Hello everyone, today I am going to lecture you on how to calculate your electricity Bills.

Electricity energy consumption is measured and sold in unit kilowatts hour.  1 kilowatt hour is the electrical energy consumed by an appliance when the power of one kw is used by an appliance for one hour.

The electrical energy consumed in kw hour is given as [P/1,000×T] kwh
                                  
Where;
P= Electrical power in watt
T= time in hours

**Note;** 1 kilowatt = 1,000 watt

If the Electricity Distribution Company charges *"n"* Dollar per kilowatt hour then the cost of electrical energy is given as; P×T/1,000×n 

**Let's solve some problems as example**

**1.** A lamp rated 100w, is lit up for 5 hours, calculate the cost of lightning the lamp if 1 kilowatt of electricity is $5

 **Solution**

P= 100 w
T=5 h
n=$5

=100×5/1,000×5
=500/1,000×5
=$2.50

**2.** A man has 5 60 watt bulb & a 240 watt water heater in his apartment. If the bulbs are switched on for 4 hours daily and the cost of electricity is $1.20.     
Calculate his bill for 30 days.

**Solution**

P= 5×60+240=300+240=540
T= 4
n= 1.20

=PT/1,000×n
=540×4/1,000×1.20
=2,160/1,000×1.20=2.592×30
=$77.76

**3.** A man has 6 60 watt bulb & 4 50 watt speaker.  He used them for 3 hours daily.  Calculate his bill for 7 days if the cost of electricity is $50

**Solution**

P= 6 ×60+4×50
=360+80
=440
T= 3
n=50

=PT/1,000×n
=440×3/1000×50
=1,420/1,000×50×7
=$497
