David and Sam have been friends since childhood; they are friends turned brothers since both of them are the only children their parents ever had, and everyone needs a sibling, so they decided to be that sibling for each other, looked out for each other, took care of each other, and made sure they were there for each other through the ups and downs. Only those who knew them closely knew they were not related by blood. They did everything together, attended the same high school and the same college, and throughout high school and college, they lived in the same room as roommates, so they bonded really well and have very little or even nothing to quarrel about, as they both understand each other.

They have just finished college and got a job, though in different firms but not too far from each other, so they still get to eat lunch together and plan their lives together. They both were like a coach to each other; whoever has a good suggestion brings it up, and they ponder on it and then draw to a conclusion.

"I heard of a company that is in need of investors; they promise to give investors 100 percent annual returns after investing." David said at their usual lunch spot.

"How sure are you it's not a way to lure investors, and then they end up crashing?" Sam asked

"We just got out of college and are trying to get our lives together. Don't you think this is an opportunity?" David asked, "Even if it is a scam, they will definitely pay early birds before they crash; that is how even Ponzi schemes work." David added as he sips his coffee. 

"Bro, I am scared; the money I have right now is my life savings, and I really would not like to risk it on something that is not sure." Sam said as he stretched his hand towards the ketchup at far end of the table.

"Imagine it works out; we will not need to work so hard anymore to get our lives together; it will serve as a boost to help us achieve our goals way faster." David said trying to get Sam to agree to go all in on the investment with him.

"I watched a finance professor talk once on TV, and he advised to always diversify your portfolio and to never go all in on a stock or investment; what you are asking of me is way too much." Sam said 

"Sleep on it; you won't regret it." David responded as he use a towel to wipe off food crumbs from his lips. 

Sam went home and had a sleepless night because of the conversation he had with his closest friend earlier that day. He knew his friend's mind was already made up and all he needed was his approval and support to do it together, just like it has always been since time immemorial. "What if I don't do this and it works out well for those who did it? David will have my head on a spike." Sam thought to himself as he left the bed for the balcony. 

"Let's do this; let's go all in." Sam said in a text he sent to David 

A few days later they went all in, investing in the company after doing a little research on the company, but their research was not deep enough, so they missed out on some things. The owners of the company actually needed investors so they could pay off the loan shark they owed, with the hope that they could get enough investors so after paying off the loan shark, they would have something left to keep the company running, but unfortunately, only Sam, David, and a few others took the bait, and all the company owners got was just enough to pay off their debts to the loan shark and were not able to get the company back up and running, and that caused all their investors to lose their money and be left with only promises that one day they will get their money back.

"I told you we should have diversified our investments and not gone all in on a certain offer that sounded too real to be true." Sam said, nodding his head with teary eyes, all he needed was just a little push to let it all out, but since they were at their lunch spot and in public, he tried to hold the tears back. "We were so blinded by the profits, thinking it would serve as a boost to get our lives together; now we don't even have anything left." Sam added as he rubbed his eyes with his palm.

David sighed. "Hindsight is kind of a 50/50 thing. At a point I thought we had a sure thing and it was going to change our lives for good, but I missed that one thing, and we are here today." David said

"I wish we had done better research; we would have seen the warnings and how bad of an investment this was." Sam said with a shaky voice.

"All I wish for right now is a time machine to go back in time and stop myself from ever talking about this investment." David said 

"Don't blame yourself; at least now we have learned the hard way not to put all our eggs in one basket." Sam said as he faked a smile to cheer David up.

"You are right, we might not be able to change the past, but we can use lessons from the past to make better choices in the future."  Sam said as he raised his cup of coffee. 

"Here's to better foresight on our next venture." David said as he did the same and they both burst into laughter.
