<liketuimages> <center>    </center> </liketuimages> I have discovered a small number of deer that live behind my house recently, a group that seems to be sitting around and roaming the fields every day regardless of the weather. Deer are something I rarely ever saw in the countryside until this year, and their presence has definitely made me appreciate and care for the fragility of the countryside a lot more. Part of the reason why deer aren't just roaming around so freely is due to the endless soulless housing development that is overreaching into the countryside and ruining their environment, as well as the roaring of cars that comes from more development in the motorway side of things. To have these animals so close to home has me checking up on them frequently now, keeping my distance but curious as to where they go and how they live their lives in what seems like two main fields. While deer are very much aware of humans before the human is aware of them, they often leave the area well in advance and keep their distance from people. Though they're very curious creatures at the same time. I would never get close to these deer in person, as I'd want to keep them in their environment and not going into the surrounding danger; but fortunately I have a DJI Mini 2 that they don't seem to mind. Over the last few weeks I've been flying around them and slowly capturing them in their numbers. Flying overhead and even getting a bit closer; today was the closest I have been with the drone to them. They don't seem to care for the drone, they don't see it as a threat. They just sort of look at it and go about their day. Continuing to graze and roam the fields. Though if they see me in the distance they often get up and move to the next location. I really love how the drone allows me to get this close to nature, getting me not just in view of these beautiful creatures, but almost part of them. I tend to slowly fly around them and find different angles to capture them from as they walk around. Sometimes they compose the shots for me as they just walk into a composition, sometimes playing around and skipping in the fields. I managed to catch one doing just that in one of the photographs. It's probably worth noting that if they ever seem slightly bothered by my presence then I back off and leave them be, packing up my gear and moving on. With spring really starting to pick up suddenly, I'm really looking forward to having more daylight and better lighting conditions to play around with here in the countryside, looking for more natural moments that definitely are quite rare and underappreciated to capture. With all that aforementioned development going on, I think it's important that people realise how much of the landscape *needs* to be left alone for the animals we share the land with to have their own homes too. I wouldn't want to get too close to them, especially making them trust humans and get reliant on whatever I give them. The fact that when they see me they still move to another area and maintain their distance is really good. I did have one really small deer come up to me the other week, it got quite close before realising I wasn't one of them and then ran off. That's about the closest I've been. But believe me, I'd love to feed them and pet them, haha.

I wish we could do something to prevent the destruction of the environments where these animals live. After all, so many technological advances really are quite beneficial, aren't they? I think it's a real opportunity to be able to get so close to wildlife without disturbing them.

I've spent most of my life in the countryside and I'm definitely noticing changes that make me feel a bit sad. More and more houses now occupy land that was once green. There's more noise and light pollution. But something far worse I'm noticing is that the open fields, far from roads, are suddenly becoming more littered. Even the ones I took these photographs in. Sometimes I pick it up and take it back home if it's plastic to recycle it. But a lot of it is so deep in the woodland, likely pushed deeper in by the wind storms we get. A lot of these problems are also down to the fact that the nation is pushed more into renting, as older homeowners die off in these areas and renters replace them. There's not much sense of community as a result as people come and go without really caring for the locations they're moving to and from. Unfortunately I doubt anything can be done about it. It'd be screaming into the void as England pushes more into Americanisation, as villages become towns and towns become cities. Probably not the only country experiencing this either. But the older I get, the more I want to escape it all and live in simplicity. Surrounded by green and life.
