My other helper friend, who normally does washing windows with me, had offered to come and process onions on Saturday morning. So we went out and got the remaining Kabocha squash and cleaned them to cure for storage.

Then we got all the remaining Walla Walla Sweet onions out of the ground. We got a surprise when we cut into the first few. Apparently they had been damaged by previous light frosts and instead of being a straight forward chopping job, it became salvage what we could.

I had at least 50 onions, and I had thought I’d only need a few more chopped for the freezer. But earlier Saturday morning I had made an extensive shopping list and while I was in the freezer, I checked how many onions I had. I had 7 packages left! So I planned to chop about 30 cups more of the onions. 

Because I had so many onions I had offered the extras on BuyNothing. I would not be able to give away as many as I hoped to each person. But it was what it was.

I would be snipping onions greens to freeze as “green onions/scallions”. I would need about 15 half cup packages. Just as I got started the phone rang.

It was my husband and he had been in the worst pain yet since the night before. So I got on the phone and located people and got them motivated to alleviate the pain. I was very successful and within an hour he was out of pain and in the best sleep he’d had in weeks. The care has improved dramatically since then.

So I spent the morning fielding phone calls and trying to get onion greens processed and onions out the door to BuyNothing people. My help continued chopping and we ended up with 33 packages of chopped onion and 14 packages of onion greens in the freezer.

I had 20 minutes to get ready to go shopping with my husband’s cousin. She took the photos of the fairy, Dennis the Girl, and the pumpkins. We ended up taking our Subaru as it was bigger than hers.

When we get back she not only unloaded the car, but carried all the extra things I had gotten downstairs to the cellar.

We had gotten a bag of feed for the chickens and we took it to the barn to put away. She was happy to see Dennis the Girl, one of our spirit cats. Dennis, as you can see, was less happy and disappeared.

And the little girls sent in 9 eggs, having reached 50% Rate of Lay. Finally Saturday was over.

Sunday was to be moving the chicken pen and hay.
