Growing up while I was a child, I got to read different books. This was due to the influence of my elder brother, who had a lot of books, so many books were at my disposal to read anytime I felt like it. I can remember years back in high school. I was called a novel king because of all the different novels I brought to school. There were a lot of people from different classes who came to borrow the novels and sometimes it cost a little fuss because different people would come to buy their turn to borrow the novel, so there was a lot of clash on who would take the novel.

One of my favourite writers is the late Chinua Achebe, a novelist and poet who is from Nigeria and hails from the eastern part of the country. The late Chinua Achebe wrote a lot of books such as Things Fall Apart, Arrow Of God, No longer At Ease, A Man Of The People, An Image Of Africa, The Trouble With Nigeria and my favourite book There Was A Country. The late Chinua Achebe received many awards and recognition for his work and was an inspiration to Nigerian and African writers as he set the bar high for writers around Africa.

There Was A Country is my favourite book from Chinua Achebe masterpieces. It was a story or more like a history of how the Easterns in Nigeria pushed for independence to how the Nigeria Civil War started and how it ended. Presently, in Nigerian primary and secondary institutions, schools owned by the government have scrapped history from the school curriculum which is sad as young children and teenagers don't have any significant knowledge of the civil war that happened in Nigeria and what led to the war.

It was through the late Chinua Achebe's book "There Was A Country" that I got to find out about the horrors of the Civil War and how the easterners had been segregated from the affairs of the country. The novel had a well-detailed explanation of the strategies of the Biafra army, their victories and their heavy losses during the war and also gave vital credit to the women who played a vital role in keeping the little economy of the eastern region going while the men were at war.

It also sheds light on the top world countries that picked sides in the civil war between the Nigerian government and the Biafra government. Everything written in that novel was not fabricated but was experienced firsthand by the writer. It was a great novel and I would love to read it again but unfortunately, I can't remember where I kept the novel so I will probably go to the bookshop sometime and see if it will be available for purchase.

It's an incredible novel, and I advise my fellow country people to try getting the novel and read it in their spare time. There are incredible books and writers out there, but for me, this novel will be one of the best for a long time. So, guys, this is where I say goodbye. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day.
