It's one of his core convictions, one of the few things he cares about more than money and vanity.</p>\n<p>Having said that, the USA isn't doing everything it can to depose Maduro. As the article says, an important reason to support the opposition in Venezuela is Florida politics. From a cynical point of view, actually doing something about it would make the Republicans lose their favorite enemy, the living example showing that socialism leads to disaster.</p>\n<p>By the way, you could call Putin, Erdogan and Duterte dictators for the violent way they are governing, but they do have popular support and would probably be elected in free and fair elections, even if they won't take that risk. I'm not a expert in the Venezuelan constitution, but apparently there's an argument to be made that  Juan Guaidó is the legitimate president.
