Maybug in April. / Maikäfer im April.

Spring began early in Germany this year with persistent warm and sunny weather, and I could take the following photos of a 'Maybug' (<em><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockchafer">Melolontha melolontha</a></em>), which isn't normally found before May, already on April 20th!
</p>
<p>
I found the beetle in our garden at night, placed it on my hand to better show details and finally released it on a plant called 'great scarlet poppy' (<em><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papaver_bracteatum">Papaver bracteatum</a></em>), under whose leaves it quickly hid.

Der Frühling brach dieses Jahr mit anhaltend warm-sonnigem Wetter früh über Deutschland herein, und die folgenden Fotos eines normalerweise erst im Mai anzutreffenden 'Feldmaikäfers' (<em><a href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldmaik%C3%A4fer">Melolontha melolontha</a></em>) gelangen mir bereits am 20.04.!

Ich fand den Käfer nachts in unserem Garten, setzte ihn auf meine Hand, um Details besser darstellen zu können und ließ ihn schließlich auf einer Pflanze 'Armenischen Mohns' (<em><a href="https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arznei-Mohn">Papaver bracteatum</a></em>) wieder frei, unter dessen Blättern er sich rasch verkroch.

Ich finde es gar nicht nett, daß Maikkäfer angeblich Schädlinge sein sollen, denn ich bin ja schließlich im Mai geboren. ;-)
Meine ganz Hoffnung ruht nun auf Deiner Expertiese, die mir bitte ausweist, daß es sich bei diesen Insekten nicht um Schädlinge handelt. Oder sieht nur der Gärtner die Käfer als Schädlinge.
Einen dieser Gesellen hatte ich auch schon diesen Monat in meinem Studio. Natürlich endete sein Leben dort NICHT!

Wer Schädling ist und wer nicht, liegt immer im Auge des Betrachters. So dürften Gazellen Geparden möglicherweise als Schädlinge einstufen ... aber letztlich versucht jeder Organismus samt seinem genetischen Programm eben nur, die nötigen Maßnahmen zu ergreifen (Energie aufnehmen, Verstecke finden, schlafen, sich vermehren), um überleben zu können.
Dass der (mit den Augen der übrigen Natur betrachtet) größte Schädling überhaupt, auch <em>Homo sapiens</em> genannt, die Dreistigkeit besitzt, andere Lebewesen in Schädlinge und Nützlinge einzuteilen, entbehrt nicht einer gewissen Ironie. :)

Das erst einmal als 'Vorspann', um meine eigene Perspektive zu verdeutlichen.
Aus menschlich-ökonomischer Sicht betrachtet können vor allem die Maikäferlarven, sofern sie in größerer Anzahl auftreten, durch Wurzelfraß (die müssen nun mal, genauso wie wir, irgendwie Energie aufnehmen) landwirtschaftliche Schäden verursachen.

Dafür erfreuen Maikäfer Kinder und sehen wunderschön aus. :)

Genauso ist es. Der Maikäfer in meiner Wohnung war eine Attraktion für die Kinder.

Ich habe schon als Kind Ameisenkriege beobachtet und Kreuzspinnen gefüttert ... und der Titel meiner (lange zurückliegenden) Diplomarbeit lautete "ÖKOLOGISCHE UNTERSUCHUNGEN ZUR ENTOMOFAUNA EINER KULTURLANDSCHAFT (Botanischer Garten der Universität des Sparlandes)", oder so ähnlich. :)

Das waren noch Zeiten ...

Ist immer wieder erstaunlich zu sehen, wie behaart die meisten Insekten sind. Obwohl es meist so aussieht als wären sie glatt. Die Haare sieht man oft erst bei starker Vergrößerung, was eigentlich schade ist. Denn so manches mal sind die gradezu skuril:

Sorry, nein, das ist nicht von mir. Nur ein Beispiel von tausenden. Gerade Springspinnen sind sehr gute Beispiele. Eine sieht punkiger aus als die andere - nur leider wissen das die meisten Leute nicht, weil die Tiere oft sehr klein sind. Oft nur 2 oder 3 mm insgesamt, da sieht man natürlich keine Haare mit bloßem Auge.
Aber ich habe auch schon mal ein recht gutes Spinnenfoto gemacht, von einer Kreuzspinne die etwas größer war:

Ich mag Maikäfer sehr gerne, habe aber schon lange keine mehr gesehen, weiß nicht ob das daran liegt das die vielleicht in den südlichen Gefilden in denen ich mich herumtreibe nicht wirklich heimisch sind, da bist du der Experte Jaki01.

Insekten findet man bei uns im Supermarkt. Die sind dort aber eher als überteuerten Modetrend anzusehen. In Asien ist das natürlich ganz anders. Ich habe während meiner Zeit in China so einiges probiert. Man muss das europäische Hirn ausblenden, dann schmecken viele für uns Europäer seltsame Dinge, gar nicht mal so schlecht.
