Greetings all

The weather has been terrible in the Cape as of late. First, it's broiling, and then it's freezing and raining with massive lightning strikes and wind. I think we're in for a freezing winter at this rate. Oh well.

A short update today, only because it's difficult to find any natural breaks in this long stretch I'm writing. So please enjoy!

Bolx looked at the Dekai in curiosity. He had no idea where this was going. Edzeeker pulled some papers from inside his cloak and slid them across the table of Kaiden. Not breaking eye contact, the princess picked up the papers before lowering her sight to look at the papers. Bolx watched her read and could almost see the tension building in her muscles.

“Are you serious?” she hissed when she was done.

“Deadly serious. All that needs to be done within six months.”

“You’re looking to murder someone for *this*.” She threw the papers down.

“It won’t be murder if the person lives, and has accelerated healing, and a way to grow with the machine.”

Kaiden looked from the papers to the Dekai, and the colour drained from her face, “You actually want to do this? On a human?”

“A volunteer, it doesn’t have to be a human.”

“Why not do it on your own kind?” she demanded.

Myla picked up the papers and scoured them. She didn’t tense as much as Kaiden had, but the corners of her mouth pulled tight. She handed the papers down the table and stood to place her hand on Kaiden’s shoulder, gently pushing her back into her seat.

“While I see the merit in what you bring to us, Lord Edzeeker, I should let you know, that those with healing capabilities are generally those who don’t fight.”
“But you have someone who can learn.”

Bolx felt his stomach muscles constrict as he realised what the Dekai was implying.

“You want to use me?” asked Kaiden in shock.

“I was hoping you’d volunteer to help save the universe and be a hero.” Said the Dekai.

“I’m not that vain that that would catch my interest.” Spat Kaiden.

“Now, now, let us all remain calm.” Karesh indicated he wanted Myla to continue standing, “Explain this to us, as I am sure more than half the table isn’t going to understand what they read.”

“From what I can glean, the device is made of several pieces that can increase the force produced within a person. I may be wrong here, but are those pieces in specific locations for a reason?”

Edzeeker nodded his head, “They are power conduits, a way for the force to travel and accumulate over time. The machine’s goal is to increase how much force a single person can contain within them.”

“How?” snorted Kaiden.

“A crystal lattice.”

“You speak of things we don’t understand.” Kaiden jumped to her feet and pointed to the Dekai.

In a flash, Edzeeker stood and grabbed her hand with one of his, while another drew a line down the inside of her arm. Before everyone at the table, black lines spread from his fingers. Bolx could almost feel the panic in Kaiden, as she snatched her hand away from him. The castle guards moved to apprehend the Dekai, but Kaiden waved them off. She was captivated by the black marks that still sat upon her skin.

“Do you understand now, Your Majesty?” asked the Dekai as he sat down.
Kaiden held her arm up for all to see and said, “He pulled my force to the surface of my skin and condensed it.”

She then sat down and took a deep breath of air and muttered, “And I am winded.”

“You would be, that little bit of force I brought to the surface was a lot of what you had at this moment. You asked why I don’t use one of my kind? Humans have a lovely ability to generate force within themselves. The more you live, the stronger you get, and the more force you generate. This machine makes the force, and I teach you how to crystalise your energy to make the lattice.”

“Why not offer to do this to all our soldiers?” asked Karesh.

“Because they don’t have the fortitude that the Princess has.”

“So, you have been stalking me.” Accused Kaiden, “I thought you were trying to hide that you knew me.”

Those around the table started to shift in their seats uncomfortably. It was clear that their intelligence had no idea who this Dekai was, while he had clearly been gathering intel on them, especially their princess.

“This system has merit.” Said Myla after the silence had grown after some time, “But you are sorely mistaken if you think I will allow my daughter to undergo what you want from this. Extensive surgeries are one thing, but if I am not mistaken there will need to be some gene therapy. Kaiden is an adult, any gene therapy and manipulation will take considerably longer than they would on a child. And correct me if I’m wrong, but you want this all to occur in six months?”

Edzeeker got a curious look on his face but instead of saying what was on his mind, he only nodded his head and said, “Yes, six months.”

Myla caught Karesh’s eye and continued, “You can take any volunteer you want, but I will not subject my daughter to this.”

Edzeeker had enough sense to not argue and grinned painfully before saying, “I will take whoever volunteers.”

With that, the meeting was ended. Kaiden disappeared before anyone could even turn their attention to her. It had been a technique that Bolx had learnt when he was on Saith, and he had taught it to her in case of an emergency, not to flee responsibility.

“One of your trump cards?” asked Myla.

“One of.” He grinned painfully.

Myla indicated she wanted someone to pass the notes that Edzeeker had brought to her. She was fascinated by the designs, so much so that it made Bolx uncomfortable.

“There is merit in this.” She whispered under her breath.

Karesh had taken Edzeeker from the room to discuss other matters, and soon the rest of those in the meeting had dispersed.

“It may have merit, Your Majesty, but what will the cost be?”

The queen looked at him in annoyance and hissed, “Myla, I’ve told you, you may call me Myla when we aren’t in any meetings.”

“It doesn’t change what I have asked.”

The queen sighed and pages through the notes once more, “A lot of death, General.”

The Saith didn’t correct her. He nodded his head and made his way to where he knew Kaiden would be hiding for a while. It was a balcony that overlooked the back of the palace and a vast forest. It was one of their favourite places to sneak out to when the castle got busy. They were yet to be caught.

Bolx found Kaiden leaning over the balcony watching the forest beyond. She had a frown on her face, but as soon as he joined her, it changed to a scowl. She wasn’t displeased with him coming to find her, just displeased he hadn’t given her the time she needed to cool down. He had never liked her angry outbursts and had learnt long ago to give her the necessary space to cool down before approaching her. She hadn’t had time to calm down yet.

Bolx said nothing. He walked to stand next to her before turning and sliding down the railing to sit and face the castle. He wouldn’t interrupt her musings, but he wasn’t going to give her too much space. He had no idea how long he sat there before Kaiden said, “That creature is lying through his teeth, and he will make this, and other worlds burn.”
