# DISCLAIMER: *VERY*       NEW TO THIS

Well, this is I guess my first documented urban exploration. I have been obsessed with the concept for years; but due to transportation issues in my past I have had very few opportunities to access some of the places I would have liked to. That, in addition to the lack of a companion; which I did start to see as a safety issue after a little bit of myself poking around. 

So, in the past, I have satisfied most of my URBEX desires by watching hundreds of hours of YouTube videos of oftenly-annoying explorers going to some really cool places; with absurd click-bait as the title. Don't get me wrong; we all gotta eat! But, it did become repeatedly disappointed when the titles hardly had any sort of reality. 

It was all kinda a fantasy for me. Recently, I managed to get myself a computer(I haven't had a functional one in quite some time), and I hopped back on the blockchain world. I was an ex-Steemit-er, and I eventually figured out what Hive Blog was and have been here a couple of days now. 

I am SO happy about the induction of communities; this was something I really wished had existed back when I was very active on Steemit. I frequently desired to categorize my posts; and with the lack of communities at the time, I instead did so by creating "series" of posts, so that the topic was clear both to myself and others(I think mainly for myself).

Anyhow, I eventually found the URBEX community and got very excited. Admittedly, I haven't explored it too much yet. I have been really busy the last few days but I'm finally starting to pick up some motivation to become more active online. I feel as though it's very good for me; mainly mentally, as it gives me motivation to be more productive and writing is certainly a form of therapy for me.

Anyways, I chose this one as my first exploration as it is something I walk by frequently. I used to even check out the trash porch for sign making materials; and I have even scored a basketball hoop from said trash porch that now exists in our own secret brooks spot in the middle of the woods :) 

Despite having what I had said before, I did decide to enter alone today. I had briefly been in here before and it seemed as though the structure was still fairly safe as long as you were careful. Also, my only real potential for fellow companion is my room mate, and he wasn't entirely into it.

Before I first walked up to this building, I had been seeing it for years from a distance. I originally thought it was an inhabited residence; then I realized it was abandoned. It wasn't until I actually approached it that I noticed the "sales center" sign and the credit card stickers on the front door. It is somewhat near the base of our local ski mountain, and lays on what is now a service road; but I believe it recently was probably the main entrance. The area has been developing rapidly and from my understanding looked drastically different as recent as a decade ago.

There is a fairly alarming amount of trash outside. This is not uncommon generally, but in this area, it is exceptionally uncommon. Particularly because I believe it is still on mountain property, and they are fairly strict about that sort of thing; and certainly try to obtain the ski resort "elitist" kind of vibe.

As I was approaching the above porch, a woodchuck-looking-type animals scurried out of the mess, and as I stepped on the mess I heard a horrid sounding cry; but after further investigation I believe it was just a coincidence and I had in fact stepped on nothing. I think it was the first thing to kind of start setting my nerves a little off.

There was a clear open/broken window on the second floor in front. I didn't want to enter in there for several reasons. 1. I was still unaware of what the wood was like on the fire escape stairs. Usually, fire escapes are built more hastily and cheaply, and are commonly made with cheaper materials(in Vermont, anyway). I have lived in several apartments that even though  maintained, we were still advised to avoid the fire escape at all costs and in an emergency to use it in EXTREME caution. 

Secondly, and more importantly, the upstairs window is pretty directly exposed to the road. It is not completely likely that someone would see me scurrying in there, but it is certainly possible.

Luckily, I found this set up out back. I did not put the chair there; so it seems as though I am not the first to use this entry. Either that, or it's someone's old smoking spot(possibly the employees because it is the least exposed area); but it seems like too much of a coincidence.

Upon entry I was hit with the mold smell pretty heavy. Facemask went on very fast. Insulation was hanging from everywhere and you could see some black mold in certain areas.

It seemed to me that they definitely had plans to fix this place up at one point. It didn't seem like it had been abandoned too long, so I'm guessing it started to go and they attempted to renovate it, and maybe discovered the mold and went plan B(which was to spend millions of dollars to redo the entire base area in a different location). There were a lot of things that seemed to be abandoned mid-work; many toolboxes, crates, siding, hardhats, etc. Out of curiosity I did open many of the toolboxes, and they had all been stripped clean of anything useful.

They must have had some sort of food/drink establishment here as well, because I found the old 86 board and this alcohol sign that gives a hint as to when it was last running. There are many areas that look as though they could be a bar; accompanied with confusing pairs like a bin full of basketballs. I'm guessing this must have been the last year it was operational(2005), because it seems like the building has been abandoned for a solid 10-15 years. I didn't notice the "not 83!" on the alcohol sign until I uploaded the picture; apparently someone wasn't very good with math.

I went upstairs, while for the 3rd time yelling something along the lines of "hello! i'm just here for pictures. i don't mean any harm" in case someone was staying in here. The upstairs was not in such great of shape and had very few actual items in it. Oddly enough, it almost seemed like the upstairs was designed for housing, which struck me as very odd. There were 3 bathrooms and 4 rooms that all looked equipped to be either office spaces or bedrooms. The reason I leaned towards the bedroom side is the pile of mattresses outside.

I entered one "bedroom" to find a chair facing out the window amongst a mess of debris and bullshit. This room still had a dresser in it, on which there were 3-4 empty beer cans and a VHS tape. I got closer to look at the tape and noticed it was a copy of the Blair Witch Project. It was a cute idea; but the execution boggled me a little. It seemed to me that someone wanted to "spook" people, or give them a laugh. But then, I started thinking about the fact that someone needed to have a copy of the Blair Witch Project on them. Either they were the coolest person in the world for carrying VHS tapes on their person, or they went through a weird amount of effort. 

Also, if you're trying to set up a room to spook someone, maybe remove the Budweiser cans. Nothing spooky about some pranks with beer cans next to em.

At this point I went into the basement. The smell in the basement was *much* worse than it had been in the rest of the house. In addition, there was a large shit on the stairs; that must of come from a person or bear sized animal. Several things kind of all happened at once that cut my exploration of the basement short. First, the shit was somewhat perplexing, and as I was studying it I started to hear rustling/scratching near one of the locked exterior doors. I couldn't tell if the noise was coming from inside or outside; and I didn't really want to be sighted, either by person or creature-inhabitant.

Thirdly, as all of this was happening, my phone decided to die unexpectedly. It decides to do that sometimes, especially recently. I think it might be time for a new one. 

I do want to go back sometime and see the rest of the basement. I doubt there was anything too exciting down there but I am still curious. From what I saw, it looked like another bar, and there was even a couple couches on the other side of the stairs. I would really like to find out what this building is. 

I have worked for the mountain in the past, and still do during certain seasons/times(my life is a little chaotic right now; but if I'm in Vermont in the winter, I'm usually there). I have several co-workers who would definitely be able to tell me exactly what this building is. It's really confusing; ticket sales, two(?) bars, a bin full of basketballs and housing? In a reasonably small little building. 

Seems like it might of been the most fun staff housing house ever! If I ever find out a good story, I'll go back for pictures of the basement and relent the stories to you all. 

I hope my first URBEX post is acceptable! I'm completely new to this; but I do find it absolutely fascinating. I hope to seeing more of everyone's adventures!
