Good morning all Hivers Friends! Today I want to tell you about the time when, together with my friends, we went for a hike on the mountain near our home, the mountain on whose slopes our village stands. The Monte Alpi, in southern Italy (in Basilicata).

Monte Alpi is one of the most prominent mountains in the Lucanian Apennines. It is part of the Pollino National Park, one of the most beautiful and characteristic national parks in Italy. Among its jealously guarded beauties, Mount Alpi boasts a few specimens of Pino Loricato. The Pino Loricato is considered a kind of living fossil; the only specimens in Italy are supposed to be in the Pollino National Park. It is a very beautiful tree that grows between 800 and 2200 metres in height. This certainly makes it a very rare species.

One fine day we woke up and found ourselves early in the morning in the main square of the village, wondering what we could do 'again' to turn the usual daily routine around. Suddenly, one of my mico's began with 'let's go up the mountain! Sure, a nice idea. Except that it takes about three to four hours on foot to reach the top, depending on the route. And by then it was too late to leave, usually when we climb to the top we leave almost at dawn. A maximum of 7 am is the time to leave.

"That's fine, we won't go to the top," we hear from another friend of ours.

We liked the idea, it was interesting! We could have left in the late morning or early afternoon anyway. We would just have to prepare well, get the right things and set off.

Decision made, up we go. 12 o'clock lunch with a sandwich on the fly, I remember that it was a bread and mortadella of the good ones, the homemade ones that you eat with pleasure. A little water to hydrate, a last check of the rucksack: snack taken, water taken, windbreaker jacket taken. A battery pack, just in case. Mobile phone, powerbank, cap with visor. There seems to be everything we need. After all, we didn't have to climb much, we only had to get up to an altitude of about 1300 metres.

Last check before going up and off we go.

We set off in the car for a short drive, until we could leave it in a car park. Then we go up on foot, luckily no pollution up there!

Thus begins our journey, which will be summarised in a short photo report that I will leave for you below. I hope you enjoy these photos. I would have liked to take more, but surely there will be an opportunity to go back up there and go even higher. Trust me, it's worth it!

We leave the car and set off on foot up a climb that to say it is steep is putting it mildly, very mildly. One of the ugliest and heaviest climbs my legs have ever faced. A leg-day at the gym is absolutely nothing in comparison! lol

First stop, the bar. From here on, you absolutely cannot proceed by motor vehicle. Forbidden except for special permits. Obviously if the barrier is open then everything becomes permissible.
There were benches here and we took the opportunity to take a break after a long, steep climb and to drink some water before plunging into the total vegetation.

Up above, a small road led us to this view! Absurd! It's just a little while before we get to the point we had set ourselves.

Another panoramic photo because I love it! Every time I'm up there, I let myself go and lose myself in the horizon. Only problem: vertigo! Ouch...

Here we are at last! 1375 metres above sea level. Obviously, as my village is in the mountains, we started from about 700 metres above sea level, so we didn't really do all that great a feat... but it's still beautiful!

I don't know if you can see it, but that green bush with a trunk stuck in the rock is a specimen of Pino Loricato. Really amazing how it can grow here! And there are others, but not here... you have to go further up... but my vertigo certainly doesn't help me there!

After taking a long break, drinking some water and having a healthy snack, we decide it's time to take the way back, but by a different route. Let us take a path inside the mountain!

Eventually we returned home, happy but tired. A nice shower, dinner and then we went out again to spend a few hours with friends in a relaxed way!

Buongiorno a tutti Amici Hivers! Oggi voglio raccontarvi di quando insieme ad i miei amici facemmo un camminata sulla montagna vicino casa, il monte sulle cui pendici sorge il nostro paese. Il Monte Alpi, nel Sud Italia ( in Basilicata).

Il monte Alpi è uno dei monti più rilevanti dell'Appennino Lucano. Esso fa parte del Parco Nazionale del Pollino, uno tra i parchi Nazionali più belli e caratteristici d'Italia. Tra le sue bellezze, gelosamente custodite, il Monte Alpi vanta qualche esemplare di Pino Loricato. Il Pino Loricato si considera una sorta di fossile vivente, gli unici esemplari in Italia dovrebbero trovarsi all'interno del Parco Nazionale del Pollino. E un albero molto bello che cresce tra gli 800 e i 2200 metri di altezza. Questo sicuramente lo rende una specie molto rara.

