[<b>François Rabelais</b>](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7ois_Rabelais) falleció hace más de 470 años. Fue el autor de <b><i>Gargantúa y Pantagruel</i></b>, obra que fijó un camino en la literatura que sería continuado por Cervantes, Sterne y contemporáneos como Kundera, por ejemplo, entre otros. Disfrutar la lectura de esa obra representativa de lo carnavalesco, como la describiera el estudioso ruso Mijaíl Bajtin (escribí este [post](https://peakd.com/hive-179291/@josemalavem/lo-carnavalesco-de-mijail-bajtin-a-alejo-carpentier) hace un tiempo al respecto) es una experiencia que deberían darse. Hoy, recordando a Rabelais, escribí esta microficción, al modo de un diálogo imaginario entre este y Cervantes.

Cervantes: "Mi corazón no puede otra materia elegir/ al ver el pesar que os consume y mina; / mejor es de risa que de llanto escribir, / pues lo propio del hombre es reír". Así escribió, mi señor, en su dedicatoria a los lectores en la primera edición de <i>Gargantúa</i>. Yo fui uno de ellos, y leí todos los libros. No recuerdo donde los adquirí, pues tuvieron mucho éxito, pese a las censuras.

Rabelais: Viniendo de usted ese comentario, es todo un honor.

Cervantes: Es una gran verdad lo dicho por usted. Yo también intenté aligerar la vida de mis congéneres con algo de ese reír, pero nunca con la exorbitancia y sarcasmo que lo hizo, maestro (permítame llamarlo así).

Rabelais: Yo sólo fui un monje desencaminado, con pretensiones de médico y un poco de pedagogo, pero más vividor y bebedor. No puedo negar que disfruté mucho escribir esas desorbitadas y hasta bruscas historias, especialmente en descargo de tanto moralista encubierto, oculto tras licencias y jerarquías.

Cervantes: Pareciera que nuestra humana condición y la historia estará, lamentablemente, acompañada siempre de esas miserables visiones. Por eso pienso que hay mucho más que risa en su obra. Hay una poderosa crítica. Puedo citar ahora: "vosotros y yo somos más dignos de perdón que esa caterva de beatones, hipócritas... (y sigue la enumeración, pero no la recuerdo) y otras tales sectas de gentes que se han disfrazado como máscaras para engañar al mundo".

Rabelais: ¡Qué memoria admirable tiene usted, mi señor! Sí, por eso puse final a las crónicas de Pantagruel con: "no os fiéis nunca de las gentes que miran por un agujero", por la abertura de la capucha, como bien han interpretado. Mas, lo que hice, en suma, fue beber de esa fuente rica de la fabulación popular, para revivirla y realzarla. Gargantúa y Pantagruel ya existían y yo los reviví. Y lo gocé. Por eso terminé aquel prólogo: "no olvidéis beber a mi salud por igual, yo os imitaré sin tardanza". ¡Salud!

_Cervantes: It would seem that our human condition and history will, unfortunately, always be accompanied by those miserable visions. That is why I think there is much more than laughter in his work. There is a powerful critique. I can quote now: "you and I are more worthy of forgiveness than that crowd of begrudgers, hypocrites..." (and the list goes on, but the list goes on...). (and the enumeration goes on, but I do not remember it) and other such sects of people who have disguised themselves as masks to deceive the world"._

_Rabelais: What an admirable memory you have, my lord! Yes, that is why I ended the chronicles of Pantagruel with: "never trust people who look through a hole", through the opening of the hood, as you have well interpreted. But what I did, in short, was to drink from this rich source of popular fable, to revive and enhance it. Gargantua and Pantagruel already existed and I revived them. And I enjoyed it. That is why I finished that prologue: "do not forget to drink to my health equally, I will imitate you without delay". Cheers!_
