A mansion, elegantly and beautifully built, rose at the edge of a hill. Its stone walls and tall glass windows exuding quiet luxury. Inside the mansion, gold accents, soft lighting and tasteful furnishings spoke of wealth. The home is clearly built with both class and care. 

You want to know who is behind that? Ikenna, who is a man shaped by responsibility and quiet strength. In his late thirties, his tall frame and broad shoulders carried the weight of years  he spent making sure that he provides his sisters with whatever they would ever need in life. Their parents died when he was in his first year in the university, he had to forfeit his education, take over his father's company to make sure that he gives his sisters all that lifes brings. But they seems not to understand his true intentions over them. He had been standing for minutes waiting for Chioma, the eldest amongst his sisters before she arrived.

"Bia Chioma, kedu ebe isi? (Chioma, where are you coming from) Chioma you told me that you were going to your friend's shop to get some clothes, what were you doing at Ngwa Road?" 

Chioma hesistates. Her mouth quivered. She obviously had no answer to the question.

"Oh, now you are dumb right? Chioma you can no longer talk, eh?"

"Brother calm down, please. It's not like I stayed too long."

Ikenna raises his voice a bit, "Is that the answer to my question? I said where are you coming from?" He realizes that they were outside where neighbors could be disturbed. "You know what? Let's go inside. From today, you will not leave this house without my permission."


Ikenna and Chioma moves inside, he ignores her and goes to his room. Chioma goes to her room as well. A knock comes on her door, it was Ijeoma, her younger sister. 


"Chioma, I was hearing brother's voice, but I intentionally refused to come out. I had already received my own portion of the shout before you came back." She laughs and jumps on top of Chioma's bed. 

Chioma smiles and looks away, "Better leave me alone. Why did you not call me when you noticed he was waiting for me at the gate?"


Ijeoma laughe again, "Choima!! You talk as if you don't know our brother again. He can never let you enter this house without telling you how he saw you at Ngwa Road doing what I can only imagine."


"Shut up! What did I do wrong? I only went to see Alfred."


"What? You're lucky he didn't realise it was Alfred that you went to see. He has warned you severally to stay away from him but you would never listen."

Chioma hisses, "Am I a child? Alfred is the one I love. He has no right to tell me whether to be with him or not."

They both laugh at the statement.


Ikenna felt uncomfortable in his room. He was wondering what might have taken his sister to that area knowing fully well that she barely leaves the house. 

"Nna oweghi ihe mna ahota here at all (I don't understand anything at all) Who did Chioma see that took her to Ngwa Road? Alfred is the only person who makes me go there. What made Chioma.... Come wait oh, let me even verify what she went there to do. Chioma!"

In a well organized office, Ikenna is operatinh his system when Alfred walks in. Alfred, a tall and handsome young man in his early thirties. He visits Ikenna all the time. 

"Alfred, you will never knock when coming in to my office. This is my office and not your own."

"What is wrong with this one? My friend shut up! If they call for people that owns an office, Ikenna will come out."

Ikenna laughs, "Of course, I will come out boldly. It is not easy to have such place as an office."

Alfred finds himself a seat. "Exactly my brother."

Ikenna smiles and calls the reception to get some refreshments for his friend. "Yes oh" He remembers yesterday's incident, "It's true oh, Alfred, were you in your shop yesterday?"

Alfred stares at him, "Where else would I be on a serious market day? I was in my shop."


Ikenna nods, "So what did Chioma my sister come to your shop to do?"


Alfred smiles.

"No Alfred, this is not a smiling or laughing matter. I have told you time without number, stay away from my sisters. They are the only people I have in this whole wide world. Let them be."

"Ikenna stop talking this way. Am I a bad person? It's not as if I can't take care of her."

Ikenna shakes his head in disagreement. "You and I know that the only reason you go close to ladies is to flirt with them. And I don't want such person close to my sisters."

Alfred laughs and almost falls from his seat.

"Ikenna stop this thing you are doing oh. I have genuine love for your sister, Chioma."

"Get out! Genuine fire!"

The both of the laughs.


Ikenna gets home that evening to find out that neither Chioma nor Ijeoma is at home. He checks the time and it was already few minutes past 9. 

"Where are these girls? Are they not supposed to be home by this time of the night?"

He picks his phone and starts calling them but none of them were taking their calls. He angrily sits down at the dining waiting for them to return. The both of them returned few hours later.


"Where are the both of you coming from?" He stands up from where he was. His expression explained how angry and disappointed he was.

"Brother I went for..." Ijeoma stammers

"Ijeoma go to your room. Now!"

Ijeoma hurrys immediately to her room.

"Chioma, what is your problem? What on earth are you teaching your sister? What..."


Chioma cuts in, "Brother please stop treating us like babies! You have become a thorn in our flesh. You literally determine every single decision we make. We are old enough now, and we have right to make our own decisions. I am 26 years old. Ijeoma would be 24 in three weeks. We are adults for crying out loud!"


"Chioma I am only looking out for you girls"

"Then stop! Yes just stop! We could look out for ourselves now. Please just stop! About Alfred? I love him, and I want to be with him. Goodnight!" She walks away.


Ikenna stands still for minutes. He couldn't believe all those words came from his sister. Throughout the night, he couldn't stop thinking about what his sister told him. 

He called the both of them in the morning to address the issue. 

"Chiom, Ijeoma, the both of you should listen to what I have to say. I have come to realise that I have been getting it wrong. I have come to realise that I have been over stepping my boundaries. The both of you are adults and you have your life to live. I have been overprotective and that is one thing I did not get right. I am very sorry. Chioma sbout Alfred, I have given you enough advice as your elder brother but you can still go ahead and do as you like. From today, the both of you would be responsible for your actions. Call me when you need me and I will answer. I will establish a business for the both of you, you could live on your own when you've grown your business. That is all for now."


"Thank you, brother." Chioma and Ijeoma replied. 


Few weeks later, Chioma went to Alfred house to see that he was with another lady without knowing that she would come around that day. It was already late in the night, she called her brother several times but he did not take his calls. He ordered a cab and went home.


She came into the house angry. 

"Chioma, what is wrong?"


"I have been calling brother for hours, but he did not take any of them!"


Ijeoma laughs, "Did I not complain to you that brother's attitude towards us has changed? He now focusses on himself and replies whenever he feels there is need for him to reply. We wanted freedom isn't it? Here we are."

"We only asked him to let us live our lives, and not stay away from us entirely."


Ikenna walks in immediately. "Hello girls! What's up!"

Chioma and Ijeoma hisses and went to their rooms.


"Ah, what is wrong this time? Anyway, I have a match to see." He whsitles to his room.


A knock came on his door afterwards. It was Chioma and Ijeoma.

"Brother, we want to talk with you." Chioma says

"How much do you want?"

"We are not hear for money."


"So what do you want? Be fast, I need to be in the gym in 1 hour time."

"Brother, we don't like how you act towards us. Brother I know we might have hurt your feelings. I know we might have not really understood the things you were doing for us, but please, we are still your baby sisters. Don't neglect us this way." 


Ijeoma goes close to him, "Brother you are our father and our mother. You are the only shoulder we could cry on. Please come back to our lives."


Ikenna smiles and hugs them. "It's okay my ladies. I am happy you know better now and I do know better as well. It's okay."


They lived happily again. He did not monitor them like he used to, but he made sure they made decisions that would affect them positively.
