You see, @crazycowboy and I decided it was time to 'talk' on the blockchain, rather than use the web 2 tools that we're all so very used to. It ended up in quite [a popular Thread today](https://leofinance.io/threads/view/jongolson/re-leothreads-2jtwj9gcn) and wow, look at these stats... https://images.hive.blog/DQmccbsRg8Q9zRBkCQaAQ2ThagfLiuxdSrdv9WuPrhFMtFo/4.png $LEO Ads was the topic and given the background both @crazycowboy and myself have in 'online advertising' this was right up our alley. As much as I'd love to talk about what we discussed, this isn't the point of this post. Instead, Rich (crazycowboy) asked me what I thought Threads needed, or any web 3 project needed, to get mass adoption. I came up with these 5 things... https://images.hive.blog/DQmUL4VS693WognnEa4XJ58pSHWNVKfXPtAj4HLQL3yAGTC/3.png I wanted to break each one of these points down, and see how Threads fits the billing for what I would consider a superior web 3 project! **1. Fantastic UI** When you consider where Threads was a few months ago, to today, you should feel pretty good! It's getting better and better each and every day. I love the latest features including actually seeing what each Thread can potential generate in ad revenue. On top of that, all the 'little hidden gems' truly makes the UI a fantastic experience. Sure we'd love for all the kinks to be out of it, but that will take time. Right now, I just see improvement almost daily on the experience. **2. Very easy to use** Once you 'get' Threads, it's easy enough to use. However I think a cleaner layout to how conversations happen could benefit the platform. For example, on the above Thread that I mentioned, you can [see a concern](https://leofinance.io/threads/view/trumpikasleo/re-jongolson-2ep2tropj) from @trumpikasleo that I agree with. It'd be great to have the entire conversation laid out, rather than having each comment have to be 'opened' if that makes sense. Still, this UI and platform are very clean, which makes navigating it pretty easy. All things will get better I'm sure! **3. Mobile friendly** I understand the argument with having to cater to Apple and Google, and that is never fun when it comes to building a web3 app for their respected app stores. However, I just can't help but think.... What would happen if Threads actually had a native app? *Game. Set. Match!* I'm not sure if it's even in the plans but I think if there was a way to make that happen, it would change the game when it comes to mass adoption. **4. Branding** This is my biggest concern. And it's not a concern per se, more of a plea lol Threads is on Leo Finance. Threads isn't a standalone project. This creates a bit of confusion to others. Telling people to go to 'Threads' but they have to go to LeoFinance.io just seems confusing for new potential members. Threads is a FANTASTIC brand name. I truly believe that should be front and center. And I understand trying to keep everything under one roof, but for marketing and branding purposes, you just can't beat a potential 'Threads' brand. $LEO is the token for sure, I think that's brilliant to keep that. Just think a standalone 'Threads' brand would do wonders. **5. A couple of influencers, talking about it** This is frustrating. We have one of the top crypto influencers actually using this app all the time. She rarely mentions it in her YouTube videos though. Imagine if we had just a few of them, actually use this app daily, promote it to their audience and create content directly for it. Ahhhh, the dreams of potential lol It's coming! I truly believe that. It's why I have been buying as much $LEO as I can over the past few months, and will continue to do it. Sometimes I think a lot of forget that this is a small development team, that doesn't have VC funds to develop things tomorrow. *So patience is needed!* I personally have plenty of that lol. I'm here for the long run, and can't wait to see how this platform continues to grow over the next few months. And while this is not financial advice..... I'm with you on number three. I have heard the argument from Khal and it makes a ton of sense about not wanting to cater to the two big stores rules and regulations, but I think it would spur growth too. People for the most part are lazy and just want a user experience that is familiar. That means downloading an app from the store and using their stored credentials to access it (Apple ID or Google account).

I think we are clashing with another Hive blockchain. If we can compete in branding and get out of that clashing of names things would be lot easier too. I feel that threads would create it's own branding and would make Hive underneath have some value like LEO.

Putting out an app to a wide audience would be quite a powerful way to onboard people. The sign-up process for Hive would still be the biggest potential barrier, however. For privacy-centered individuals, having your account connected to your phone number, in any form, would also be a potential concern (it's the reason I only use the most necessary apps on my phone, and do the rest via non-phone devices using my own data).

Threads are definitely amazing and I agree that the UI is definitely fit for threads. The only downside is that the long-form content requires a lot more work. I think an app would be quite useful and I still would prefer it if people use threads over Discord.

I think after everything, leothreads checks in all these aspects. It's becoming friendlier to use overtime and it only needs a little adjustments to be able to withhold a large userbase. I think what remains is a few influencers who knows their onions talking about it.

The branding is awkward. Especially when hovering over an account name and being presented with the lion theme and status symbols. For instance Twitter's logo is a bird. They don't call new members "hatchlings" until that new member pays hundreds of dollars in order to *level up*. Noobs feeling like they're somehow *lesser* works in a game, but not on a social network. There's always far too much focus placed on making the platform/stakeholders wealthy and it looks more like a club to an outsider. Outsiders don't care about the token value. On a social network, they care about their own stuff. It's common for someone totally on the outside to look in, see what appears to be a club, and conclude they won't *fit in.* The ad revenue is only for stakeholders. Anyone signing up, creating a buzz on their own, then seeing that ad revenue ticker go up, is not seeing even a dime of that ad revenue. They'd have to buy tokens first. Then they'd have sit and post threads nonstop for several years to recoup those losses. Can't call that "being paid" or generating ad revenue. The effort generating engagement is paying someone else. Any new member, totally on the outside with nothing in the wallet, is not getting a fair deal in my opinion. And that's just me putting it nicely.

I think that is what web 3 should be though, ad revenue only for stake holders. We complain about traditional social media having all the power and controlling the narrative, mostly because the owners make the money. Here we can flip it. We get to see a share of what is generated. The more active it is, the more those ads get served. I think the 'Lion' brand is a culture / community thing. Calling ourselves Lions, is like calling each other Hivers (or Hivians lol). Makes people feel a part of something. But I understand what you are saying about Twitter. And I dont think you need to pay to play here. The larger LEO stake holders are very generous with upvotes and trying to spread the token out to as many as they can. Sure, if you were to try to live off what you earn with Threading, it';ll be a few years lol But that's all micro-earning. Big picture would be for me, get them interested and see why some stake holders are earning more from ad revenue. Now they are more active, and potential powering up.

So if the new member looks in, becomes interested, signs up, threads the day away (which I know from experience can at least be fun sometimes, if people are around), receives their micro dose, powers up, *eventually maybe* sees ad revenue kick in. Now to get paid from that they must power down and sacrifice future ad revenue. There's a bit of a *catch* there.
Perhaps I'm a tough sell. Maybe that's the problem. Hint: **That's the problem.** lol
As for web2, the owner's making the money, and people complaining about that.
I could buy a truckload of LEO, sit back, watch everyone thread the day away, not lift a finger, and make money off their efforts while they're busy convinced they must climb that mountain and level up, taking a hit if they stop, hardly making a dent in my wallet, and easily replaceable by the next group walking in the door. Eerily similar to web2 options that lead to complaints, in my eyes. Perhaps that might be appealing to someone getting in early (still a gamble), yet potentially leading to bad press down the road (something I'd factor in before buying). If the system in its current form takes off, I do see people asking for a better deal in the future. That would be the web3 angle kicking in.
Sidenote: I never identified as a Hiver/Hivian or even a steemian back in the day. But I do know some people like that kind of stuff. I'm not too good at *fitting in.*
I do hope Threads works out. Got a lot of respect for you folks trying to make it work.
