Good evening, a little late due to a high volume of work I find myself writing this publication. There are many songs that we enjoy, but in many of them the interpreters are not the original ones, there are many examples, in this opportunity I present three songs interpreted by the original groups or singers.

**1.- Black Magic Woman**.

The first Fleetwood Mac were born in 1967, and their direct influence was the English school of electric blues that included such talents as Alexis Korner, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, and The Yardbirds.  John McVie (bassist), Mick Fleetwood (drummer) and Peter Green (guitarist) wanted to form a band, so John Mayall gave Peter Green (guitarist) a few hours in a recording studio. They all participated in Mayall's musical projects. It stands out the fact that Peter Green replaced Eric Clapton in Mayall's musical project called Bluesbrakers.

The group debuted at the Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival in 1967, with guitarist Jeremy Spencer joining them, performing blues classics and original songs by Peter Green.

In 1968 they released an album entitled Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, with relative success, in the same year, they released their second album called Mr. Wonderful, joining guitarist Danny Kirwan in live concerts.

On tours in the United States they opened for Jethro Tull and Joe Cocker.

In 1968 the band released the single Black Magic Woman, a composition written by Peter Green, which later appeared on the 1969 compilation albums English Rose (USA) and The Pious Bird of Good Omen (UK). However, Carlos Santana turns it into a classic with Gregg Rolie's voice in 1970, when he includes it in his album Abraxas.

Black Magic Woman, is the story of a man in love with a woman famous for mastering the dark arts. The song is a bluesy, inventive guitar sound courtesy of Peter Green.

**2.- Torn**.

In 1993 two young Australians, Scott Cutler and Anne Preven wrote the song Torn. The music was almost entirely by Phil Thornalley, who would become producer, meet Natalie Imbruglia and offer her to sing 'Torn' for his first album, Left of the Middle in 1997.

But before Natalie Imbruglia sang and popularized the song worldwide, in 1995, Anne Preven and Scott Cutler founded a band named Ednaswap doing a rock version of the song. However, they were not the first to sing the song, because a Danish pop artist named Lis Sørensen, in 1993, renamed the song Brændt (Burnt) and published it in her country.

This is a song that talks about a love that has been degraded, about a mistake of a woman who with the passing of time realizes that she chose the wrong man and that she will have to deal with the consequences of this and that her illusions with him will not materialize. Her choice of life partner was made on the basis of her feelings, and not on the basis of her brain, which resulted in her feeling hurt and wounded. This is what I understand from the English version of the theme and I hope that the Danish translation is as faithful as possible.



**3.- Proud Mary**.

Creedence Clearwater Revival was created in 1958, however its first name was The Blue Velvets. Its initial members were: John Fogerty, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook.  John's older brother, Tom Fogerty, got them some gigs and helped them make some studio recordings. In 1964, the band signed a contract with Fantasy Records in San Francisco where they were renamed The Golliwogs.  Stu Cook was the bassist, while Tom Fogerty became the lead guitarist, John Fogerty became the lead vocalist and sometimes composer, and Doug Clifford was the band's drummer. The band innovated by mixing blues, country and even pop, achieving an attractive and particular musical style. This group recorded several singles between 1964 and 1967.

In 1968 they renamed the group as Credence Clearwater Revival, being this same name used by the band to launch their main album. This name was chosen by the members of the group in memory of a friend of John's named Creedence and Clearwater a brand of beer; being this complemented with the word Revival (renewal, resurgence).

This album contains songs like I Put A Spell On You and Susie Q. For 1969 John Fogerty deployed all his capacity as a composer to place his group in the summits of the world rock.

In 1969 they released the album Bayou Country and their single Proud Mary was soon at the top of the American and British charts that year, mixing rock, country, blues, and even gospel.

There are many versions of this song, but the best known was Tina & Ike Turner, even today many people believe that this duo are the original interpreters of a song that was even covered by Elvis Presley.

Proud Mary is one of the mythical rock songs. Written by John Fogerty. Its story refers to the Mary Elizabeth, a steamboat with large paddlewheels destined to sail from New Orleans up and down the Mississippi. The song is named Proud Mary in honor of the ship that transports the protagonist from the city in search of employment.
