A Critical Look Into the Acclaimed Seven (7) Biggest Brain Damaging Habits
Three days ago, a friend of mine who is old enough to be my father shared a message with me via one of my social media handling, the content of the message read **7 Biggest brain damages habits** with sub titled **Brain Stroke**.

How true is the content and can the content be traced to the affiliated World Health Organization (WHO) became the questions of the day.

**The Acclaimed Seven (7) Biggest Brain Damaging Habits**

1. Missing breakfast
2. Sleeping late
3. High sugar consumption
4. More sleeping specifically at morning
5. Eating meal while watching TV or computer
6. Wearing Cap/scarf or socks while sleeping
7. Habit of stopping/Blocking Urine

**My further investigation about the stated points:**

- Missing breakfast

No doubt, many medical practitioners and health related researchers have ranked breakfast as the most important food one should not miss due to its level of its importance and rampant delay in taking it may results to ulcer. Thus, this may be linked to the fact that early morning food called 'breakfast' is the first food to fill one's stomach after one must have slept overnight spending between eight (8) and ten (10) hours without taking any food.

**Breakfast as a means to boosts brainpower**

No doubt, having breakfast can serve as a means to improve one's mental state of mind resulting in better performance and concentration, it is easy to confirm this when you go on fasting or on diet, signs of sluggish and lack of focus usually set in due to the unavailability of energy to keep up with the task.

**Breakfast and damages to the brain**

Missing breakfast may not be linked among part of the factors that can cause any of the two types of brain damages: Traumatic Brain Damages is usually involves a slight shift of brain to the skull due to either an accident or an external force such as blow through the head while non-traumatic brain damage may be linked to neurological illness such as stroke or constrain on the brain from a tumor.

- Sleeping late

In one of my posts titled Science behind sleeping with light off, I stated the importance of having sound sleep, among them is that it repairs both body system and human brain functioning, however, sleeping late may not be linked as part of what may cause brain damages because one may sleep late and wake early and still have sound sleep. It is just a matter of sleeping interval and not the sleeping time.

- High sugar consumption

![white-5040151_960_720.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/noble-noah/23tc5osjSGLQEt1FTeMKBjDHQAcwE3mowrV3YZqYeMor2asDpifjvKRdQM4nSo6xt4anL.jpg)

A research article published in a Behavioural Brain Research, where the authors put some rats to test, they were subjected to high content in sugar and fat between 1 week and two weeks, the result of their study shows impair hippocampal-dependent place such as future thinking, autobiographical memory, and spatial navigation, however, nothing could be traced to perirhinal-dependent object, recognition memory. They therefore concluded that liquid sugar can speedily raise markers of central and peripheral inflammation.

A related research work also agreed with the above that high level of sugar content impairs not only cognitive skills but also self-control skills. This seems to be close but further study may be needed to buttress the argument, as none of the related research has specifically declared a damage to the brain due to high level of sugar consumption.

- More sleeping specifically at morning

While I may not be aware of any research that investigate if the brain is able to recognize any specific part of the day, says morning or afternoon or night let alone an investigation that deeps down to check the effect of sleeping more on any of the specific time of the day, I therefore could not link the stated point with brain damages.

- Eating meal while watching TV or computer

Personally, I don't like this habit and I always warn people to desist from doing so because of the unexpected which may arise from doing the two concurrently, For instance, while enjoying TV, one may not know when he will coincidentally put the food on his nose, yet I do not believe this may lead to brain damages unless further evidence is tender to buttress the argument.

- Wearing Cap/scarf or socks while sleeping

I could not relate or link this point with brain damages at all, how does covering yourself with cloth such as cap, scarf or socks has anything to do with brain damages.

- Habit of stopping/Blocking Urine

Bladder stretching, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), kidney stones, infection, kidney damage, and damage pelvic floor muscles have all being linked to the perpetual habit of holding urine but never aware of its effect on brain. Further evidence may still be needed to convince further.

**Final thought!**

Human brain is undoubtedly the most important part of human body, the largest organ in the body and the main controller of all the activities that take place in our daily routine. As such, anything related to brain functioning should be given much attention, however, having glanced through the content of the message, may be I could not have paid much attention to it, because I could not relate any strong connection between the stated seven (7) habits and the brain damages, however, the reputation of the affiliated World Health Organization (WHO) with their logo being captured on the footnote changed my perception.

**Noted:** In this article, I only expressed my view as regards to the stated points in parallel correlation with brain damages, further argument with evidence to prove authenticity of both the contents and the affiliated organization (World Health Organization) will be appreciated.

**I must appreciate your kind gesture, both your time and resources spent on following me up for the past four years on Hive blockchain technology.**

**Thank you so much! I appreciate**

@noble-noah interesting share from your friend.
Being someone who has experienced a series of minor strokes personally, I have a lot of time spend with neurologists and research materials on the topic. I can tell you that some of what he shares has merit. However, some iI am sorry to say is just wrong, and in fact, if followed by someone who might be at risk for stroke could make it more likely. Example, the sleep advice. Sometimes sleep is what is required. Especially AFTER a stroke. I nap a great deal now. It is essential for the brain and body to heal.

Hmm, glad to hear from you always.

Can you imagine! During the write-up. I thought of how the piece might be of help to you not knowing you already have a library on the topic.

Wish you save recovery!

I wouldn't say a library, just what the doctors share with me and what I find from reputable sources (Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, etc.) on the web.
