 A God opened his eyes that day that was lost in time. He raised his hand and spun the Wheel of Fortune.    That majestic gesture started a movement that traveled through millennia, touching millions and millions of people, who infected each other in a maelstrom of lucky acts.

Aleia never tried to understand how she was lucky enough to find that little subway ticket protector on the side of the road, while she waited disconsolately for the bus to take her home.  She did not remember that she was crestfallen, sad and worried to death, because in a week's time the mortgage on the house she had pawned to care for her mother's illness would expire.   Inside the protector, in addition to two tikets, she found the lottery ticket that had won the afternoon's draw... 
 

On the other side of the city, Andres was reviewing in his memory how he lost the protector with the lottery ticket, of which he only remembered the last three numbers. Watching the rebroadcast of the drawing he wondered if at that moment he could have won a large sum of money. He would never know. 

He talked about it at dinner.  His children, two beautiful teenagers, made a joke out of the comment, fantasizing about what they would have liked to have bought with the money. Cristine touched his hand warmly. 

"I hope it's true that with that lost ticket you could have won the jackpot, honey. And God willing it was found by someone who really needs it badly," said the woman.  

In another part of the world Patrick was waiting for Ariza at the entrance of a park.   With the sight of the cars moving the young man was lost in a daydream.    

 Patrick saw himself driving a luxurious convertible car. Next to him, in the passenger seat, was Claudia, as attractive as ever, with her long hair flowing over her shoulders. The woman was giving him a big smile.  

"Do you daydream?" 

The question came from behind her back, wrapped in the giggles of the girl who covered her eyes with both hands as she placed a kiss on his cheek. 

"Do you dream of me, love?" 

Patrick just smiled, not trying to wriggle out of the childish game. On the contrary, he breathed deeply as if his whole body was registering that purest moment of pleasure. He savored the feeling he had and knew that Ariza definitely brightened up his life with the vitality of her behavior, with the spontaneous demonstration of her affection and with her tendency to do things always in a different way.   

Then he wondered, seriously, why he was daydreaming about the most luxurious car and Claudia.   Patrick was a good boy.  He resolved his conflict by entrusting it to fate.     He did not know that on the eighth floor of a nearby building Claudia was crying.  

After rejecting many suitors Claudia had finally agreed to live in a relationship with Peter.   Today she was learning that the man was not getting divorced, as he had promised her, but was continuing in their marital relationship. A good friend had forwarded her, from a social network, the pictures of the recent anniversary celebration.  In them she saw Peter happy, toasting, hugging his wife, posing with his children, surrounded by family and friends.  The full happiness of Peter's wife was the same size of Claudia's unhappiness.   

"She is not pretty! How can Peter prefer her?  " That was the question that at that moment tore at her soul.

 From infinity, the gods look amused at men. Some smiling with wanton happiness, others exulting after having achieved the fortune of a goal.  They see those who are unhappy for undesirable causes.  To these the gods consider them to send their graces. They dismiss as impossible causes those who are definitely unfortunate by their own will.   With a glance they recognize those lost in their fatuous quests. To these the gods will give time to live. 


 They have the ability to look at the past, the present and the future. They can look in unison at the four cardinal points.  At will they turn the sphere to peer through ice and snow. To watch a hunter, in the middle of the hot jungle, kill an unfortunate straggler.  They enjoy, in the frenetic pace of the big cities, the face of beggars when they find an intact piece of garbage in a garbage can. Above all, they enjoy watching the misfortunes of kings.   

The planet is, for them, a theater stage, a game, a board where to combine scenes, characters and times.    Four eternal and winged signs rule the board, evil and intelligence move around the sphere in the center of which the unpronounceable name of each of them, the great gods, is imagined.  

They know that there is something incomprehensibly strange in the enigmatic human existence. That is why within their divine reach is always the wheel.
