Exploring Vessigny Beach And Its Shipwrecks!
# Finding Hidden Treasures In The Ocean!
![DJI_0006.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23sJmhLuwrg2CjK1avZ7e26fB4dHKSyrSKD1cJA5yUv4x74VAvPYmJCUqmNqujkjR9eQB.jpg)

Vessigny Beach is not as popular as the other beaches in Trinidad but it certain has a lot of hidden gems that I was not quite expecting to find! Located in the south of Trinidad near the Pitch Lake which we did a blog on earlier, the beach is relatively calm with very small and slow waves. Because of its proximity to the pitch lake, there are dark deposits all around which is supposed to be really good for your skin! Come explore this unassuming beach as my wife and I check out shipwrecks within its bay!

![IMG_7470.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EokadgPgsowNNqznJhjCbR2hLT2mPgNHKuL3jZwzyxmWQ4DCXUQzuW4WQodVG6JnPmh.jpg)

Today was a week day and so everyone was at work and we had the beach mostly to ourselves! It was 8 am in the morning by the time we arrived and the gates were wide open beckoning us in. Already, we could hear and smell the ocean as well as see the vibrant colors of the beach facilities itself!

![IMG_7472.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/Eq7KwyuZWmAAGNnBEYw7GcbyFCE1uaPixLQ7hKnfpieuRTJn9qb6J9XDMXwAaSfEm6Q.jpg)

The first thing that greeted us was the vibrant sign just before the carpark. It was quite in year face and pretty apt for a Caribbean beach!

![IMG_7475.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EppL9LwHfmakJFEkUNvPRS8jF7eJK1QYos1gxwgSxydFMD9MQQgGbU9ur54XEJmRcki.jpg)

We parked in the carpark that was empty as could be with the excpetion of a few cars that belonged to the caretakers and beach administration who were just now getting to work of opening the offices and cleaning up the grass as well as leaf blowing the pathways!

![IMG_7477.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EptZbYX5mX6s5JFAnCqEKZAkoD5WvzjmkDPmGdJuGRYHQfbqC2Fm7BjZppmkztR4cjp.jpg)

The beach facility buildings were just as vibrantly colored as the sign before and the stone tiles were just awesome for barefoot walking back to the car after a bath and you want to change. I'm just glad we don't have to walk back in grass and mud or sand as other beaches usually make you do.

![IMG_7482.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EqL7JjXh8p74t3jdKCRBT6zeuTkU4s8WV7AR9yvaKPvYaYiNcjXGrKP4Rtu7MgtjAbX.jpg)

We were hoping to get some refreshments before at the beach's restaurant and bar but it was not yet open and the caretakers were still inside moping and sweeping up, getting ready for the lunch service. I guess we would have to wait.

![IMG_7481.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EpVC6bZpABmjY3SKxEqed6hx8Dass1HNQfk35rteF5Ra4z7mZKhMz1Wk65bFBrJvvZz.jpg)

As you can see, the place was still so empty and deserted and we literally had it all to ourselves. We were getting closer and closer to the shoreline and I could hear the waves on the shoreline in the distance! I guess I really understood the meaning of the early bird gets the worm at this point.

![IMG_7483.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/Ep1UwRPWuD8JQAQkfvjpqLgQEXG8fomqDVoEXWFGzJzLrkPqy5CwLic3RzhtVmnwhnY.jpg)

It was literally right there just over a charming and quite white fenced bridge! We could literally see the water and some shipwrecks already in the distance! I decided that I would set up and launch the drone right there from that gazebo in the distance.

![IMG_7490.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EnWHaYLRhmXfbiB5JxXpCk7hN4DP8yuPxD52CqQDQS2nZ2WRsH1BzNSrv4cx3yE8erp.jpg)

This is what the sands looked like as we went up to the shoreline. This is a view facing the right side of the beach. There was so much area of sand while also having a lot of shade to shield from the scorching sun!

![IMG_7493.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EqQPW3bmHTr2bCuVWviRyDVAXuECEQsp2XuPYbdNE5PP1g3FHyhkfEPTgn9x6Z7i429.jpg)

This is what the left side of the beach looked like with its sprawling coastline that spans for at least a mile or more! There was this decorated lovely painted blue boat as well as another pirogue which is a common site on Trinbago beaches, most of you all who follow my blogs would know this.

![IMG_7497.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EpzyEzXPbUWrw5CkL5qAhmdAWi4h43bqFyYsKKCasy7uDTWWn7thhfGNgirKrqefTqi.jpg)

Looking further down, I realized that there was already a family with their kids bathing already long before we were here but that seemed to be it. On the other popular beaches on the island, this place would be crammed with people already!

![IMG_7501.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EnmCi6PsfT73bz3tjuyghDwr6Leo1GTT6rPSumGqrJSinU9umCB8hEzfbCGVt3JCJ1D.jpg)

I really wanted to see what those white billowing flag things were in the distance we saw earlier so I got up close to investigate. They turned out to be sail boats with the country's coat of arms on them! How peculiar as they had numbers and codes on them as if for some international competition!

