I was listening to the Rolling Stones on a long bus ride. Long trips always invite me to think. And when that invitation opens and I'm listening to music, my thoughts seem to be thematically guided. As if the invitation to think had a title. 

I was listening to the Rolling Stones and this phrase triggered my thoughts 

You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime you'll find
You get what you need

Sometimes we go through life believing whether or not we deserve things. What will we gain after this? Will the reward come after we feel we are going through the punishment? When we put all of ourselves to achieve something and it never comes, when it is also living the life we want but with merit. A promotion at work, a happy coexistence, time for leisure, money for books. In short, I can think of an infinite number of possibilities.

Un ascenso en el trabajo, una convivencia feliz, tiempo para el ocio, dinero para libros. En fin, se me ocurren infinidad de posibilidades.

But sometimes, even though we did everything on the list to win the race, have the time, money or wisdom to tackle something, it doesn't work out. And we face a misunderstood frustration. This unhappiness on the part of the universe, of what we believed, will come if we do the right job, if we hit the missing piece. And yet, sometimes it doesn't happen. When the effort was tremendous and something does not arrive, it hurts. 

Sometimes we just need to trust, not in something. In us. In the creative power. In universal justice, in the space left by some things that 'go away' but others will come.

In the end, even if there is a lot of strength to deny it, even if we deny and do not want something to change, its destiny is only that. To be consumed, to leave something by way of teaching and perhaps to leave a hole filled with pain so that once the wound is healed, something more lush will grow there. Because even if we don't have what we want (or think we want) we will have what we need. A lesson, a time to test. Refined soul the one that shines still in pieces. 

Because when that paycheck comes from the universe, and the universe tells us "you don't get the raise, you get a new co-worker to teach" and you go back to feeling all the punishment and never the reward, that's when maybe, deep down inside you already know it's what you need, even if it's not what you want. Because sometimes we only want on a whim, with pleasure and desire, but it is not what we need, not even close.

Al final, aunque haya mucha fuerza para negarlo, aunque reneguemos y no queramos que algo cambie, su destino solo es ese. Consumirse, dejar algo a modo de enseñanza y quizás dejar un hueco colmado de dolor para que una vez curada la herida, algo más frondoso crezca allí. Porque aunque no tengamos lo que queremos (o creemos querer) tendremos lo que necesitamos. Una lección, un tiempo a prueba. Refinada alma la que brilla aún en pedazos. 

Porque cuando llega esa paga por parte del universo, y éste nos dice “no te toca el aumento, te toca un nuevo compañero de trabajo al que enseñarle” y tú vuelves a sentir todo el castigo y nunca el premio, es cuando quizás, muy dentro tuyo ya sabes que es lo que necesitas, aunque no sea lo que quieres. Porque a veces solo queremos con capricho, con gusto y deseo, pero no es lo que necesitamos, ni cerca.

It seems that what beautifies our mind, makes us shine. That which we think "if only I had such and such" and no, it is always no. The universe is not equal, it is fair. The universe is not egalitarian, it is just. In its justice is the constant work we do to transform everything around us. What we seek, what we pursue, what we attract, is all the work of the path we are on, not only of striving to achieve that increase. To be truly deserving of it, and even to accept it if it does not come, because it should not be for us. 

To dwell in peace, with the tranquility that our reward will come, whatever it may be, and as long as it finds us grateful. There is no need to deny existence itself, only to strive to continue shining on our path, and even to be able to enlighten others.