Un bel giorno ci svegliammo e ritrovandoci di buon mattino nella piazza principale del Paese, ci chiedevamo cos potessimo fare di "nuovo" per dare una svolta alla solita routine quotidiana. All'improvviso un mio mico esordì con " saliamo sulla montagna!". Certo, una bella idea. Soltanto che a piedi, per raggiungere la cima, ci vogliono circa 3/4 ore a seconda del percorso. E ormai era tardi per partire, di solito quando saliamo in cima partiamo quasi all'alba. Massimo le 7 am è l'orario in cui bisogna partire.

" Va bene, vorrà dire che non andiamo in cima" ci sentiamo rispondere da un altro nostro amico.

L'idea ci piaceva, era interessante! Potevamo partire comunque in tarda mattinata o nel primo pomeriggio. Avremmo dovuto soltanto prepararci bene, prendere le giuste cose e avviarci.

Decisione presa, si sale. Ore 12 pranzo con panino al volo, ricordo che era  un pane e mortadella di quelli buoni, quelli caserecci che mangi con piacere. Un pò d'acqua per idratarsi, un'ultima controllata allo zaino: merenda presa, acqua presa, giubbotto antivento preso. Una pila a batteria, non si sa mai. Cellulare, powerbank, cappellino con visiera. Sembra esserci tutto il necessario. D'altronde non dovevamo salire molto, bisognava arrivare soltanto a 1300 metri di altezza circa.

Ultimo check prima di salire e si parte.

Ci avviamo in macchina per un breve tragitto, fino a quando potevamo lasciarla in un parcheggio. Poi si sale a piedi, perfortuna niente inquinamento lassù!

Così parte il nostro viaggio che sarà riassunto da un breve reportage fotografico che vi lascerò di seguito. Spero vi possano piacere queste foto. Avrei voluto scattare di più, ma sicuramente ci sarà occasione per tornare lassù e andare ancora più sopra. Fidatevi che ne vale la pena!

Lasciamo la macchina e ci apprestiamo a procede a piedi per una salita che dire che sia ripida è dire poco, molto poco. Una delle salite più brutte e pesati che le mie gambe abbiano mai affrontato. Un leg-day in palestra in confronto non è assolutamente nulla! lol

Prima tappa, la sbarra. Da qui in poi non si può assolutamente procedere con i mezzi a motore. Vietato, tranne che per permessi speciali. Ovviamente se la sbarra è aperta allora tutto diventa lecito.
Qui c'erano delle panchine e ne abbiamo approfittato per fare una pausa dopo una lunga ripida salita e per bere un pò d'acqua prima di immergerci nella vegetazione più totale.

Siamo sopra, una stradina ci ha portati a questa vista! Assurda! Manca poco per andare al nostro punto che ci eravamo prefissati.

Altra foto panoramica perchè mi piace da matti! Ogni volta che sono lassù mi lascio andare e mi perdo nell'orizzonte. Unico problema: le vertigini! Ahia...

Eccoci qui finalmente! 1375 metri di altezza, 1375 metri sopra il livello del mare. Ovviamente essendo il mio paese in montagna, siamo partiti da circa 700 metri di altezza, quindi non abbiamo fatto proprio tutta questa grande impresa... però è sempre bello!

Non so se riuscite a vederlo ma quella macchia verde con un tronco conficcato nella roccia è un esemplare di Pino Loricato. Davvero incredibile come possa crescere qui! E ce ne sono altri, ma non qui.. bisogna salire ancora.. ma lì le mie vertigini di certo non mi aiutano!

Dopo aver fatto una lunga pausa, aver bevuto un pò di acqua e dopo aver fatto uno snack salutare, decidiamo che è ora di prendere la strada del ritorno, ma tramite un percorso diverso. Facciamo un sentiero all'interno della Montagna!

Alla fine siamo tornati a casa, contenti ma stanchi. Una bella doccia, cena e poi siamo usciti di nuovo per passare qualche ora tra amici in modo tranquillo!
