything, I guess!
