Saludos a todos los #Lunuxeros y a los miembros de la comunidad de #Linux&SoftwareLibre en #Hive, el día de hoy quiero comentarles como pude recuperar el uso de un equipo antiguo, específicamente una mini laptop Acer Aspire One del año 2008, que vino originalmente con un procesador Anton de 1.600 GHz, una memoria RAM de 1 GB y con el sistema operativo Windows 7.

Yo a esta máquina, le puse en el 2010 una RAM de 1,5 GB y del resto no se le ha hecho ninguna remodelación, ni adaptación. La tuve funcionando con #Linux Mint, hasta hace un par de años, cuando Linux Mint, dejó de sacar sistemas operativos para 32 Bits.


Sin embargo; se me presentó una situación donde tuve que salir de casa por un fin de semana y necesitaba una máquina para mantenerme conectado, ya que mi teléfono, no tiene la suficiente capacidad, para realizar las actividades que hago comúnmente, ni las actividades que realizo en la red #Hive. 

Así que empecé a buscar opciones y una de las que más me llamó la atención, fue la de un sistema operativo llamado ‘‘Locos Linux’’ que fue diseñado según su creador para revivir equipos viejos y darles un mínimo de utilidad. Y efectivamente lo instalé, pero después de que lo hice, tuve algunos inconvenientes, y cuando entré a la comunidad de Telegram del proyecto a preguntar las dudas, no tuve respuesta, aunque había gente conversando, sobre otros temas de #Linux y no del sistema operativo, después intenté instalar la versión de ‘‘Locos Linux’’ con escritorio KDE creado por una linuxera española llamada Karla y pasó lo mismo.



Es decir, el sistema operativo cargaba bien, pero me daba algunos defectos, entre ellos, no me reconocía los puertos y el sonido. Había escuchado en uno de los videos de YouTube, que esta situación se le había presentado a varias personas y recomendaban ir al canal de Telegram, así que fui a ambos canales de Telegram, el de Locos y el de Karla’s Project, escribí y nunca tuve respuesta.

Así que decidí buscar otra alternativa, y buscando opciones de #Linux para máquinas de 32 Bits, me conseguí que Debian 12, el más actualizado y con soporte, tenía una versión para 32 bits, así que lo instalé, con un escritorio XFCE y la máquina funciona bien y pude trabajar con ella aún con su 1,5 de memoria RAM. De hecho, la máquina arranca después de cargar el sistema operativo con el uso de tan solo 348 megabytes, de RAM, dejando más de un 1GB libre para su uso.

Lo que sí hice, de entrada, fue cambiar el navegador, quite el Firefox, ya que consumía mucha memoria y coloque el navegador Chromium, que consume mucha menos memoria que el Firefox. 

Una vez que cambie el navegador, pude trabajar con tres pestañas del navegador abiertas, el programa LibreOffice, el Gestor de Tareas, La terminal abierta montando un programa y utilizando la captura de pantalla, con el uso de solo el 65% de la memoria RAM.

Ahora, puedo decir, que gracias a #Linux, y al sistema operativo Debian 12 de 32 Bits,  pude recuperar una máquina que tenía en el abandono desde hace un par de años, y le pude dar uso. 

Si es cierto, que no es una máquina para jugar, cierto tipo de juegos, por sus obvias limitaciones, también es cierto que desde la máquina, puedes escribir, publicar en plataformas, jugar juegos como #BigDogBone #RisingStar #CityFram, entre otros de la plataforma de #Hive.

De igual modo, puedes ver videos de YouTube, editar fotos con Gimp, entre otras actividades, e inclusive puedes utilizar el Skype, para comunicarte con otras personas, y si es cierto no lo he hecho con Debian aún, si lo hice anteriormente con Linux Mint en esta mini laptop.

Finalmente, ya sabes que si tienes una máquina antigua de 32 Bits, ya sea una PC, una Laptop o una Mini Laptop, puedes darle vida y utilidad a través de un sistema operativo de #Linux.

Greetings to all the #Lunuxeros and the members of the #Linux&SoftwareLibre community in #Hive, today I want to tell you how I was able to recover the use of an old computer, specifically an Acer Aspire One mini laptop from 2008, which originally came with a 1,600 GHz Anton processor, a 1 GB RAM and with the Windows 7 operating system.

I put a 1.5 GB RAM on this machine in 2010 and the rest has not been remodeled or adapted. I had it running with #Linux Mint, until a couple of years ago, when Linux Mint, stopped releasing operating systems for 32-bit.


However, a situation came up where I had to leave home for a weekend and I needed a machine to stay connected, since my phone does not have enough capacity to perform the activities that I commonly do, nor the activities that I perform on the #Hive network. 

So I started looking for options and one of the ones that caught my attention the most was an operating system called ‘Locos Linux’ that was designed according to its creator to revive old computers and give them a minimum of utility. And indeed I installed it, but after I did, I had some inconveniences, and when I entered the Telegram community of the project to ask the doubts, I had no answer, although there were people talking, about other topics of #Linux and not the operating system, then I tried to install the version of ‘Locos Linux’ with KDE desktop created by a Spanish linuxera named Karla and the same thing happened.



That is, the operating system loaded fine, but it gave me some defects, among them, it did not recognize the ports and the sound. I had heard in one of the YouTube videos, that this situation had been presented to several people and they recommended going to the Telegram channel, so I went to both Telegram channels, the Crazy one and the Karla's Project one, I wrote and never had a response.

So I decided to look for another alternative, and looking for Linux options for 32-bit machines, I got that Debian 12, the most updated and supported, had a 32-bit version, so I installed it, with an XFCE desktop and the machine works fine and I could work with it even with its 1.5 of RAM. In fact, the machine boots up after loading the operating system with the use of only 348 megabytes of RAM, leaving more than 1GB free for use.

What I did do, first of all, was change the browser, remove the Firefox, since it consumed a lot of memory and place the Chromium browser, which consumes much less memory than Firefox. 

Once I changed the browser, I was able to work with three browser tabs open, the LibreOffice program, the Task Manager, the terminal open by mounting a program and using the screenshot, with the use of only 65% of the RAM.

Now, I can say, that thanks to #Linux, and the Debian 12 32-bit operating system, I was able to recover a machine that I had in the abandonment for a couple of years, and I could give it use. 

If it is true that it is not a machine for playing certain types of games, due to its obvious limitations, it is also true that from the machine, you can write, publish on platforms, play games like #BigDogBone #RisingStar #CityFram, among others from the #Hive platform.

Similarly, you can watch YouTube videos, edit photos with Gimp, among other activities, and you can even use Skype, to communicate with other people, and if it's true I haven't done it with Debian yet, if I did it previously with Linux Mint on this mini laptop.

Finally, you already know that if you have an old 32-bit machine, whether it's a PC, a Laptop or a Mini Laptop, you can give it life and utility through a Linux operating system.