![IMG_7510.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EoPLgzUxFky6ABxZYzqcX4XyArDNAcuFtXM5ugKxJwVjbAtfUtVMfZwmSdpx4rfXBpw.jpg)

Getting lower down on the scale of things, this is what the shoreline looked like peppered with these beautifully colored rocks as well as the darkened sand caused by the nearby pitch lake (the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world!).

![IMG_7521.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/EqNG9gjNhdgZEHMdH1ft6CRyf81eRgQ9kjNKrBE2AtssvU8RLnec3r91dcBtyr6oiP6.jpg)

I also wanted to get a closeup of the boat that was quite unorthodox than the usual colored pirogues on the beaches. I really liked the design as it reminded me of the popular designs of the 2010's that they used to use on phones such as with Google's Material Design themes and so on when that was all the rage! Just type in material design wallpapers in google and you'll see what I mean!

![DJI_0002.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/243BeRnXG9U61fyPvDY1e3K75drM7wuTXXqQtHwRRBgbYB5SCGX2c1gNoxmnsk991DFPK.jpg)

After exploring the ground level sights of the area, it was time to get a bird's eye view and check out the abandoned shipwrecks in the bay itself! The photos and colors that I get are always awesome and it feels like I am piloting a probe in space checking out a derelict ship in space!

![DJI_0003.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/245cTuiCzKYAUqPeDWEAcz9yTy8VqxGzZRBLxGAwXgbY9uVBJPVfPwXowboMdsJfx7bUW.jpg)

I could see a rusted old barge on the right side of the coastline so I decided to check that out first. I flew for a few minutes on that side of the coastline. You could see the darkness on the sands more apparently here due to the deposits from being so close to the pitch lake!

![Screenshot 2023-03-21 at 9.41.57 AM.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23wgHutbR7DKEBg4suT8wCeD99XPnXeBxeuEFWERiyTPGc6FCQv1ELgtUodftnJAq4PsW.jpg)

Finally the drone arrived after traveling at full speed for a while. This would affect the battery level but it was relatively close by so it was not a huge issue. Already I could see the awesome rusty colors of the flat bed barge!

![Screenshot 2023-03-21 at 9.42.06 AM.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23tSYcTPPLbNe32U7JH5YC1mx2vTwPxfRBnXFGENdd93A1S8BVg8GSPUXKKoJYZL6nabi.jpg)

I managed to capture some birds flying near the abandoned vessel as they flew along with me. The rust seemed to seep into the surrounding water and change its green/ brown hues to that of a doritos kind of orange. Who knows what type of damage this was doing to the ecosystem!

![Screenshot 2023-03-21 at 9.42.39 AM.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23w2j6qiGeiQZri2rSZG2tBNA3rEUaznYb2FguS9r1eYsRmzuv7aBZoePSNZ8k5tEDG1y.jpg)

Nonetheless, I just had to get closer to get the details of the barge itself. I just love photography of old abandoned things and part of what makes them so enthralling is the details of the patterns and colors left back by the decay and march of time!

![Screenshot 2023-03-21 at 9.43.19 AM.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23u65Pxi8TqvyTg9rN4YohpdCYVmNdLp655Tghz4CMpK9CExHA3vMQL6wzw6H19Egd5im.jpg)

There was also this just as rusty tug boat behind the barge that seemed to be abandoned as well but could very well be still in use, I could not at all tell!

![Screenshot 2023-03-21 at 9.44.04 AM.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23vhyeTGDcHr2gdnsm6LdG3BRR5otA7E7ta8qz7mibzRCTTGvVgX2deMY2z8nPfaxdD3G.jpg)

There was a lot of old debris and garbage left back on the top of the flat bed itself and grass started to grow as well as vines in certain areas. Ropes and other marine gear littered the top. The large tower that rose above looked quite sturdy and still intact and if I was there in person would definitely attempt to climb the top!

![Screenshot 2023-03-21 at 9.44.27 AM.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23tviWobJTK5c4bbnbd85Kwq7JCCYWviq22dbYy4CCe8uZGDKQGHm3Aufj6KMy7Tt15Wd.jpg)

Here is a closer look of the base of the tower. There was so much to see and decipher! I wondered what the history of this vessel was so badly. You can see the vines and grass that grew more clearly now as well. Look at those orange and red hues, I just love it!

![Screenshot 2023-03-21 at 9.44.52 AM.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lemniscate/23u65VBzhzzJ3WeCEVo5imcZi4pEpthUNGymiJRmbisJp3mskB4jCQuqJUxKM8gWHTRRa.jpg)

This was such an amazing find and I really loved the details and colors that was on this vessel due its age and whatever else it may have went through in its history! The patterns, details and other colors were amazing and so much fun to take photos of. The Gulf of Paria has so many shipwrecks but this one was the most in tact as the rest were so rusted away and broken apart! Thanks for coming along, cheers!
