El monumento del Perro Nevado es uno de los pocos espacios en Venezuela que rinde homenaje especial a la mascota Martir de Simón Bolivar un perro de raza Muchchies que estos habitan en los paramos merideños, este perro fue un regalo de un hacendado al libertador Bolivar en Junio de 1813, este monumento se encuentra ubicado en el estado Mérida  justamente subiendo el páramo específicamente antes de Mucuchíes, es una vía bastante transitada por los turistas, donde puedes ver una panorámica de distintas formas de la inmensidad de las montañas.

El perro nevado fue la mascota más amada de después de su caballo blanco Palomo ya que este canino le acompañaba en cada una de las batallas que él se encontraba realizando por el territorio venezolano, este monumento busca rendir un homenaje especial a a la vida que tuvo este perro mucuchíes que fue un gran compañero de batalla para Bolívar, nevado perdió la vida en la batalla de carabobo, defendiendo al libertador Bolívar, uno de los valores que nos expresa este monumento es la nobleza y lo incondicional que son los perros con los humanos, este tuvo estos dos valores primordiales con Simón Bolivar.

Este momumento se basa en un panegírico que esta fabricado en piedra de marmol, ubicado en la carretera trasandina  que nos lleva a diversos páramos, este sector lleva por nombre Moconoque, lugar donde estuvo la hacienda la hacienda de Don Vicente Pino, quien historicamente fue quien rego a Nevado a Simón Bolivar cabe destacar que esto fue un pedido especial que le dijo su hijo luego de luchar y llevar acabo la Batalla de Niquitao, puesto que esta mascosta se encariño muy especialmente con Simón Bolivar.

Nevado tenía este nombre justamente porque era habitante de los Andes venezolanos el indio Tinjaca era quien cuidaba esta mascota, cabe destacar que el también murió en esta batalla de Carabobo, puesto que intento salvar a Nevado, pero no se logro el objetivo puesto que ambos perdieron la vida, nevado muere porque le atravesaron una lanza y esto le causo automáticamente su muerte.

Por último en este monumento podemos evidenciar en las esculturas a Bolivar junto con su amigo incondicional Nevado al lado, cabe destacar que cuando Nevado falleció Bolivar experimento uno de los dolores mas grande de su vida, luego del que sintió por su esposa María del Toro, es hermoso este lugar por completo no debes dejar de visitarlo si te encuentras recorriendo el estado Mérida.
