You see a lot of adverts on fitness and in the majority of these commercials, there are always bombarded with fitness tips. Not everything you see on the media is true, and not everything you are told are as they are portrayed. So many things can be wrong about your fitness routine and your knowledge about fitness that you might assume is right, so let's dive into what you should know about fitness.

First, let me announce to you that exercise affects the entire body even when it is just done on one hand but you must have been told that arm exercise can help reduce fat in the arm and can target fat loss. When you are storing energy, it is stored at different part of the body, and when you are removing fat, it can be pulled from any part of the body. A study on 45 men and 59 women in a resistant training using one arm for exercise with one trained arm and an untrained arm. The exercise was to look at fat loss on the trained arm compared to the untrained one.

At the end, the trained arm in men lost fat compared to the untrained arm when measured with skin-fold measurement but both the men and women had similar changes to their arm when it was observed with an MRI. With this result, it showed a split result between the fat targeting result and make belief. The skin fold measurement result could be a result of muscle push within the fat cells which could give the believe that the fat had reduced whereas it had just being pushed together. This is different with the MRI result because that shows the actual amount of fat in the arm.

Another thin I saw on the internet was sweating out your toxins. This got me raising eyebrows because your sweat is 99% water and 1% the byproduct waste like carbon dioxide, salt, and urea. If you really want to worry about toxins, the go check your liver and kidneys because it is their job to combat toxins. While we know that our sweat isn't eliminating any toxins, the heat from workout or hot workouts can improve alertness and improve performance. A study showed that participant who did hot yoga were more aerobically fit compared to those who did normal yoga.


There is this wild spread talk about lactic acid in humans causing soreness after workout. When I hear this, I am like Lactic what? There is no lactic acid in humans as the human tissue has a pH of 7.4 which is literally basic, although your body makes lactate when you exercise but it leaves the muscle almost immediately and what causes pain isn't lactic acid rather it is metabolic acidosis which is caused by the body using up ATP from the muscle as it is consuming more than it can get from the mitochondria. In other words, lactic acid isn’t the suspect for soreness after workouts.
