Possible Health Issues Linked to Leg Wrist Pain.

Hello friends, it's always a great honor to share whatever I learn with you, and reading the amazing content produced by intelligent individuals in this community makes my heart leap for joy. Recently, I have been experiencing pain in the wrist region of my leg, it started a few days ago and although it was minor, I am starting to get bothered as the pain does not seem to be going away, it even gets intense sometimes.

I decided to do my own research on what could be causing such pain, and I think it's good that I share my gathered knowledge with you, as it may help someone who needs to know about it. Understandably, I am no medical expert, so everything I will be putting out here will be based solely on research published by medical experts. That being said, let's get straight into understanding leg pain and everything that surrounds it.

So many people who have experienced an injury before particularly in the leg, usually complain about leg pain, but the situation may differ as leg injury be also be a result of, a medical condition or inflammation of the surrounding structures of the leg. It is also possible that pains felt from other parts of the body, will begin to manifest in the leg;

* Pains associated with lower back ailments, for instance, may create numbness and pains in the leg.

* Abdominal aorta, as well as iliac artery aneurysms, can also cause leg pain.

* The occurrence of blood clots in the large veins and arteries in the pelvis, legs, and abdomen could as well create possible leg symptoms.

* Other forms of existing diseases such as diabetes could lead to damage of the artery or the nerve which would, in turn, lead to serious pain in the foot and leg. 


The leg has two categories of blood vessels; 

**The arterial system** which is responsible for delivering oxygen-rich blood from the heart, the aorta moves from the heart into the abdomen and then divides into the iliac arteries, which splits further into the femoral arteries at the groin level, this femoral artery then runs along the back of the femur in the thigh behind the knee, at this point, the aorta begins to branch into the existing small and smaller arteries supplying the feet, the lower leg and even the toes with blood.


**The venous system** functions by draining blood from the leg and moving it into the heart, giving room for tissues like the muscle to remove carbon dioxide and other waste products of metabolism. The leg has two sets of veins, the deep venous system and the superficial one.
The superficial system runs along the skin while the deep venous system is located in the deep region of the muscles alongside the bone, blood drains from the superficial system into the deep system that connects veins known as *perforators*, these *perforators prevent every form of the blood clot that occurs int he superficial veins from getting into the deep vein system and embolizing it, it also prevents blood clots from getting into the lungs and the heart. Both the superficial and deep systems combine in the groin to form a femoral vein. 

Nerves existing in the spinal cord, supply information to the leg, making the transmission of signals from the brain give room for purposeful movement, they also function by returning sensations and information like that of touch and pain to the brain. Nerve impulses can flow from the legs into the spinal cord and then flow back into the legs without even getting to the brain, the nerve loop creates allows experts to test for the presence of deep tendon reflexes in order to access the functional ability of the spinal cord. 

Now, that we understand a little bit about the inner structure/function of the leg, it is important for us to know that illness and injury have the ability to disrupt the functional ability of these structures, leading to discomfort, inflammation, and pain. For instance;

* Someone who develops an uncontrollable diabetic condition, may develop diabetic neuropathy which makes it possible for the nerves found in the feet and the legs to begin to malfunction, when this happens, there would be symptoms that signify pain and the loss of sensation in the feet. 
When blood does not flow rightly into some regions of the feet, it could cause exercise-induced pain which would make the muscle begin to ache at every move of activity, the pain often relieves with adequate rest.

* When a muscle is injured, the pain will also be felt and this is due to swelling and inflammation. However, muscle balance around the joint may also be affected, and a persistent imbalance, could make the joint hurt as a result of the chronic stress placed on it.

* Those with back issues from arthritis may develop pain from the sciatica radiating down the leg. 

Let's delve into some more practical reasons why one could experience leg pain.

### <center>The possible causes of pain.</center>

**Trauma**: This is the most common reason why people have leg pain, direct blow to the leg, a fall or near fall experience, a twist to the leg or other forms of injuries that can damage the muscles, bones, and joints of the leg. The occurrence of sciatic pain comes in this form; it begins in the back and spreads to the buttocks region as well as the front or the back of the thigh, it then moves potentially down to the leg and the foot.

**Fracture**: When a fracture occurs, either it is a crack or a break in the bone, it all means that the reliability of the bone is not so sure at that point, the most common symptom of a fracture is pain. 

**Stress fractures** This could be as a result of consistent small trauma's affecting a specific area in the body. 

**Shin Splints**: Consistent pressure to the region where the pain is felt can result in complete damage to the bone.

**Carpel tunnel syndrome**: This condition develops when the ligament thickens and pressure is applied to the nerve, this pressure applied could lead to numbness, weakness, and pain. Those with some of these underlying conditions fall victim to the condition more; diabetes, arthritis, and obesity stand a greater chance of developing carpel tunnel syndrome. 

**Osteoarthritis**: This is a joint inflammation that causes the existing cartilage between the joints and the bones to wear out. Most common among aged adults are those with a family history of osteoarthritis. 

**Compartment Syndrome**: This is a medical emergency describing the presence of excessive swelling within the affected section of the leg. When this happens, a surgical emergency is needed to open up the compartment and then relieve the pressure within, this way, the blood supply would be restored and permanent disability would be avoided. 

### <center>Conclusion.</center>

I choose to be fair with myself, so I will say the pain I am feeling is just due to stress, but once the pain persists beyond five days (which I hope doesn't happen), then I may have to visit the hospital. Wrist pain could appear minor but could have serious underlying medical issues attached, it is best to always seek medical help as soon as possible.

Been experiencing some numbness (but no pain) in that area of my leg and foot as well! I do tend to have increased inflammation so maybe that's the cause.

It's a good thing it's not coming with any pain but I think it is best to seek medical help once it exceeds a few days, especially if after changing your sitting position and exercising, nothing still changes.
