When You Should Start Worrying About Depression

Do not mistake feeling sad to feeling depressed. We all feel sad and it is just part of life but when it persists, giving this inability to get pleasure out of anything, feeling tired and having problem sleeping, then you might be on your way to being depressed and millions of people suffer from this disorder yearly with less than 40% of people seeking professional help and this is because a lot of people just ignore the signs or do not know the signs all together. Here are the signs of depression that one should look out for.

The first sign I will mention might not look like a sign of depression since it is demanding privacy but asking to be alone very often than normal is a sign that a person is falling into depression. When people do not want to leave their bed or their rooms for days then it is a sign to be worried as they might be battling depression and not know. Surprisingly, a lot of depression signs come one after the other and when people are just keeping to themselves too much with no sign of coming out of their self made trap, it can lead to Anhedonia.

This is when a person is not able to feel pleasure from the normal things of life which could be fun to them in the past. Just as I mentioned at the beginning, the signs can be overlooked as something that happens regularly but when it becomes a regular thing, then professional help is needed to assist them out of the stage they are in. When they stop doing things that make them happy in the past without finding something else they can refer to as fun, then it calls for being worried.

Whatever, what for, what's the point are words that can be said once in a while but when people start to mention them very often, then it is a sign of hopelessness and triggers depression. Hopelessness, guilt, and self hate are tools that send people to the rabbit hole called depression. When they begin to experience this, they also begin to feel fatigue and they start to have less sleep as they think of everything bad about themselves.

People who are depressed can also have change in appetite but while this cannot be singled out as the only cause, we need to understand that change in appetite leading to increase or decrease in weight along with the numbers of signs I have mentioned above is a red flag and should be looked into. People who are depressed could also deal with emotional eating where they eat to fill the void in their life. A professional should be contacted if one notices these things.

One sign I do not advice people to take for granted is the thought of hurting oneself. Self-hurt is a dangerous thing and these people can deal with temper. Having to deal with too many things including temper and anxiety as well as the host of things I listed in the post can be a sign of depression and it can be followed by thoughts of self hurt. When this happens, seeking professional help is the best way to save a life.
