Hello my friends,

In case you didnt know, we have a challenge running in the community this week. It's called **"Why do you Educate at Home?**

**The question is why do you educate at home? You do it 100% as an alternative to regular school? You do it partially to overcome your child's needs? You chose it because it fits your family, maybe you saw gaps in school system or simply because you wanted to?**
*No matter your answer, I'm sure you have your reasons. No answer is wrong here.*

#### So let me tell you what homeschooling means for us at the moment and how I see things or literally, how I support my son's development and growthby educating at home.

### In short, this will be my answer.

I homeschool simply because:

1. I am a mother
2. I have a degree in education
3. I love my child
4. I love teaching him new things about the world
5. I have time 
6. I want to give my son a good start in life and education has a lot to do with it
7. There's no one else in this world more "suitable" than me to teach my son. I am his mom after all.
8. To spend time with my kid
9. To suppliment his cognitive needs, because he is a gifted kid and he can do/learn/process much more information than kids his age
10. I just want the best in life for my son, and in this moment, I think he needs me to guide him, to show him the world, to teach him things he'll need later in life, to be there for him, to play together and have fun together. 
11. To cultivate in him love for learning, curiosity, creativity.

### And now How we Homeschool?

#### The truth is **homeschooling** for me personally means all the methods, strategies, resources and time put all together in order to help my child grow into a beatiful open minded human being, in any possible way: socially, emotionally, cognitive, or developing all kind of useful life skills.

### Homeschooling for me is to spend time with Caleb and teach him how to read, cultivate love for books and reading, helping him where he needs, showing him when and how he's wrong, supporting him in the things he wants to achieve, teaching him how to act, how to be kind with others, how to be empathic, how to take care of himself, how to mentain his health, how to be self sufficient, how to be motivated and ambitious or how to be responsable over his acts.

This is what homeschooling means for me now.

Yes, taking out of context, **Homeschooling means to educate your child at home, legally and formally**.

It means your kid doesnt follow school courses and lessons. It means someone is responsable for his education, usually a parent or an outside person, a qualified teacher.

Like in every country  you are responsable to make sure your child benefits education, in one form or another.

**Here In Romania**, Homeshooling is possible, is just that you need to be enrolled to an **Umbrella School**. This is like a bridge between children's education and the law school system.
You need to demonstrate that your kid is following an approved, accredited program. You cant do it as you like. 

*Umbrella schools are online educational institutions, usually from abroad Romania, that facilitate homeschooling by covering the formal aspects required by our legislation.*

For us, the time to decide on homeschooling or school didnt come yet.
We have one more year for that.
However, we skipped kindergarden this year and I will fully take care of my son in terms of education. I will be his teacher. I will get to decide what to learn, how, when and why. 

*Isnt this a form of Homeschooling?* *Does homeschooling always need to be formal?*

....**I feel qualified to meet my child's educational needs**. *Isnt this sufficient?* At least for this age, for now. 
Maybe I feel this way because I studied Education. In real life I could actually teach (but I would never ever see myself into school system, from many reasons). Or maybe I feel I am enough because I've read a lot of books on this topic.🤔
No matter the reason, I now feel that I am enough for my son. **I know what he needs and I am willing to put my time in order to educate him at home**. 
I will have a plan. We'll study one theme/week. Thats the easy part. 
What I really need to look more into, would be what and how to teach my son so he can builds up his emotional skills. I still need to learn how to do this, but I can manage it. 
I dont know if I will follow a grade system. I'm not sure if it's relevant for us at this moment  but I will do some research into this as well. *@romeskie wrote a post about this topic and I found quality info there. I need to look again on her post.* 

I realize its up to me. My son depends on me. If I am organized, the learning process at home goes smoothly.

### And still, if I would chose Homeschooling as an alternative to Public School, these would be my reasons: 


1. To give him freedom to choose what to learn and consider his aptitudes and abilities
2. To be more time together. Time flies too fast and I realized how much time my kid would be gone at school. We'll have too little time together 
3. I kind of "hate" rules and all those infinite regulations, formalities, and organizational matters that school requires. I disagree with many of these aspects and I'm sorry, but I can't just comply. 
4. We travel quite often. I dont want to be limited and depend on only one place where learning happens. 
5. I hate driving every day to school, drop the kid, come home and then do it again. Too much time wasted for everyone. 
6. I dont trust anymore what school offers these days.
7. People, including teachers, are not so quality people, as it was someday. Now everyone is more materialistic, superficial. Kids too. And I prefer to stay away from that. I've heard things and I've seen things, lets just say so.
8. I want my kid to not spend his time everyday writing homeworks or making projects. I want him to learn what he likes. I want him to have time for sport, arts, reading or just having fun with other kids.
9. I dont want my kids hate learning,  books or education in general. I dont want them to corelate the word **learning** (school) with **worries, tiredness, stress, anxiety, difficult**.

Well everyone, this is what I had to say about homeschooling and how I educate at home. 
I hope I made myself clear and I didnt lose it among words or jumped from one idea to another. 

As a conclusion, I educate my son at home because I consider it to be a good option for us these days. Thats it. Thats the reason he'll stay home this year, thats the reason I'm fully involved in his education. 
I am the mother of my child and I'm doing my best to take the best decisions so he do and be good.
