Journal Practice Page And A Frito Memory

##### Saturday Saturday... Saturday,,,,, Saturday Saturday... Saturday is alright ! The moment I thought of the word Saturday, Elton John started singing to me.

##### I did my time, my overtime that is and am done with work till Tuesday as Monday is the Memorial holiday here and I'm paid to be off work. I could have worked Monday for double time, but please, don't insult me. My off time is worth WAY more than that !

##### I know you were just dying to see what I would do next and so here it is ! Another abstract collage play in my journal.

##### Voila !!... or better known here spelled as Vwa-LA ! 🤣 in jest of course.

##### It's not supposed to be anything particular, just fun bits of colorful paper and a little paint here and there.

##### I started it by gluing this stenciled paper I made last week to the page. I liked the shade of green it was and I liked the black circles. Then I just made up what I was going to do next and next and next..... as I went along.

##### Here is a quicky version of how it went. It is kind of like a vertical wave as things are added, going this way and that way, taking good turns and bad.

##### Here it is a little further away. I need to come up with a better way to take a journal photo. The pages do warp a bit from the wet paint and glue and that is expected, but then it becomes nearly impossible to get an even photo. Maybe I'll figure out a better way later..... or not.

##### Now for the Frito Memory.

##### When I was growing up, my brother David who was a year and a half older than me, started early trying to make a little money of his own. The first job when he was a young teen was a paper route. If some of you are too young to know what that is, it is when nearly every household had a local newspaper delivered to their home daily, a lot of time by young boys on bicycles that had VERY large wire baskets on the front. They would petal down the street, throwing the rolled and banded papers towards the recipients front door. The good ones could make them land very close to the steps, if not the actual porch, sometimes at pretty good distances. There was always a few customers that would have no part of that and wanted their paper placed in hands reach as they opened their doors, so of course those few were accommodated with some extra care, to keep the heated phone calls to the newspaper office to a minimum. Once a month those same boys would go house to house and collect that month's payment from each customer.

##### Oh wait, you DO know what a newspaper is... don't you? 😉

##### So it happened one time that my brother got hit by a car while riding his bike. It was not while he was delivering papers though. He used to ride his bike EVERYWHERE !.... for miles and miles. Anyway, because of that, he had a few days where it was not so easy for him to deliver the papers and Mom took him in the car. One day she was unable to do that, so I helped him walk the paper route. There was a bowling alley near his route and when we were done, we were to call Mom to pick us up and we did. While we were waiting for her to come, he bought himself a small bag of BBQ Fritos. I had never had any before and when he offered to share and I liked them, he bought me my very own bag ! Woah ! That was a real treat ! So we ate our Fritos and shared a drink till Mom showed up and home we went.

##### Out of everything that I ever experienced in my childhood, I'm not quite sure why I remember this one so vividly, but I do.

#### I think of that day so many years ago every time I see a bag of them on a store shelf. I used to buy them more, but in my late thirties, something in the spices on them started making my heart want to race, so I only buy a bag once every year or two, to taste that old memory. I bought this one a couple of days ago. I ate a small amount yesterday and a small amount more today while I was working. They taste good to me, but yesterday they still weren't nice to me, even though I didn't eat many, so no more for me. I was going to dump them in the trash to make sure I wasn't tempted anymore, but then I remembered Mom likes them and wondered if I'd just take them to her tomorrow when I visit. I don't know.... but one of those things will happen.

#### The memory has been fun to live in again though, so it all balances out.

##### Now I'm on to other things. I should do chores first, but since I have an extra day, I don't know if I'll do any. More playing at the art table will happen for sure though.

Hi !

I think (today that is 😄) that I should include a little extra story, just a short one, with my art posts.  So many folks have been so kind to support me as I go along, but I know it gets hard to feel like there is anything new to say about my art !  I mean that with affection, because I really do understand, so I thought if I could include a fairly short "other" subject, it might be helpful in that way. 

I am certainly going to try to enjoy the extra day.  You have to know though how very fast it goes no matter how many days I get.  One moment it's Friday night and I am mentally celebrating the long weekend and a couple hours later it seems, it is Monday night a few hours before bedtime and its ALL over ! The best days always seem to be on a time warp.

Thanks for stopping over.  Hope your day is going or has gone well.  It's about 2:32 pm here as I type this and I don't know what time of day (or night) it is where you are.

Chores? noooo, skip them hahaha or just make art of the chores as you do with these pages. 

Why do we remember some things from our childhood more vividly than others? I don't know, but maybe they got an emotional imprint so at some point in our lives those moments come more easily to our memory.

Chores ! *wrinkles nose* .... they ought to be outlawed !  😂

I don't know why our brains hold some things and let others go.  Sometimes, something spurs a memory that I haven't thought about in so many years.  Who knows what will pull some random memory back to the surface.

We weren't rich, nor were we poor, so it' not like I never got a snack, but it is the only time I ever helped deliver papers and he did buy me my own bag with his self earned money. Not sure what part of the whole thing caused it to imprint.  Still a sweet memory, so it's a good thing.
